my mother is 67. She has been having uncontrolled asthma for over five years, we believed she was a severe asthmatic patient and therefore she was treated like one. Just until recently this month (April '21), during bronchoscopy, they found diffuse black mucosa with diffuse bronchial stenosis and inflammation. They took bronchial biopsy and found silica-like particles, she was diagnosed as silicosis lung disease. I'm aware that no effective treatment exists except supportive care. How about lung transplantation, would it be applicable for her case? how do I know if she's a candidate? may you pls help advise.
You are right. Silicosis has no known treatment and lung transplantation can be considered. However, lung transplant is like trading one disease for another and has a lot of implications. You can find this in my previous video about lung transplants. It is worthwhile evaluating your mother. Depending on where she lives, there should be a lung transplant center that is close by and her pulmonologist can refer her for a consult.
Wow!! Just realise a lot more comments on your posts than before so having my fingers crossed that you’ll get a chance to read n return your thought on this comment. It’s hard but need to accept the fact that my mother is way too weak to think about lung transplant given her recovery might not be as good as we hope, and so living with it (silicosis) is the only option I could come up with right now. Anyway, I’m now more worried about her condition as it’s getting worse and I’m not sure if letting her get COVID-19 jabs will even worsen her case? I wanna believe it won’t but seeing lots of news that ppl died because of complications of the vaccines and it really scares me. 😞
