The tourism industry in china is ran by local tenants and tour companies in partnership. The tour it self is generally sold at a loss, they then bring the tourists to specific shops whom are in partner ship in hopes of spending will make up the difference (which normally does). This over the years developed to if you don't spend money you will be abused by the tour company and shops in partnership. In the past it's been show tour guides will threaten to leave you behind if you don't spend money at designated locations.

Probably what happened is the two tourists were filming her playing the drums and they wanted to post it on their social media but they had no intention of paying so I think in this case all three of them are at fault. I generally agree, but one thing that struck me as odd is her saying that they were "blabbering." It makes me think she served them as a sales associate, passing other customers to help them, only for them to say that they didn't have the money. I'd be frustrated in her position. This is retail, not a museum. In the end we don't have the whole story, but what she did was clearly still poor salesmanship. Worse than poor salesmanship.

As a tourist, if I see a souvenir that catches my eye but not buying, I would just look and not touch and when shopkeeper insist of me holding, il back away and say thanks. If I hold it, means I like it but il put it down immediately if the price isnt worth it. I don't waste your time, you dont waste mine. But still, the shopkeeper is still rude and this kind of window shopping isn't new and salesperson should expect people being handsy or asking millions of questions but not buying anything. Shopkeeper should either shrug it off or learn from their mistake and gauge customers better in the future. Excellent customer service does not demand sales. @Teresa Downes Most music has drums or some form of percussion. Rock music still uses real drums for the most part.

In China, drums are special, they are use in school, festivals, ceremonies etc. it's not just an instrument to make music, is simbolic, many have them, it still a bit niche, but is not uncommon for stores to sell drums only, don't compare it with western culture.

She really lost it there and on reflection she knows she's wrong. She didn't really know if the tourists were rich or poor. She should not have used poverty as an accusation for people not buying from her. If she wanted to complain, she could have said something like, please don't waste my time if you're not really interested.
