For 12 years, Michelle Lyons - first as a newspaper reporter, then as a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice - witnessed every execution carried out by the state. After witnessing her first execution at the young age of 22, Michelle saw almost 300 men and women die on the gurney by lethal injection. After detailing her story in her memoir ‘Death Row: The Final Minutes’, Michelle joins us now to tell her story.

Why does America think execution is exceptable?.. It is not humaine. Crime is high in America. Has the use of lethal injection had an effect on crime? If not why? If not then it needs to be looked at. The focus should be supporting the family who has lost the loved one. It's animalistic revenge to kill the perpetrator.. Suport to the family who lost someone they loved. People who caused the crime. 100% they should be punished and tought how to live better and behave. Value themselves and everyone. Psychological, emotional, educational support should be provided to both parties. Normally we can not comment. So thank This Morning

Their crime is high due to their gun laws not death penalty. I agree with the death penalty is a good way to get rid of crap of society this is how people have been dealt with for thousands of years.

Ruby Kaur I totally agree. Many years ago, when I was too young to understand all the implications, I have to admit I was for the death penalty. Two films changed my mind - the first was 10 Rillington Place, based on the true story of Timothy Evans, who was wrongly accused and hanged. He was posthumously pardoned. Not much consolation to him or his family. 🙁 For someone who is innocent to be sentenced to death is terrible beyond words, and sadly happens not infrequently. So many poor black men, who can't afford good legal representation, get wrongly accused and killed. The other film was Dead Man Walking. It showed the anguish of the family of the condemned man, which was an aspect I'd never considered before, but I realised that two families were suffering terribly, not just the family of the victim. How does that benefit anyone? It also made me see that cold blooded, state sanctioned killing is morally reprehensible, just as bad as an individual committing a murder IMHO. The saying "An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind" is so true.

way too much trouble. if people did something that got them a death sentence they're out of reach, so why should we pay for them living a life behind bars. money could be spent on education or healthcare instead of keeping murders alive. I also think everybody that gets a long sentence should be offered the opportunity to get executed instead.

Damn! That has to be one of those jobs were you need to have a strong stomach for!! I have sometimes wondered if people who work at (or on) death row, do they ever get haunted by the spirits of those put to death? Weird question, I know. Just something I sometimes wondered. Depending if you are someone who believes in the paranormal.
