Were any of us here during slavery? Fact, California had no slaves. California joined the Union in 1850 as a free state (funny how that changed). Slavery was outlawed from the start by its state constitution.

What about all the Poles, Lithuanians, Irish, and others who endured their own forms of slavery (indentured servitude, the company store, etc.)? Where are THEIR reparations?

My family never owned slaves. Some of my family members died at Gettysburg. They are buried nearby. Find someone else to blame. Do I receive reparations for my lost family members???

My great great grandfather died in the civil war fighting to free the slaves. Do I deserve reparations? Also, my response to the gentleman who stated that black people were put into two generations of poverty: Over the last ninety years our federal and state government has paid trillions in benefits to disadvantaged people.

Just because you may be black doesn’t mean you descended from slaves. CA wasn’t even a slave state & not part of the Civil War. Many in the USA immigrated here long after the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korean War, VietNam War, Afghan/Iraq Wars. We shouldn’t have to pay for sins of the 1800’s.

My family’s first ancestor to come over was an “indentured servant” (white slave) although they did “earn” their freedom and then continued on to earn money to buy land, which they purchased directly from Native Americans in R.I. I think our family never held slaves because they understood… I often wonder if they had been Quakers, just knowing the values that have continued through the many generations. It totally befuddled me hearing this garbage about reparations, because I am keenly aware of the fact that not all whites had slaves and not all slaveholders were white, so there is no way, even if one believes that the children should pay for sins of their ancestors, to be sure who owes whom. There would be some Black folks, for sure, paying out to others. There’s no way it could be fair without spending more money on research than it would be worth to those who are “owed”. No, the better solution, is to just help people work their way out of the financial struggles we face today… pour some good old brotherly love on our neighbors of whatever race or ethnicity. In today’s social and economic struggles, we all could stand a little more love.❤
