Once upon a time there happened an unbelievable fight between two eminent personalities -- Vidyasagar , one of the pillars of Bengal renaissance and TarkaBachaspati, an impressive intellectual in the field of Sanskrit Literature and Indian philosophy.
১৮৪৫ সালের ২৩শে জানুয়ারি, বিদ্যাসাগরের অভূতপূর্ব চেষ্টা ও পরিশ্রমের দরুন তারানাথ তর্কবাচস্পতি মাসিক ৯০ টাকা বেতনে সংস্কৃত কলেজের অধ্যাপক হিসাবে নিযুক্ত হলেন।
বলাবাহুল্য, বন্ধুর জন্য বিদ্যাসাগরের এমন নিঃস্বার্থ পরোপকারী কাজ সে যুগের শিক্ষিত সমাজকে বিস্মিত ও মুগ্ধ করেছিল। সেই শুরু হয়েছিল বিদ্যাসাগর ও তারানাথ তর্কবাচস্পতির মধ্যে নিবিড় এক বন্ধুত্ব।
কিন্তু সেই বন্ধুত্ব কখনই দীর্ঘস্থায়ী হল না। বিদ্যাসাগরের দৌলতে তারানাথ তর্কবাচস্পতি অর্জন করেছিলেন প্রভূত অর্থ এবং দেশ-বিদেশের সামাজিক সম্মান, মর্যাদা। বলাবাহুল্য, যে ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধুর জন্য তর্কবাচস্পতির এই প্রভাব-প্রতিপত্তি, তার অবদানকে তিনি একসময় বেমালুম ভুলেই গেলেন। শুধু তাই নয়, তৈরি করলেন বিদ্যাসাগরের সমাজসংস্কারের কাজে তীব্র বিরোধিতা, যে বিরোধিতার দরুন অপ্রত্যাশিতভাবে ঘটেছিল এই দুই বন্ধুর মধ্যে ঐতিহাসিক চমকপ্রদ এক লড়াই।
সেই ঐতিহাসিক লড়াইয়ে বিজয়ী হয়েও, বিদ্যাসাগর হারিয়ে ছিলেন তাঁর ঘনিষ্ঠ বন্ধু তারানাথ তর্কবাচস্পতিকে। আজীবনের জন্য তাদের অন্তরঙ্গ বন্ধুত্বে নেমে এসেছিল মর্মান্তিক চিরবিচ্ছেদ। জীবনের লড়াইয়ের পথে বিদ্যাসাগর হয়েছিলেন আরো একবার নিঃসঙ্গ একাকী এক যোদ্ধা।
সেই ঐতিহাসিক লড়াইয়ের গল্প নিয়েই তৈরি হয়েছে এই ভিডিও।

বিদ্যাসাগর মহাশয় প্রমাণ করেছিলেন হিন্দু শাস্ত্রে বহুবিবাহ বিশেষ ক্ষেত্র ছাড়া অনুমোদন নেই। বিদ্যাসাগর মহাশয়ের মত কারো সংস্কৃত ভাষায় এত দখল ছিলো না। হিন্দু ধর্মে সমস্ত সংস্কার শাস্ত্রসম্মত।

Vidyasagar was a true traveller onwards light, the light that drives away the tenebrosity, the all shrouding darkness of ignorance and dead legacy. The unnatural hardness of vidyasagar's character was a required necessity, it was the critical amount of virility, without it , he could not break the crushing stones of manmade atrocities. So he was alone and he peacefully accepted it to free his compatriots who were deeply mean and vile. In fact his countrymen failed him. We are carrying same shameful legacy still now. Bengal is now a waste land a land of bizarre darkness. The light of awakening is gone. On the other hand the less we say about Bankimchandra, the better will we do for the youth.leaving his literary genius, he was a half baked intellectual, a bloody revisionist, a precursor of communal disharmony. His sense of history was childish, his sociological knowing was almost laughable. Whenever he attempted any serious political, religious or philosophical essay, dazzling ignorance studded throughout the passages. If he did not take western secular curriculum he would prove himself another bachospati or nayratna of Bhatpara. Vidyasagar was an accident in tradition of Bengali intelligentsia starting from the days Madhusudan Swaraswati, scholars after scholars came in Bengal, through out centuries, they mouthed loudly their thinking and melted in the darkness of death failing to scratch the monolith of pathetic social order that boiled and grilled the commons particularly the subalterns and the marginals. But vidyasagar threw away armchair standpoint, risked his own honour, livelihood and life to establish the humane truth in a pitiless society. His conscience always cried to see the penury, haplessness and oppression against defenceless. He was a true champion of the underdogs. Whenever he faced a strife between prolonged custom and humanity he always clutched the latter. The firebrand members of Young Bengal thundered chorus with grand promises and went back home downing their heads to old rituals and peculiar platitudes of Bengali customs but once this great soul cracked the cocoon he never refuged to the lap of the past, he fluttered towards futurity. Though the sky was murky, the air was suffocatingly condensed with silent wails and helpless breath of the oppressed Vidyasagar armed with his singularity accomplished a giant triumph to create a deep large hole sidening a large chunk of monster assemblage of ignorance in the sky of poor Bengal so that the shaft of sunlight could open the eyes of Bengalees who are truly unfortunate enough having a land that often bows down before the putrid old customs before the cruel oppressors and caste hierarchies.

Well said, but I have respect also for Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. He was one of the greatest literary artists in Bengali literature as well as a great patriot of the country. His ideological thought may be controversial to some some extent, but we can never deny his impressive contribution to the betterment of the country.
