A 11 th century Chola temple in Mysore, Karnataka.. As cholas under the leadership of Raja Raja chola conquered the western Gangas, he built so many new temples in the province of Gangavadi. This 1000 year old temple was built during the period of Rajaraja chola the great, after a great victory in the Kaliyuru war, thereby capturing Talakadu, the capital of the western ganga dynasty around 1006 CE. During more than one century Chola rule, this temple was called as Ravikulamanikka vinnagar azhwar & this fertile village came under the division of Jananathapuram. Both the temple & village were named under the title of emperor Rajaraja.
