My Canadian born son moved to Australia for studies during the first 2 mo. He stayed with close family as I wanted him to learn about the country Get help to find job and connect w family. However, immediately I gave my Australian family member $800/ month he had not asked or expected, which made things smooth for everyone. After 2 mo my son found a rental and moved out and we have fine relationships.

We invited one cousin for work. He Stayed in our home gave him bedroom, free food clothing plus job. Wife and son came we gave them our basement free . all furniture provided and gave him older van free. After his family came 6 months later, one early morning 3 am they left to another province in winter without telling us.
I think helping close family, first cousins or elderly relatives for the first 2-4 wks is fine. Help them get started but anything beyond for both for the guest & host is unreasonable
this situation is everywhere when punjabi visit Canada or canadian visit punjab. but i feel one must spend time 2-3 days with guest and set his mind to be not depend on you.
People of Punjab should do the same with person coming from Canada Australia America for that matter. Unfortunately people of Punjab will never do this. But for canadian Punjabis I couldn't say anything
