Late Autumn in Nature
The nature of Bangladesh changes with the rotation of the seasons.
Late autumn arrives with the hint of approaching winter as the autumn sky fades.
The fourth of the six seasons, late autumn, comprises the Bengali months Kartik-Ogrohayon.
Misty mornings and lovely sunny days,
Brief afternoons filled with cool breezes,
All add to the splendor of late autumn.
Golden paddy of the fields swings in the wind.
Once the Bengali year used to start with late autumn.
It is the season of paddy harvesting.
The harvest gets underway.
Everyone brings the golden paddy home.
The ‘Pitha’ festival begins with new rice.
At this time, many fairs, theaters, and Baul music festivals take place across the country.
Then comes Nabanna (harvest celebration), as a song of inspiration.
The nature of Bengal becomes gray and rusty during this time.
Cape Jasmine, Arabian Jasmine, Night-flowering Jasmine, Orange Jasmine, Indian Cork Tree, Purple bauhinia, Pride of Burma, and Indian Devil Tree bloom in this season.
These flowers add colors and fragrances to this season.
Various insects hover over these vibrant flowers.
The beauty of nature is enhanced.
The dew-soaked Night-flowering Jasmine scattered under trees ushers a charming dawn.
The colorful crotons brighten up the home yard.
Lotus and water lilies are seen in the lakes.
This season offers Chinese gooseberry, Elephant apple, coconut, and other fruits.
The migratory birds start arriving in this country during this season.
Nature looks fascinating in their presence.
But the seasonal diversity is being affected by climate change.
Deforestation, pollution, and other harmful activities are disrupting the natural environment.
The traditions of the county are fading too.
We must be aware of conserving seasonal diversity.
The only way to sustain seasonal diversity is to keep the environment in balance.
Therefore, we must plant more trees and protect agricultural land.
Only then will the nature of Bangladesh be healthy and we will have a better life.
