I read the the books of Nani Phalkiwala 'We the Nation' and 'We the People'. His passion for the great future for India is touching, even from his sick bed. Gandhiji was also a lawyer and practiced in South Africa. He wrote that He is to compromise mostly by looking into the realities and both parties used to pay. He fought the famous case in India in 1922 I think, against His public activities in instigating the people against the Government. I don't know whether it is a part of the curriculum, but I think everyone should read it. His courage to argue his own case for the cause of the freedom for His people was/ is inspiring. I think suck commitments for social causes are rarer nowadays?

I think late Shri Nani Palkhiwala Sir was a legendary lawyer in all sections of Law, wether it is constitution, taxation, corporate affairs, company law and many more. Deep analysis and criticism of budget of central government, we can't forget even today. Thank you for giving details of Top 10 lawyers of this great country out of 20 lakhs lawyers. Their contribution in the field of law is outstanding. I am aghast to mention that their contribution towards the elimination/reducing the huge pendency of cases has not been highlighted. Shall be thankful if their contribution towards reining in corruption, elimination of fake lawyers, fixing of accountability of judges etc is also brought to the notice of man like me.
Sir, you forgot to include Nani Palkhiwala's name. Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi once said that Nani Palkhiwala was God's gift to India. Mr. Harish Salve entered into legal profession because of him. Legendary Nani Palkhiwala argued before full court i.e. before 13 judges of Supreme Court in Kesavanand Bharathi case. The judgement delivered in this case shaped Indian politics and course of judiciary for many years. His lectures on Indian Budget used to be festive treat which not only economists, business community but even politicians and government officials keenly attended.

As per reply seen, the top most is not always the best lawyer. late mr. N.Palkiwala ji has 3 to 4 point supportive always.1. Study from u.k, 2. As a parsi he is favorable lawyer of TATA group of Industries which is highly paid industry. The ruling party and judiciary always supportive to Tata group. 3. very few lawyers are available for constitutional matters. 4. Negotiation is easy and possible. He never bill extra for negotiations. etc. It makes him top most lawyer.

Finally,these black coats are a part of rich person defendant. No one is here for a poor man side.And our judiciary system is a complicated , It's beyond understand why a lower court takes many more years to convict a person but he gets immediately bail from Higher court, ridiculous?

I would appreciate those judges who have the courage to take strict actions against the crimesters, criminals politicians immaterial of their post, to even arrest them if required....as they do to common man for the same crimes. No one is above the law.
Defending people like sanjay dutt/salman khan and other criminal politicians is not something to be proud about..We know they are doing their job but when u know that ur client is the culprit how can someone defend them..Being a professional its fine but after all we all are humans..I will respect those unsuccessful(According to the society)advocates who fights for poor people..

You cannot forget Nani Palkhiwala. He should head the list. I don't agree with the cases handled by Manu Singhvi & Kapil Sibal. They are rank politicians. To be in this list the Lawyers should have handled ordinary cases exceptionally & not as a rule & never for survival.

I want to suggest one more name in this regard that we never forget Mr. Prashant Bhushan is also a famous advocate in Supreme Court of India. He is the only advocate who raise the cases in the honourable Supreme Court of India in the public interest e.g. 11:10 RTI .
