@@commontater1785 True, if you have ever met Jewish people in their own community you’ll learn quickly that they have a much higher opinion of their own people than anyone else. They are “gods chosen people” after all.

Yesterday I watched a video on the France 24 channel about a particular settlement in the West Bank, and it made me think of the US during the time of the KKK. They showed really petty behavior like setting fire to crops, taking down the flag of the nearby Palestinian village, angry guard dogs, etc. It looked out of what you imagine to have been happening in 1950s Alabama or something. Just very ugly behavior.

@@ahmeda.3198 And here's one more thing that the 2 movements may have in common. Despite that in hindsight the success of the American Civil Rights Movement seems to have been inevitable, I'm pretty sure it didn't always seem that way. I personally feel that specifically, many Americans today have to have more faith in their ability to change things.

@@ilirllukaci5345 I agree, and already things are changing. All of this brutality against Palestinians has been happening for decades. I always assumed it was just racism as to why Americans went along with it or ignored it. That may be part of it, but I am also realizing that people truly did not understand what was happening there. Americans and people around the world are just now realizing what has been happening and that it has been suppressed or mischaracterized for a very long time. I think also that this generation of young people have been exposed to other cultures and are not so susceptible to the xenophobia and caricatures that have been used in the past to justify animosity towards some other group. Yesterday I went to the laundromat and saw two different people wearing keffieyehs. One red and white and the other maybe orange and black, I don’t remember. These were not middle eastern people, but I believe they were wearing them as a show of solidarity. How many times did this country either conduct or directly support bombing of other people. Even this grotesque war against Vietnam they used napalm and Agent Orange. The people were told it was necessary, and so the people went along with it. The younger generation understands that all of this death and destruction is not necessary, but is in fact a profitable business. I have so much respect for these young people today. This same brutality has been happening all my life, but within the past few years there has been some ‘critical mass’ of awareness achieved, that people are saying no more and not in my name. It’s incredible to think about how all of this was just businesses as usual until this current generation. I don’t think these people, themselves, even realize that what they are doing is monumental and has shocked so many of us in finally seeing humanity in this group of people who have historically been dehumanized.

​@@ahmeda.3198 You said it better than I could have. With one caveat. The United States needs a strong military. And the American military industrial complex is, if you will, a necessary evil. A "necessary evil" , that General Eisenhower, my father's favorite president (and btw apparently no slave to Israel), warned Americans, during the height of the Cold War, could get out of hand. But here's the distinction in my mind. These crimes committed by the Israeli government, and our American support for them, is transparently an "unnecessary evil". It is a rare confluence of the immoral and the illegal and the abjectly stupid.
