So true, I hated watercolours till I got good quality ones for my bday 6 years ago. Now they are my fav medium, and when I forgot to take them on some vacation I went to local stores but couldn't find art store. So I bought some higher quality school set for funz, but it wasnt fun, lack of ability to layer, colours washing eachother off and creating mud. I rather pay this euro for tiniest little square of paint rather than have those cheap liquid chalks
I definitely wasn't expecting the pans to be better than the tubes! I prefer the pan colours too, as you can always water them down. Also, they don't seem to have that chalky finish and you'd think if that was going to happen, the pans would be more chalky. This test really demonstrates how much paper quality matters and can even make dollar store paints look acceptable.
Obligatory "omg Kasey drew fanart (that isn't pokemon)" comment Also really surprised how nice the pans were!? The colors were so lovely and fit animal crossing vibes perfectly, I hope you do more.
I know that sometimes when you use your posca pens you have issues with the paper ripping, so maybe you could try acrylic paper. I have found that it is much more durable. Love your videos!
I can tell how inspired you are just being in Japan. There is a lighter, happier feel from your videos! And I can see your brain is just excited to try and do new things! I love it!! Bunny is adorable!! Love this!!
I like the texture of the pan watercolors more. But I gotta admit, the illustration made with the tube ones, looks so much better. I don’t know why. It has more emotion in it
honestly, i really like how the tube watercolor painting turned out probably just bc of the facial expression + i like subtle tones but i really like that one! the pan painting is super cute too 😭✨
I really loved this cute artwork today and that it was made with dollar paints! I definitely like the pan set colors out of the two.... the plaid shirt too cute and his bucky teeth!!!
I can't speak for the application but I really liked how the tubes turned out in the end. All in all it was an adorable artwork. I love Animal Crossing😊
Oh my god. Im sitting in the dark 4 am in the morning half asleep and never watched one of your videos before. Needless to say im fully awake now because I thought the little character running on the screen in the beginning was a bug.
In all honesty I wasn't really surprised by the pan watercolors. I have a similar watercolor pan set that I bought a year ago from Daiso (Japanese Dollar Store) and they work beautifully. Little to no chalkiness, bright and earthy colors, and good layering and mixing. Only downside I have is the plastic palette it comes in started falling apart after a few trips outside, but still not bad for the price. I also agree that the brushes in Japanese dollar stores are pretty good quality, especially if you're a beginner. Love your review Kasey! 😊🎨❤
Honestly, I have some pretty good tube watercolors, though every now and then I get in the mood to use the pan ones that I got from the kids arts and crafts section at Walmart 😅 they just give a certain vibe that I like
Huh that’s strange, the dollar store watercolour tubes I used are different and more vibrant actually. They’re also kinda easier to use. Maybe it has something to do with brand? I got mine from Daiso instead of Seria, maybe that’s why.
OOOH this was such a good video. Would you consider doing some more of the AC characters you have from the -kinder- chocolate eggs? Also also, kind of blown away at how much more vibrant the pans were. I fully expected those results from the tubes!
Fun fact about watercolours: There are a few different terms for them in German. There are "Wasserfarben" which just means water colour. A bit of an umbrella term and the closest translation. But then we have the word Aquarelle and Deckfarben. The first is typically the more high quality, transparent water colours, like winsor & newton sells etc. The second literally means something like "covering colours". It's the cheaper water colours that are really not that transparent. They're chalky(as in, literally often contain chalk as a filler), they can actually cover each other and at least here are often sold with a tube of white paint that resembles gouache. Children often use those chalkier paints in school, but artists rarely use them. They are hard to control, way more splotchy, the colour just kind of sits ontop of the paper, rather than being at least in part being absorbed by the paper. It's easier to distinguish paints this way, but you can often see it by looking at pan watercolours. If the pans already look matte and a bit like a chalk hockey puck, it's the chalky stuff, the better kind typically has a slightly shiny surface and the pan looks darker than the colour that ends up on the page.
Most professional paints come in tubes. The best (opinions will always vary) pans are “poured” from the same mixture. QoR are a bit to hard to control some people like that about them. I know Windsor & Newton has separate recipes but I gotta say I never liked them much, in either form! I hope your enjoying your time in Japan, How are the book ideas going?? Nudge, Nudge! Take care and enjoy!
If i have to be honest...i love the tube and pan watercolors (or both) Cause im amazed by how proffesionals use them..i have no ideo how to explain it but... When professional asrtist use those *chefs kiss* Perfect
Hello kasey! I love you videos I hope you make them forever I spent my whole day everyday watching your videos thank you for everything kasey have a good day.
Hey Kasey, I've learned SO much from you! You are so calming to listen to and even tho you draw some weird stuff every now and then, I appreciate you so much. 😊 And that is super truth! Anyways, thank you for existing. Oh, what did you do to your finger?
Plastic is a porous material so it's definitely because of cheaper quality and can lead to it drying out or the plastic cracking and wasting paint so I wouldn't keep those long term but it seems really fun to experiment with
