Hello Thampi.. This is a great topic that needed an urgent thought. You took it off really well. You mentioned about humans who claim out of ordinary experiences as if they need to prove if they are indeed humans. As a person with both scientific and spiritual orientation simultaneously, I would like to express a ray of thought. Everybody got similar bodies but not everybody got a sense of music or dance. Similarly, all got similar brains but not everybody get scientific orientation or a sense of spirituality. People are of different types and depth. A person who is able to see things in numbers and a person who sees things in "aura" belongs to different ends of a spectrum that can even possibly a circular spectrum as well. We all are at different locations of this spectrum, so its better not to mock each other if we cannot see the entire spectrum and our own places. That's quite contrary to the scientific temper which calls for an open approach. Regarding one's career, I would like to give a thought to ponder. One group of students can spend X amount of money on same set of resources and Y amount of time in same direction and still produce different results. There is a grey area over there that concerns almost all human beings. For people who get good results may need not figure out why they got good result. Everybody else is actually clueless why it happens. The astrology tried to develop its own "science" (pseudo science) to address this gap. It used stars and planets, as ancient humans saw these celestials in night time when they could perhaps do no other productive work, and they tried to link their lives with it. A set of humans collectively agreed to find a pattern in this direction. Its just like modern scientists that produced more objective findings in contrast. Now, a stream of these ancient "scientists" found them quite complex and useless. They focused on human experiences when they sit alone or in nature or with fellow human beings. Meditation evolved. Eventually, in modern day, we have a whole buffet in front of us. We can pick anything we want as per our nutritional requirements and basically, hunger! We all are doing it. You can choose maths oriented science, science with less maths, applying science but we all use fruits of science. So no longer can refuse to believe in science. Those who feel confusion or intense hunger to eat more or have "truth seeking" nature, they explore astrology, meditation and further. Each one stops when are full. Those who have hunger in both directions, like me, explore both ends of the spectrum and tries to bend it into a loop. 😇

When Newton and Einstein told something that's not correct, scientific world just rejected it, and accepted what they told correctly (of course, after experiments and confirmation). They were not offended/harassed. And by doing so, science progressed to find better things/theories from the existing best ones so far. Just to add, Issac Newton had spent enormous amount of time, doing calculations about the "birth" and span of earth and universe (that time, it was confined to the solar system) according to Biblical literature, and that is no where being taught in schools, not even by the church. So, all it means is, "what" is told, and question "why" is told, and no matter "who" told. Unless we are able to disconnect these and think these empirically, then we are prone to cognitive biases. 😇
@VaisakhanThampi Hi sir, your explanation is really simple and logical for the common man to understand. I would like you to do an episode on the science behind meditation. I was born to a religious family and believed (I am basically a person who keeps own questioning everything and pursue right knowledge) in its principles when I was a child. Later as I explored more, understood its geographical and historical origin and became a spiritualist and agnostic. But, on deeper thinking, learning and by hearing to talks by freethinkers like you, now I feel spirituality is a false narrative. But, there are people like 'Sri M' who seems to be so genuine and we cannot feel like distrusting. And, I too have experienced many positive life outcomes by practicing meditation under a particular system. It has helped me to remove my emotional turbulences and think in a more logical manner with more clarity. All spiritual systems including the one I practice talks about 'God', 'rebirth' etc. which doesn't seem to exist logically and contradicts its own theories. However, the meditation practice has done me immense good for the past 20 years and keeps me feel fresh, calm, active, happy and more. I was able to rise from a stage of severe depression and addiction only with the help of this meditation and it still helps me a lot. So, if you know more about meditation and can explain my experiences, it would be great!
@renjithtr20: If you feel happiness on something you follow, just do it if it doesn't harm yourself or others by any means. It doesn't matter whether it is rational or superstitious. In such sense if you feel happiness in believing God just do it. But the moment you feel your God troubles you, it's better to look back into it. Now coming to your question about meditation. There are many ways to meditate. If you are using a religious way and you are getting benefit why do you want to stop it. After watching all these talks, debates and science stuff which made you skeptic and you started doubting yourself. I know this is a tough situation. I had gone through this state long back. But, now I've crystal clarity and I deny the existence of God. But, that is somewhat relative. Many accept existence of God with crystal clarity. It all depends how you approach this. If you start feeling all your religious practice and spirituality doesn't sound rational, may be, you should end up being rational which gives you extreme pleasure and weightlessness in your life. You can see life much better and understand the right meaning of being human. But, even otherwise also, not a big deal until and unless you are not harming yourself and any humanbeings in this world and you are content. So that is the point here. For me, I never benefited out of meditation. I was always extremely calm and meditation didn't make any difference on me. Instead of meditation what I do is I think if today is my last day in my life what should i do today. This feeling gives me content and humility in my life. Living a life with full of happiness. But, it doesn't mean i'm not planning for future to support the life of those who depend on me. However there will be conflicts always in this world. Because nothing is perfect in this world. So, accept all our limitations and without feeling guilty move on. Be good to self and others. There is only one life in this world and it doesn't have any meaning other than protect the life form in this world either by not dying or by reproducing another life form to here. This is what I understood the purpose of any living things in this world. In this aspect even if you are not successful also not a big deal. Because, there are more than enough life forms in this world already. So just enjoy your life.
