Originally in Yiddish, a song about being sent to a gulag. He sings about his love waiting for him to return. That knowledge sustains him and he does return in the end. Very moving. His interpretation is way beyond his years. He went on to win.
I am not sure it is originally in Yiddish. It is the poem (in Russian) by Konstantin Simonov "Wait for me and I will come back" written in 1941 when the war with Germany began, and it is a plea from the soldier to his betrothed to wait for him to return home. The lyrics was translated to Hebrew by Avraham Shalonsky and music was composed by Shlomo Drori during his service in the Jewish Brigade in Italy. But I cannot say it is 100%
