A very important difference between sugar and jaggery is the heavy usage of chemicals in refining of sugar, which is more harmful than sugar itself. Organic jaggery is anyday much better than sugar.

It's not about calories. It's about nutrition. Suger is highly acidic while jaggery is alkaline. So go for it. U can't live without little sweetness in daily life.

Doctor, it's good you have done a video on Gur. Even doctors suggest taking it when one's Haemoglobin is low. Now I have problem and pls suggest what one should do. My Fasting P glucose has come 100 , way above my usual count. PP is 117. This time I had decided to get the Insulin test done. Serum Ins. Fasting is okay(7.10) but PP (11.79) is way below the normal range. My HbA1C is 5.7. The doctor is cool about it, but I am not. The more complicated explanations make it more difficult. You keep it simple and straight. Can you help?

1) Yes - you are 100% right about the locally commercially available gur. 2) But there's one kind of gur that has the medicinal value even today. 3) It's called "Karumpatti" jaggery. 3a) It is found in Chennai & Kerala. 4) The colour is dark brown/ has the natural chocolate smell/ has very mild sweetness. Maybe bitter fr some people. 5) Can be used in tea/ coffee. 6) I don't think we can make sweets with it. 7) Commercially available honey is also bad. Too much of it will rot your teeth. 8) The best honey available in the world - with all the good medicinal values is the "Manuka" honey. 9) Found only in Yemen & Australia. Very expensive!
Dr Saab, sorry to say your homework is poor on guur. Gurr is an excellent product,best for cleaning blood ( many pollution related factories offer free on daily basis to their workers) etc etc . If taken in moderation (apx 10 gms daily) it helps your body in many ways. I m from Punjab and know hundreds of people who use only gurr at home, no sugar, and have excellent health from generations.

Sir it's not about calories. If we r getting sweet from natural source it gets digested easily rather than artificial sweetner. Suppose you have 2 options a piece of paneer which has approx 600 calories nd a burger which has same calories, would u say both r same just bcz they have same calories? Calory is a wrong way of judging food.
What is glycemic index of Jaggery ? What I understand from this video is that jaggery has complex carbohydrates , taking more time to raise blood sugar level and hence it (jaggery) has lower glycemic index as compared to white sugar ( one spoon sugar verses one spoon powdered Jaggery). Sweetness comparison is valid on commercial jaggery in which chemicals are used , but deshi/farm jaggery is way sweeter than commercial jaggery because the cheap chemicals which are used to clean n shine the jaggery are bitter to taste n thats why commercial jaggery is less sweet

With due respect, you are spreading incorrect information. I have watched full video, though I never searched for it, jaggery is way better than sugar on any parameter. Sugar is clear sweetness while Jaggery is natural blend of all imp nutrients. Jaggeyr is a natural sweetener so it will obviously have limited other nutrients. It's designed by nature in a way to provide sweetness while not pressurising pancreas to digest it. Jaggery nutrients get absorbed into system and also aid digestive process. Whereas sugar just stays in the system slowly damaging pancreas. Person eating jaggery instead of sugar will be very healthy and in shape with balanced weight. Just to get views pls don't spread misinformation. Sheer waste of time watching d video. I can already see only 'jahils' have praised u r videos thinking it's the ultimate wisdom. In India jaggery is being consumed with water to refresh and rejuvenate the body. You r basically challenging ages old tradition and nature too. I think it is always better to take jaggery in place of sugar instead of what you suggested. Keeping away from chemicals is good. All the nutrients are not lab evolved in jaggery. Any chemicals is harmful to our body. Many doctors think their knowledge is great and hence themselves propagate on behalf of medical and pharma mafia or else they are foolish.
