for anyone asking, this is the ORIGINAL version of Dead Mom, for the show though it's different and lowered because this version was to hard on her vocal chords to do at least twice a day
Her voice is incredible. She’s recently been singing using a different technique which is a common one that wrecks people’s vocal chords which sucks. But I saw Her in the London run of David Bowie’s Lazarus and I was in complete awe!
It's so crazy to see her here, so grown! She is from my home town and I remember her as a little girl playing Annie at our community theatre. She's such a talented, driven girl!

TO THOSE COMPLAINING ABOUT HER HURTING HER VOICE: She isn’t! She is surrounded by vocal coaches and other knowledgeable actors, and the song was lowered a bit from the original to help her out as well. She’s fine and incredibly talented

It’s all about technique. I’ve heard very healthy sounding performances from her, but also very strained ones. I haven’t seen any of her last performances, but i heard that before she left (quit...was fired, who knows) she was getting very sloppy and seemed like she didn’t care, thus it sounded very rough and unhealthy. Clearly she can do the song without a ton of strain, but 🤷🏼♀️

WOW. First of all, I am loving the score for this show so far. Secondly, I am seriously in awe of her voice!!! She is truly one of those people with a voice unlike anyone's I've ever heard, her style is so full of surprises and unique and powerful. I can't wait to hear more from this show!!!
Am I the only one who thinks that that ending was just so perfect? Like everything was timed so perfectly with the background music, her singing AND her body movements and I love it so much
This is incredible and I am obsessed but I am also wondering if anyone can attest to how healthy/sustainable this is for her vocal chords bc hoo boy that sounds painful!!
its all just the way you handle the notes and your breath control and diaphragm and stuff. You have to learn to use that part of your vocal chords to be able to do the growly type things. It doesn't actually come from the vocal chords it comes from the back of the throat. It's fairly okay for her voice but she just has to be careful
Hey! So I actually am a vocal coach and work with many musical theatre singers. When I teach belting, it’s not quite as heavy and twangy as this. This is specifically a rock/punk style of singing so it’s not really the same way a typically broadway belt song would be sung. As for if it’s healthy, it’s going to be dependent on if the singer has a good vocal hygiene routine, taking vocal rest, vocal steaming, proper cool-down, etc. Also even if she does have good vocal hygiene, sometimes roles are just more vocally taxing than others and there’s nothing that can really be done about it, the singers just have to kind of accept that after they are done with the role, they may have to go to a speech pathologist afterwards. It just depends though. Some people are just freaks of nature 😬
I haven't seen the show yet, but I was reading online, and someone said that she already sounded a little tired in the early broadway preview run compared to DC. She could've had a bad day, or it's already taking its toll =/ (or person could've been lying haha)
Nicole Gimeno just saw the musical last night. GO SEE IT. And her voice sounded amazing and not tired at all, in fact she may of sounded better than this performance.
As someone who has been a part of the making of a small musical that we made for my school there can be literally 9 different versions of a song before it's confirmed as the one to be used in the show. It's really confusing sometimes for the performers too😂
i love the broadway version, but the demo will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart, both as an amazing song and the reason i listened to beetlejuice the day the cast album was released
If they could combine the two verses of this version and the key and speed the broadway version that would be A+ but yknow You can tell from this performance vs the Bryant Park performance she has gotten so much more comfortable with the character
Indeed. I saw Her In Lazarus during its london Run Too. It’s just a shame that Her technique has changed. I’m worried that She’ll do some permanent damage. She’s one of the best vocal artists out there and She’s only young. I wish the best for Her and She deserves the world for being so humble and generally normal.
ugh sophia is a fashion icon oml her outfit here is amazing (like always) also she doesn’t look like she’s straining as much on the longer notes which makes me happy :)
The voice cracks she does sound really cool and add to the song but I hope she is applying the right techniques to keep her voice healthy. She so young and if she keeps her voice safe she should have a long successful career.
No matter how many times I listen, the sheer amount of raw emotion she portrays in this song, and all the songs of this musical, never ceases to amaze me! ❤️👑

the album is out and I can't stop listening to it. I'm from England so I can't see it and I'm devastated, but it is coming to England in 2020 so I'm over the moon!!!
I feel sorry for her for trying to slow down an up-tempo song so much. I would have turned around to the band and said, "Let's pick it up a little bit, ya?".
