I am an Odia SC and we have least caste discrimination in Southern India, even the servitors in lord Jagannath's temple are what would in today's terms be dalits. Varna is different from Caste, varna is based on occupation not inheritance, don't try to mould the public by sharing the British methods of divide and rule( the caste system was not that strictly followed, but the British also manipulated it and gave titles to people based on work), that means my ancestors may have been brahmins or kshatriya during some time in history. You are learned swamiji, but you yourself read the fake Max mueller translations of Rig Veda and Manusmriti, even Manusmriti can be regarded as a cultural book, not a Hindu book. Thank God, Odias are liberal and not like Biharis or Tamils, atleast they are not much in favor of Inter-caste marriages, but still it happens widely in Odisha( we don't kill others for love marriages neither drop caste surnames to fake it outside). For instance, I have married a brahmin girl and we have done the yagyopavit ceremony of our 2 sons as is customary for every Hindu, we will raise them as brahmins in gurukuls( as someone who can guide others in the name of religion). If Jagannath himself doesn't see discrimination between different castes, then how can you? Even, adiguru Shankaracharyaji would have been ashamed of this. The question for others is that, if Different castes are essential for the smooth functioning of society and should not be interbred, then how do you explain Gotra system? You might know, that even in same Gotra, you have different castes, ranging from brahmins to shudras too, but they all had a common ancestor. Actually in the olden days, it was common to marry with other castes but with different gotra since it signified common origins, but with time, this system shifted with more focus to castes, more because of certain brahmins and Kshatriya families.

I agree with Guruji that caste system ensured safety and employment in the society. If a son of doctor becomes a doctor than he will never remain unemployed throughout his life and so is every other caste. Earlier we used to learn our occupation from our family. But modern time has changed, so old caste system is no more prevalent. Anybody can switch to occupation of their own choice. A son of carpentar can become a doctor with proper education. Therefore, there is no problem if he marry another doctor girl who may be the daughter of lawyer. Hence inter-caste yet same profession marriage is good. For example- its best that a lawyer marry a lawyer or a lawyers son chose law as his profession. That will ensure financial security.

I have great respect for Shankaracharya ji for his erudition and knowledge, but in this respect he has shown extreme narrow mindedness. One basic thing we need to understand is that religion was made for humans not the other way round so religions too have to evolve with time else they will become redundant Unless this is accomplished there will always be a friction between the life that science allows us and what religion dictates.
