Humility? Respect for each other? Really? Are you sure about that? In a society that discriminates on various bases, in a society that does not advocate equality and where you are forced to take abuses and oppressions , for you are meant to have a lower social status than the other, where you gain certain privileges and the rights to oppress others, for your superior social status..it is the lack of mutual respect within the culture that’s making the public offices extremely corrupt, it is the lack of compassion, empathy and mutual respect that makes the private employers exploit the employees and make them work for low wages for long hours, it is the same ‘culture’ that leads to the rampant neglect for hygiene, quality and aesthetics of any structure or object around us..while you have to be submissive to any kind of ‘social superiors’, while you have to address somebody ‘sir’ or ‘madam’, while you are to be scared of people in power, that contradicts your argument of a culture of ‘respect for each other’ outright ..I don’t want to go into details of our social behavior, the prevalent feudal system and the social hierarchy and the discriminations on the basis of caste for instance, that existed or is prevalent or about any regressive practices prevalent or abolished..moreover, culture is not something of the past and an ideal definition that you have created for yourself of those days ..it’s something that’s ever evolving and greatly influenced by the world away from us today, through the advancement of science and technology of today and it has only been changing for better and we have only been getting more civilized and more global, which is backed by progressive laws of the time that the constitution provides for..well, there is probably something ‘uniform’ about the lives of all the people in India, which you may call the ‘Indian Culture’, but that doesn’t prove that it is the most ideal one and something to be proud of, for we are nowhere close to the developed countries when it comes to the material growth or the social empowerment..it is worth introspecting and over the past few decades, we have only been coming to a global culture, where humanity is above any sense of nationalism and the tastes, interests and lifestyles have been getting common and uniform..it’s about time we adopt the best values from the improved and progressed societies, rather than being proud of the inheritances from certain layer of the past
