Somnath “Somesvara” temple is located in Prabhas Patan on coastline of Saurashtra. In Vana Parva of Mahabharat there is a mention of a pilgrim site (Tirtha) in Prabhasa Pattana. In Shiv Purana the 1st Jyotirlinga is mentioned as Prabhasa Pattana. But Ruchika wants to refer only Farsi sources and Romila Thapars research thesis.

I hope he one days talks at length to Meenakshi Jain, author of books like Parallel Pathways, The Battle for Rama and The Flight of the Deities. She is a careful and rigorous historian who critiques the JNU school of Marxist historiography and the Aligarh school, there is much to learn from a similar interaction with her. She mentions Irfan Habib and Romila Thapar as the shadow authors of the (dubiously) iconic "Historians Letter to the nation" document released in the media in the late 80s. It was full of lies and half truths and poisoned the discourse further. Having Ruchika and Meenakshi Jain Ji together moderated by Saurabh would be a dream episode.

There are so many instances of contradiction in her testimony. Why would she visit Iran to find out about Timur, which suffered a similar fate as India in the past with his attacks. Timur’s major monuments are in Uzbekistan and not in Iran. She conveniently refuses to address the description of Somnath temple in Sanskrit sources where it appears with a different name “Prabhasa Patan”. She assumes that Akbar didn’t know what was inscribed on the pillar because it was some British guy who later deciphered it. How can she jump to this conclusion? As the sources are silent, there is also a possibility that someone during Akbar’s reign translated Brahmi for him to understand the inscriptions on the pillar. These and many other instances clearly show that enthusiasm to discover something in new generation scholars of History doesn’t translate into experience which actually generates expertise to understand history through various lenses. As a matter of fact most of the modern Indian historians specially from the JNU Gharana, consistently and conveniently are reluctant to dig deeper into folklore traditions which have remained a key for transfer of knowledge in successive generations. Such reluctance in a country which is known for its oral tradition of preservation of history, is deeply concerning.

Timur is a national hero in Uzbekistan. Samarkand is in Uzbekistan, not in Iran, though the region is a part of erstwhile Persia. Timurs most famous monuments are probably in present day Uzbekistan. Crusaders came from all over Europe. Not just Spain and Italy. They came from eastern Europe, Germany, france and from the British isles. The knights came in huge numbers. And Richard the lion heart, who fought the third crusade was the king of England.

Don't tell spicy stories please deliver History as it is mam. And also don't tell people like... "that would have been happened" Rather quote actual facts so that people will know it clearly. And I would suggest that bring experts who have properly read and decoded these inscriptions and archaeologists and not Historians. And finally GET WELL SOON LALLANTOP.

Historians usually are divided in to 3:- 1) Ancient 2) Medieval 3) Modern And Ms. Ruchika is a Medieval historian with some knowledge or info overlapping at both ends (start of medieval period & end of medieval period).

Then where did Emperor Ashok use 'Kharosthi' script? As I can remember, historians found stone pillar near Bhopal with inscriptions on Emperor Ashoka, where 'Kharosthi' script was used. It is said that kharosthi script was very complex script, in use during ancient India, though it was script would only use for writing, not as spoken language. This episode, I feel very educative and interesting. Plz. arrange more episodes on topics of ancient India. We, Indians don't know our ancient history and this is the root cause of our intersect chaos. Thanks to Ms. Ruchika.

Can see that she has studied at JNU. Ignore twelve jyotirling. Go by Romila Thapar who says Somnath was not a Shiva temple. Ignore inconvenient issues from Goan king’s description from his Somnath visit. On Mandu, quickly dismiss contribution of Parmars and straight go to the Muslim rulers. Ignore breaking of temples and create confusion about temples being palace.

In South India, Schools were called Kalaris which were associated with certain families, temples or some teacher. This is where they taught fighting Kalaripayattu. They also teach Sanskrit & Grammar. Marmakala is also part of Kalaripayattu, so the teachers would also be experts in Ayurveda & Siddha medicines. There are 18 levels in Kalari & a student who learns & becomes an expert in these 18 levels is capable of becoming a teacher. Though not all students become a teacher later & most go back to practice their traditional trades of their parents. But they retain all the knowledge of martial arts, language & medicine. So, the villagers will go to these people for help when they are sick or injured. If someone proves to be good in treating people, they are visited more often. Till recently, around 1960-70s, these types of people were the only medical support available to villagers. And I am talking about Kerala specifically here. My Grandfather was one such person. He was in the military as well, so when he returned he had additonal knowledge of quickfixes that they use to do in the military.

When Ashok writing his "lipi" as dhamm, why u calling it Brahmi ?? Ashok and samundgupt both used dhamm lipi it means both were Buddhist ! If gupt were brahmin, why they would tolerate praise of buddhist king written above.
