Importance of meditation is explained very well Gurudeva. We are seeing the results in our day to day life, required things are happening automatically without any extra efforts. Civoham Gurudeva.
Please note: I am commenting based on my own experience with meditation. I have been doing watching breath meditation for the past 3 years but honestly, I did not find any improvement in myself. You may ask how I know that it is not working well because I still get stressed out at work, sometimes my mind doesn't think fast or remember stuff. I still have jealousy, and meanness/cunningness in me, I lost friends due to my bad behavior, and I fought with coworkers. So not one thing i saw improvement in. Sorry not trying to be funny but I am talking about my mind problems here.
If one thing is not working doesn't mean the end of the road. There is only one problem i.e.your mind, if you can learn how to deal with it then there are no more problems.
