To be connected on Net all the time is the biggest disadvantage of this system. IMHO, Home automation has to be secure and private and it's control and working, should exist only within the walls of your home. If access permission is granted, then the owner could access his home automation system from outside also. It could have a wifi hub to control, and store local device data, so that there is no need for it to access the net as well as mobile data connection is also not required to access home automation devices through local wifi connectivity.

@@OGH3294 Currently there is no way to control smart devices without internet. This is because each manufacturer has their own way of talking to their devices. There is no way to host this communication method locally, with a home assistant or otherwise. In the future all companies may arrive at a common standard of communication, something like USB , if so, then local only control may become possible.

I am in Kochi and have done home automation with the devices itself. No need of wifi connected switches if the device itself supports wifi hardware and automation programs. I have a Google Nest Hub Max in the kitchen as the control unit, Atomberg Smart fans in all rooms, Panasonic A/C units in all rooms, Panasonic Fridge, Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Philips smart lights in all rooms and Eufy security camera system connected to the network. Only thing avoided due to security concern is a smart lock for the door. The Wifi across the home is provided by TP Link Deco XE75 mesh system with 3 nodes hard wired to eliminate dead spots in all areas of the house. All this works together extremely well. Voice control, cell phone control, remote doorbell camera monitoring with 2 way communication is available 24/7 anywhere.

@@AnsalEbrahim Smart means being able to control the device functions fully using app or voice control. If it is A/c then control temperature and speed according to time. If it is fan then being able to set the speed along with on and off. If dishwasher and washing machine, then being able to select program and receiving alert on phone when cycle is finished. If it is lights, then being able to set the colour of the light and brightness along with on and off. If it is Fridge, then being able to monitor and set the temperature remotely, receiving alert on phone when fridge or freezer door is left open. Simply being able to switch ON and OFF remotely cannot really be called smart device. To obtain the full benefits the device itself needs to be smart. Not the wall switch.

@@jintocvg If power fails and comes back it will get connected back to wifi and work as normal again. Even in off position it is still connected to wifi to enable remote switch on. In power failure or wifi failure, the app will show device offline.
