How can anyone bring team accomplishments into a player vs player debate, Gerrard finished 2nd in the ballon d’or, 8 PFA TOTY, 2x England POTY in their golden generation, 3X UEFA TOTY and could be a world class player in multiple positions KDB top 5 OAT but to see people saying he’s ‘clear’ of Gerrard is ridiculous.

De Bruyne is brilliant and may very well end up as the best. But the lack of appreciation for Gerrard is mental imo. I think there is a bias for players who have more continental styles of play, and the fact that Gerrard is so physically overpowering as a midfielder is harder to appreciate. But the mental thing is that on top of being fast, strong and a brilliant tackler, Gerrard has a heck of a ping on him and could cross with the best of them. He has so many iconic moments and is as complete a midfielder there's every been in the history of football.

Problem with our generation is we can’t appreciate active players for their greatness over past players. We always seem to have this bias for legends. KDB if he keeps playing at his current rate will easily be best midfielder of all time when his career is all said and done. Ancelotti isn't tactically all that great but he knows how to utilize his best players. He has done it with milan and his first Madrid stint. In game management, tactical play, rotation aren't his strong suits but he can turn a 5 goal benzema into a 40 goal benzema. He knows what to do with the big names, the game changers. There is a reason he has won so much.

😐 As a Madrid fan, I have to say Faysal's take on Ancelotti is so one-sided. He COMPLETELY ignores the fact that Ancelotti has turned Vini into one of the best players on the planet. Criticise him all you want Faysal, but at least admir that he unlocked Vini in a way Zidane couldn't. With the resources at our disposal this season, that's a huge W that could pay dividends for the next decade. Faysal acts as if Vini was already this guy before Ancelotti got here. He was NO WHERE NEAR. Not everything a coach does is about "tactics". Man management can change a player's whole life.

De Bruyne, right now, has surpassed most all time midfielders in the PL except Lampard and Gerrard. Once he retires, he will be the greatest of all time.

I usually agree with faysal’s points, even as a Barca fan. But that take was awful, he also said many wrong facts, madrid in the 16 to 18 seasons won 3 ucls, one la liga and one super cup. In 17/18 they were horrible in la liga, got 3rd place. Not to mention the season after that they went trophy less and got 3rd place again. During pep’s era we won back to back to back la ligas and two ucl’s, plus 2 copa del Rey’s and 2 super cups. I am not being biased but I don’t think it should even be a debate.

KDB already is the best midfielder to ever play in the Prem. Not even close to be honest

KDB's vision and passing range is absolutely unique. His assist montage alone is just absolutely special. And honestly, doesn't even need to look and doesn't need any space to assist: check out his assist for Jesus against Real first leg 19/20. Extremely two footed. Most long range goals in the PL since he joined. Extremely good ball progression. Extremely hard worker/strong press. The guy has literally everything. Out of all the "best PL midfielders in history" he's by far the most complete.

Put Kdb in some of those horrible Liverpool teams Gerrard played in while in his prime and put Gerrard in the current Man City squad. I dont like Gerrard but the disrespect he gets on the show is unreal lol

Might as well join the debate. KDB is incredible, and there is no question he's up there with Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard in terms of all time greats in the Premier League. He is very much a complete midfielder in the sense that he controls games so well, on both ends of the pitch. I would also claim that he is the best passer in world football right now.

For me KDB is different but the best I love that playing style that drive he has a bit similar to Lampard and Stevie but there is just something about him that makes him a bit extra special

KDB is what Gerrard would be if he was in a good team, they are so similar and both are top 2 in PL history, I'd give Gerrard the edge because of longevity and defensive ability.

His silky smooth running with the ball, his delivery better than Beckham in terms of crossing with both feet & from any position/situation on the field, terrific first touch/ball control with an IQ among the greats, can strikes with both feet precession/power & techniques. A true maestro & a general in midfield plus the man has Prince Harry’s looks

Comparing chelsea to real madrids champions league is flawed. The fact they did it three times in a row removed any element of luck. It’s the closest any team has come to winning a super league, Real Madrid basically showed they could beat any top team no matter what style of football that team played. If you only win it once you avoid certain teams.

Winning 3 UCL's in a row is fucking ridiculous. I wouldn't be surprised if it never happens again in my lifetime. But simply because it's so much variance. Count the amount of wrong offside/refereeing decisions Real needed to make that three-peat happen. Half of it was down to sheer luck. They got through via luck vs clearly better teams (like the Bayern team in 2018). How can you call that a "dynasty"? It's hard to call any kind of success in the UCL a "dynasty" anyways bc: you only play a handful of teams. And a different handful each time. City got to the finals last season playing Gladbach, Dortmund and PSG. That's it. Liverpool this season got to the finals playing Benfica and Villarreal. How do you turn that into a "dynasty". You have to dominate your league - 38 games vs more or less the same set of 19 opponents over several yeas. Barca didn't just do that. They also dominated the football meta. Every relevant team either tried to play like them or tried to find a way that works against them. That's a true dynasty. People talk to this day about the football Pep's Barca played. I've never heard anyone talk about how that three-peat Real team actually played. Wouldn't be that much to rave about I assume, considering their "style of play" got them out of the title race by January already in one of those seasons.

Hot take - as well as internationals, how cool would a tournament that was best of leagues playing each other, so prem vs serie A, bundesliga, la liga etc.

There are so many factors that come into play such as who is De Bruyne playing with and who Gerrard played with and I think that is the biggest one in my opinion. Gerrard won the Champions League with an average Liverpool team against arguably the best AC Milan team ever. De Bruyne is in a team of superstars who make the runs, assist him and and give him the ball even though he has that world class quality it is tainted by how amazing the squad is in my opinion.

I agree with his statements on Ancelotti not being the best manager and I also want him gone after the season, but saying he's not good is a lie. Tactically it's his son who's superior, Carlo himself is more of a man manager he speaks and motivates and keep a good vibe in the squad. Let's not forget Benz hated Vini at one point he literally said "he's playing against us" they are actually decent friends now at least on the pitch. saying KDB above Gerrard is so outrageous, Gerrard was special man. made the Team of the century in an era where football peaked, he made the most out of what he had even during the decline of liverpool he always stood out and carried. the guy was a pure midfielder throughout, very well balanced. he could attack, create and defend, there’s was pretty much very low flaws in his game. the truth is KDB Won’t even be top 5 midfielders in the prem of all time, there’s no way. Difficult to compare kdb to Gerrard as they don't play the same and Gerrard played cm, cdm, 10, rm and rb and played all positions at the highest level. Lampard is a better comparison as they both play/played for elite teams with elite players in a more advanced midfield role. Lampard is more clutch but kdb is more technically gifted

People saying how KDB wins games for Man City, they would be in contention for every trophy every year without KDB. Gerrard singlehandedly carried Liverpool to a UCL, something KDB is yet to do with the most expensive squad ever assembled…
