Most people who can run generally don't because they don't want to give up the comfortable positions they hold either as some career congressman or senators. Unless it's a guaranteed win and they are at the end of their careers it's generally not worth the effort. What happened to trump will put off any rich political outsiders from ever trying again.

Because those with all the money and power don't want the people to have an actually decent candidate. Republicans are paid to be awful and Democrats are paid to be weak. We have a similar problem here - Tories are awful and Labour are weak.

On the other hand, having Trump as the commander would be actually scary. His economic plan would trash the US economy and the Dollar, not a single fortune 500 CEO endorses Trump. He would allow Putin to have free reign in eastern Europe, and would do the same in Asia.
