In this episode of the show In Focus we talk about the latest movie Vishesham.
Vishesham is a movie that is a family drama entertainer. The story revolves around a couple played by Chinnu Chandni and Anand Madhusoodan who get married and get pressurized into having kids of their own. Their otherwise happy life now gets thrown into a series of highs and lows which they never anticipated. The movie is set in the backdrop of Kochi city where there are a lot of fertility clinics. The movie touches upon a lot of serious subjects but handles it with and undertone of humour. The movie is directed by Sooraj Tom, the writer is Anand Madhusoodanan and stars Johny Antony, Gilu Joseph, Althaf Salim and Mala Parvathi.
in this video we touch upon the making of the movie and discuss the subjects that the movie was trying to address whether it is the man woman relationship, domestic abuse or the fertility issues. We also talk about how Chinnu and Anand approached the characters and discuss the casting with Sooraj as well.

ഞാൻ കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത് കൊണ്ട് എന്നോട് കുട്ടികളെപ്പറ്റി പലരും ചോദിക്കാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ' ഇല്ല ' എന്ന മറുപടിക്ക് അടുത്ത മറുചോദ്യം എത്ര നാളായി കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചിട്ട് എന്നാകും. അപ്പോ .... വർഷങ്ങൾ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ ഉടനെ വരും അടുത്തത് ആർക്കാണ് കുഴപ്പം ... ആദ്യമൊക്കെ ഞാൻ വിവരിക്കുമായിരുന്നു 'മാനസികമായി പോരുത്തപ്പെട്ടിട്ട് മതി എന്നാണ് തീരുമാനം ' എന്നൊക്കെ. പിന്നെപ്പിന്നെ ഇതൊരു സ്ഥിരം ചോദ്യം ആയപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ തിരിച്ചങ്ങ് ചോദിക്കാൻ തുടങ്ങി - ' എൻ്റെ സംശയമാണ്... എത്ര നാളായി കല്യാണം കഴിച്ചിട്ട് എന്ന ചോദ്യത്തിന് പിന്നാലെ ആർക്കാണ് കുഴപ്പം എന്നു ചോദിക്കുന്നെങ്കിൽ, ആദ്യ രാത്രി (ദിവസം) മുതൽ നിങ്ങളൊക്കെ കൊച്ചിനെ കിട്ടാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയാണോ? അതിന് പരസ്പരം മനസ്സിലാക്കണം, friendly ആകണംഎന്നൊന്നുമില്ലേ' എന്ന്. എന്നാലോ വല്ലാത്തൊരു മുഖഭാവം വച്ച് മറുപടി തരാതെ സ്ഥലം വിടും. ഞാൻ എന്ത് അഹങ്കാരി ആണെന്നോ മറ്റോ ആയിരിക്കും. പക്ഷേ ഇതുവരെ ആരും ഇതിൻ്റെ reply തന്നിട്ടില്ല.

എനിക്കും ഇങ്ങനെ തന്ന. നമ്മൾ ബസിൽ പോകുമ്പോൾ നമ്മുടെ അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന ചേച്ചിമാർ വരെ ചോദിക്കും. കുട്ടികൾ. ഇല്ല എന്നു പറയുമ്പോൾ അവിടെ ഇങ്ങനെ ഒരു ഡോക്ടർ ഉണ്ട്. പുള്ളിയെ just കണ്ടാമതി കുട്ടികൾ ആവും എന്നൊക്കെ. എനിക്കെ അറിയാൻ വയ്യാത്ത ഒരു കാര്യം കുട്ടികൾ ഇല്ലാത്തതു നമുക്കെ സങ്കടം ഉണ്ട്. എന്നു കരുതി അതു മുഴുവൻ മുഖത്തു വരുത്തി എപ്പോഴും കരഞ്ഞു നടക്കാൻ പറ്റുമോ. എനിക്കും ജീവിക്കേണ്ട. അങ്ങനെ നമ്മൾ നടക്കുമ്പോൾ നാട്ടുകാരും ബന്ധുക്കളും വിചാരിക്കുന്നെ നമുക്ക് സങ്കടം ഒന്നും ഇല്ല കണ്ടില്ലേ അവൾ ഒരുങ്ങി കെട്ടി പോകുന്നേ. അങ്ങനെ ഒരു ചിന്താഗതി ആണ്. നമുക്കും ഭർത്താവിനും treat ചെയ്ത ഡോക്ടർക്കും അറിയാം ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് ഇനി കുട്ടികൾ ഉണ്ടാവില്ല എന്നു. അവര് നമ്മളോട് ഉള്ള ഇഷ്ടം കൊണ്ടോ ഒന്നും ചോദിക്കുന്ന അല്ല. ആ സമയത്തെ നമുക്കെ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന വിഷമം കാണാൻ ചോദിക്കുന്ന ആണ്.

I respect Dhanya for her the way she keeps an interview profoundly interesting without fishing for controversial words from the guest. The long lost integrity and class of interviewers being rarely held up. Other interviewers from Malayalam are a disgrace to the industry except for a very few. People like Veena are the other end of the spectrum.

I came across your discussions today, just after watching the movie last night with my wife on Prime Video. I have to say, it was a well-scripted film. Initially, I wasn’t too fond of the hero, but by the end, after learning about his backstory and realizing that he was also the writer of the script, I truly appreciated Anand’s character. Great casting, and definitely worth watching-a refreshing and unique experience after a long time!

My mil started asking me about kids right after one month of my marriage. She continues to do so now also. I have never told her that i was on ocp for atleast 10 months..as prescibed by my gynae for my pcos. And nkw I stay away from my hubby due to my studies for the last 5 months...and we have been married only for 15 months. But she calls me every 3..4 days and each call ends with her explajning the nedd to have babies as soon as possible.
