Are Seer Karuneegars brahmins? Most of them wear Sacred Thread or Poonal. At the time of marriage, bride is made to wear madisaar either like Smartha brahmin ladies or like Iyengar [Sri Vaishnavite] ladies. Bridegroom wears panchakacham like brahmins. Some of them who are orthodox continue to wear panchakacham [men] and madisaar [women] throughout their life span. On top of all these brahminical customs, they have Gothrams and Suthrams named after Rishis like Gautama, Bharadwaja, Kaushika, Kapila, Marichi and so on. Unless they chant Vedas as per their Gothram and Suthram they may not have been able to maintain accounts especially when there was no computer or software. I will be happy if anybody who has knowledge about this unique caste in India may give more details. Thanks a lot.
