Act II Scene 1 of the opera Pelléas et Mélisande by Claude Debussy. In the first scene of the second act, Pelléas (Jacques Imbrailo) and Mélisande (Mari Eriksmoen) meet at a fountain whose miraculous water opens the eyes of the blind. Mélisande drops Golaud's ring into the fountain.
In a perfect synergy of the arts, choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Damien Jalet, together with the legendary performance artist Marina Abramovic, stage Pelléas et Mélisande as a cosmic dream. Like Debussy through his impressionistic music, the performers and creators of this production dispense with any illustration and instead bring out the hidden emotions of the characters.

This is ridiculous. This is my favorite opera. I do not understand why this particular opera is staged so outrageously nowadays. But whatever. The singers, ensemble and conductor are all excellent

I agree. And for such a beautiful score, I'm astounded at how drab, dark and ugly virtually all modern productions are... notwithstanding the ridiculously insistent "visionary" staging. I tend to think that directors and designers get excited by the notion of a "symbolist" text, and take this as licence to be entirely non-literal in their approach to it; the result is abstraction, pretentiousness, and disconnection.

@@foreignparticle1320 Agreed. And it's too bad, because at least in my eyes, this is the only opera which tries to reflect people's ambiguous, contradictory internal states and confusing behavior; as opposed to the over the top drama and/or political statements one usually gets. (I do like opera, mind you, but this is the one that I think comes closest to being more like theater than opera.)

Lindas vozes e bela coreografia em um espaço animado por uma cenografia essencial. Que mais se pode desejar?

In the candlelit chateau, her glorious hair cascades, Like Melisande in her high tower, Her mystical ocean blue eyes rapt in unknown glades, flower of love and being be forever her flower
