One thing Texans are going to do -- put Whataburger to good use. Hurricane Beryl left more than 2.2 million CenterPoint Energy customers across the Houston area without power on Monday.
It might be like the water crisis just recently in Jackson Ms., when they were all over the Governor. But they shut up when they found out who had been put in charge of the water system.
I was 13 days without power at my house in Pearland after hurricane ike in 08 and when I talked to the crew that finally made that last connection to restore power to my neighborhood I thanked them for making the trip down to Texas all the way from Cleveland Ohio I will always remember that.
Public utilities should be run for the well being of the public. Not for profit of cooperations execs and shareholders. They will charge you for the air we breathe if you give them a chance. Take back our public utilities! Don't let them have our water.
THIS 👏👏👏🙌🏼 privatizing these institutions only make it so that their vested interest is the opposite of what the public needs from them, the very purpose for their existence in the first place smh
I used to live in Lansing MI, which has public utilities. Idk a ton about how it’s run/etc, but I do know my power ran fine even when we had massive storms or tornadoes in the area, and outages got fixed quick. now I live in southeast Michigan where DTE (like CenterPoint) owns all utilities, and their service is horrible. Last year we lost power in my area for days every time we got a bad weather, even just normal thunderstorms! and DTE (like CenterPoint) changed their outage map last year so you can’t easily see the outages anymore. And you can’t switch to a different utility provider cuz DTE (like CenterPoint) has a monopoly, so you’re just screwed. My thoughts are with the people of Houston dealing with similar problems with CenterPoint after Beryl, the derecho earlier this year, etc, it shouldn’t be like this
@@ElizabethF2222Before anyone attacks with “Governor is Repub” Yes that’s true, but the city of Houston has been ran by Democrats for over 40 years. So i’m with ya. Just seeing a lot of dopes blaming Abbott when it’s negligence on the Democratic mayors of Houston at fault.
When a citizen is going through tough times and they miss a payment, they dont hesitate to cut your power off but when they have a tough time (for example this) they want you to "understand". They dont discount for the days you're left without power, only they can have difficulties but not us.
This is what happens when public utility companies are run for the interest of profit, instead of the interest of serving the people. Stay safe everyone
@@davidbryant3532and that's why the human race isn't advancing in energy bc everything is a profit for business purposes which is a primitive mind set. Money first, humanity last. Let's not advance civilization, let's profit instead. Smh.
Watching this happen after I moved out of Houston. All I can think of now is everybody’s insurance about double again. And the permanent standby generator business should start booming soon.
Exactly. After THE GREAT ICE STORM of 3(?) years ago, 4 families in my small NE Texas town, in my small neighborhood including me, ordered Bubba Generacs that are always ready. Here, we have power outages a half dozen times each year. Our electric company is SWEPCO. Just about as good as Center Point.
They came and cut the line to our house so now,the people in the garage apt and we are without power for no reason, the rest of the road has power,we have video of us asking the lineman to help, but they werent out to do that is what they said...but they said they are out to help millions...why did they cut our working line anyway!!!!! They are scum!!
My power is on but I’m expecting a thousand dollar light bill. You know the people with power will end up paying for the people without just like what happened during the Houston Freeze
If they would get with the community they have people willing to help do the labor, now we have another storm on its way,I'm sure that's why they haven't done much....if it isn't one thing it's another!
I live in Houston now, but I am originally from Norway. in Norway our "Centerpoint" would cut all trees and vegetation close to power lines continuously to avoid these outcomes after storms. I have noticed that this is not done here and a lot of what is happening here in Houston is because of bad infrastructure and bad contractors who do not build stuff to last.
Not sure how safe that is since it rains. I'm sure they'd secure it with water proof material but not sure if it's a good idea. Back generators in every home would be better though.
@@user-kx4fu3uh6q The problem with underground power lines in floodplains is that it will cost more to repair and will take even longer to fix when there's flooding.
I mean do you really understand how many steps it would take to get money for that specifically? And then actually doing it? It's easy to just leave comments like this
We CenterPoint customers should NOT have to pay for our services since these boneheads at CenterPoint were not prepared to handle a disaster such as this! This is ridiculous!
@@Airamimosa it is, it is.. I live in an apartment and the wind and rain was hitting our windows so hard I thought they were going break. I saw the power lines swinging so hard while trees also slammed into it. I saw electricity and heard the buzzing and I knew rhe power was going to go. Several times I saw this from my window. We didn't sleep bc of it. I went out today and saw a power line pole snapped in half where a tree broke off from the force of the wind just a few feet away landing on the power lines. Right across from where that tree and pole snapped another huge tree fall on a brand new car and the car was crushed. So, I don't know how long it'll be until we get power back on. I did see those trucks arriving into Lake Jackson when I went out. Then I saw several parked at the mall parking lot. You know, we are the largest state and we can't even upgrade our power grid. Smh
@@IAmLeePeace Same, haven't been able to sleep due to how hot it is. We had some terrific hours seeing and hearing the hurricane's power and it's destruction as it was going by and to top it off having to deal with no sleep, loss of so much food from fridge n freezer, dealing with mosquito bites from having the doors &vwindows open, waste of so much gas driving different side of towns to find ice, little bit of food, waters etc daily because the ice last half of the day so once it's melted back on the streets to find more, it is insane and none of that should be happening if only CENTER POINT WOULD HAD ALL OF THE TRUCKS STATIONED AND READY SINCE SUNDAY OR MONDAY VERY EARLY MORNING!
I'm confused. What about Texas' business friendly attitude or even just generally the way this state is run - would given anyone the misconception that they would or should care? It seems to me that if you even get power back at all you should be expressing eternal gratitude.
The map Center Point Energy released last night has bad data. It shows energized lines where there is still no power and lines in the queue to be repaired where there is already power. I feel the Company is misleading the public, which could do further harm, all in an effort to put any information out to save face. They should pull this map and not mislead the public. What if a person uses the little bit of gas they have to get home because it appears they have power and when they get there they have no power and no way to refuel to leave again.
They had plenty of time to station their trucks there. And you guys have experienced that winter outage before. No excuses. Our Governor in FL had trucks ready to go when hurricane Ian came through, which hit my city (Fort Myers) badly. We had trucks from all different companies help us.
There is a fundamental breakdown of our utility system as a whole. We should never have to go through this. Hell, I remember Hurricane Alicia in 1983- now THAT was a storm yet although the power outages were massive, it (as I remember) did not seem to be this severe. Something is up here. Needs to be fixed IMMEDIATELY.
And then in the bill center point energy claims they can help u not pay a lot during this hot days .. and end up screwing u up where you pay more for something they had said they will help you .. 😢
i asked for someone to do a ted cruz app after that winter storm. to see how far away he is when a storm hits. the further away he is the worse the storm,
@@nochilllwill He's jet setting across Asia. He's making stops in South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. He canceled his plans to visit Thailand as they are not wheelchair accessible. When he made a comment about his trip and the hurricane, he defended himself in the first sentence, something like "While I am in SK putting together business deals worth billions, [I am in contact with EMS about the hell on earth conditions the people in my state are experiencing...]"
@elenataylor4611 a small generator cost 500.00...anyone can afford that. Do you consume alcohol...cigarettes...drugs...netflix...etc? If you can afford those things and other non essential items...you can take care of yourself. It's all about self preservation.
Why is it Americans are constantly about lawsuits? We get mini snow hurricanes every week in Maine for the winter, you don't see us suing because it's cold and the local town delivery truck was overturned on the way. Grow up Lone Star.
ESTOS POLITICOS SON UN CHISTE SALIERON A DECIR QUE ESTABAN YA PREPARADOS.POR EXPERIENCIAS ANTERIORES..CUANDO QUIERES USAR OTRAS COMPAÑIAS DE LUZ Y TE PREGUNTAN DONDE VIVEZ A NOOO HABLA CON CENTER POINT ELLOS TIENEN MONOPOLISADA O NO QUE DIGA ELLOS DAN EL SERVICIO EN TODAASSSSS ESAS ARRAS Y ES LO MISMO LUZ Y GAS
Well, he's actually doing something, abbot is jet setting across Asia and cruz is whale watching on the west coast, so I guess what I'm trying to say is GFY or STFU, your choice.
This is exactly why the ppl need more control of what we're paying for. This is happening way too often! We need battery backups in every house not gas or propane
I was just telling my daughter the samething yesterday. It should be mandatory for all apartments to have back up generators for stuff like this and the homes should be equipped with them too! This is ridiculous! The heat isn't like it use to be when I was growing up! Also, we aren't advancing in energy! We could have already had free energy and water all over the US but cooperate greed is setting us all back!
So this is whats going to happen... Today, Houstonians are pissed and livid because there is no power....once power is restored you guys will forget and go on about your lives just like the last freeze event. All this talk and posturing is completely worthless, just deal with it.
Tried to call to report a power line is down near my apartment since the storm and they hang up on me every time I've called. Don't know if you can call this a service.
I got power yesterday but my AC wasn’t working I live a braeswood oaks the maintenance people came at around 4 after and was told it was cool inside !! The ac had been leaking water all over the floor!! The nerve of saying it’s cool inside 😡 I drove around and I have seen so many places without lights 😢😢I feel so sad for them I almost passed out yesterday from the heat before it came back on
No 😂 blame the city managers ! 😂 no preparation ! And now a cop died . 12 yr old died ! And now you have cartels who escape the police after getting cought !
FYI - centerpoint is losing a lot of money in lost carriage fees. I’m not saying they’re perfect. I’m just saying they’re going to feel the pinch from this financially.
The Democrats made sure all the Black and Mexican neighborhoods got power. Meanwhile they picked on white people and made them suffer! All white neighborhoods are still without power and the illegals are laughing at us! Biden even gave them free stay at luxury hotels. What do you say about that? The Democrats are evil!
It seems like bandaids are used without adding new advanced systems. There's billions of dollars to go after under Justice 40 for smart grids/cities and more. What about hybrids energy system for alternative backup methods? Old money & power continues to do same old stuff. What if people actually started working together to build infrastructure and economy?
So we not going to talk about How Centerpoint is going to charge thier Customers for the Tornado And the Hurricane Damages? The AUDACITY! I think its some cheap excuse to get money from us for the days we went without using energy! Dont they have insurance for stuff like this? Everyone els has to have insurance but them?
So show of hands who’s suein or filing complaint on center point or city of Houston? Bc we have to. Not even in third world countries they do this. There was no poles knocked down or power plants knocked down. I went true all of southwest memorial, stafford , bellaire 6 sugar land not one power pole knocked down. So ask y’all selfs the same. It’s all business to these ppl. Money to money and we suffer
wheres the governor? people always want to brag about how great these gop politicians are but always overlook these power outages. oh thats right, the power companies paid him millions to shut up and let them do what they want.
@cerebrumexcrement where’s the Mayor?, where’s the city council? Where is the Federal Government? Where is the Red Cross? the church? Love the way y’all blame and then demand government handouts and outside action/interference when you’re inconvenienced. “let’s pay the Governor millions of dollars to shut up so we can do what we want “. Said no one ever….
@@sandtoy11510 Sorry greg, creating a fake account to defend yourself while you're vacationing in Asia isn't going to work. It's been three years since the devastating winter fiasco, when your buddy grandpa munster jetted off to Mexico while Texastan was frozen, and you have done nothing to make sure it never happens again. I'd say it doesn't make sense that people still vote for you but then I remember that Texastan is filled with some of the dumbest "people" on this planet.
0:33 we know nobody on the fone and he perfected the look conveying he knowing somebody on the fone but they talking real low. He think their martians. His dementia at work😂
Non sense. You cannot sell it back. Where is your generator? Why do you not have one? Why were you not prepared? If you place your survival solely in the hands of others...you will have a short life. At some point you have to take care of yourself.
@mrsparks138 that is so very true. It would help if people would take personal responsibility rather than rely on others. A small one time investment and they would never worry about electricity. They prefer to smoke it...drink it...or waste it on non essential things
I have Entergy and we have no electricity. Btw President Biden couldn't get a hold of Abbott he's in Asia and Cruz left and is whale watching we once again we are abandoned when we needed these useless men. We need a change. Vote 💙
Biden cant do anything either, the only people who can do anything about this situation are the respective companies workers, just let them work, they already get enough pressure from their bosses to put up with during these situations, other people bothering them while they're trying to work is just going to slow them down, also keep your bs politics out of this, politicians cant do a thing except complain about what "needs" to be done and never actually do anything.
Racing??? They Should have been Staged!! Shut tf up Centerpoint. You filled your pockets and left us in the lurch! In the 3rd largest Metropolitan area in the U.S. Be. Ashamed!!!!
