There’s a racial discrimination and systemic racism in America. I’m an international student in the US and I’ve experienced it myself. What’s crazy is that I’ve experienced racism not from white ppl but black ppl. Some Black Americans are racist towards immigrants. I can share my experience in your podcast one day when I visit Ethiopia soon.
Cause you ain't really met a real American bud Come to the south or the appalachia area and the folks here are like some of the funniest out there they are rednecks and they have no idea where tf Ethiopia is let alone they don't even know the map of usa they are just poor crackheads and the term racism is not common here in the south unlike How BBC & CNN makes you think the south is racist
Honestly America is the land of opportunity, the reason why it is up to the person who lives here, because you can be whoever you want to be! Thank you guys.
Enjoyed today’s episode as much as the others. The guest seems humble and genuine. I appreciated how she confidently said I don’t know instead of making up stories. She is young and I wish her continued success and growth. Podcast hosts - the three of you have excellent chemistry and the humor you add is always entertaining and respectful. One can tell all three of you are smart even when you down play your achievements or self deprecate to keep the vibe entertaining and light while still being educational. Yonathan - you were upbeat in today’s episode and more engaged. Please keep it up. Beki - I like your consistent delivery of respectful humor. Abel - I like your infectious laughters and well-timed questions. However, in today’s episode you made some comments that appeared insensitive similar to the famous quote attributed to Marie Antoinette, “Let them eat cake”. Humor is not clueless about the plight of people. You can still be funny and be sensitive to acknowledge people’s experience.
As an Ethiopian who grew up in Ethiopia, I initially shared the sentiment of not being offended by certain words. However, upon delving into the historical struggles of black people and their reclaiming of the word 'nigga,' I came to recognize its significance. For a white person to casually use that word implies a disregard for the battles and victories of black ancestors, suggesting their fight against slavery was in vain. So it is understandable for any Ethiopian not to feel anything towards the word because we never where bought in to slavery by the whiteman. But for the black ppl it has so much weight.
Coming from a person who came to the U.S. at the age of 8 and who is working in the media industry….I noticed a lot of information gaps and shortage in this interview, especially from your guest. I applaud your ability to carry conversations, but it would be great if you guys as hosts do a little bit of research on your guests and the topics that being discussed on the episode.
Abel needs to read more about systematic racism, cause it’s not always about the effort you put out, if the system works against you, you can’t move that far.
The dorm fee is much much less than renting a place ende $2000 per semester mekfel is not much compared to $1,500 every month when renting a place and racial racism demo sera setefeleg or when you go shopping at a fancy place menamen new experience metaregew most of the time. Honestly I don’t think she have enough experience to talk about life in America. What she can talk about is her experience with school menamen enji she hasn’t been out there working, driving around or renting a place of her own and designing with bills and shit. Also you get almost all of the benefits as a green card holder, you dont necessarily need to be a citizen. Life in America is great honestly. Beki demo I 100% agree with you mikebeleh sew really matters.

There are many kind of discrimination. Racism is mental illness it will take time to fully eradicate it. የምትወጂውን ነገር ስታደርጊ you become very good at it because you have passion towards what you do. If you become good at it there is always money comes with it. If you just become an architect without passion you're not going to design iconic building that makes you paid huge lumpsum. Richness isn't something you set as goal. Richness is a result follow your hard work and you can only hard work when you have passion for it otherwise you can easily be frustrated and do not do it well enough
Racism is real out here man. She never experienced but she can’t say there’s no racism. She only been out here for a year and half, plus goes to school and go home. She’s not really out here exposed to it, so there’s no way she can experience that.
The school is NOT taking money from international students and giving it to citizens/permanent residents. If the student qualifies for financial aid the Department of Education (aka the government) pays the school in the form of a grant and loan and leftover money is paid out to the student. All other scholarships are given based on merit, need and special qualifications .
When it comes to racism in the United States, African Americans and Black immigrants have very different experiences. All people of color in America are impacted by racism, but the prejudices against the African American community are particularly notable. Interestingly, some African immigrants have unflattering opinions of Black people in the US-a perception that we, Habeshas, also share. It is often acknowledged that immigrants and people of color continue to face a lack of opportunity and representation. A Black or other minority person's success frequently requires twice as much work as that of a White person, highlighting the existence of systematic racism. I don't know why it's easy for most people to accept stereotypes of Black people that are created by white people or what they want us to see or have portrayed in our minds.
Grilling a kid for wanting to have fun dancing? She just likes dancing that's all, what's with the unnecessary, redundant and unimaginative questions???
Abe - you have very strong opinions about issues related to equality - blacks & women, for example. Some of the questions you raise about these issues are perceptive and have merits. But in most cases you luck information. Please start reading books about the issues you talk. You are smart, but you are not informed!!
Titus 2 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Mark 8 36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
