Would love to hear a conversation between Dhruv Rathi and Dr. Rajan. Their take on the current stance of our nation.

Vir Sanghvi never asked uncomfortable questions about subsidies during UPA government and oil companies were in the red and Oil bonds were given left right and centre and it was left to the present government to bear the brunt of redeeming these bonds. He was the RBI Governor under PC when all loans were given to undeserving business men who are now at large.

By reading negative comments about RR, that means he is right person. In india everyone is ecomist. Like how we comment on cricket... When person want to serve country coming from good background, faces lot more challenges, people call him idiot, he is not economist ... when someone talks against this government, they are illiterate, idiots, anti national.... come on.. grow up...

When I was in government... no man.... you were never in government, RBI governor is not government

Too many PhD degrees are being given casually by many universities and this has diluted the degree. Further, lots of people in India do BA and MA and even PhD in local languages. Where are the jobs for these people going to come from. I met many people in Bangalore whose kids have done MA in Kannada and the only jobs they can think of is in Karnataka government which is again hard to get. In north India there is a plethora or Hindi degrees.

He remembers the economy as it was in 2013. Not the economy of 2024.

RR was dead against the Prudential Norms promulgated by RBI on 1 July 2015 under which for the first time in Banking History it was made compulsory for Banks to provide for NPAs in stead of putting them under the Carpet. He was forced by the Government to promulgate the Prudential Norm. Obviously, he became angry!!! As he was against the official NPA Norms, he was not given extension in 2016. He was championing the cause of Defaulting Borrowers for which he stood against the Prudential Norms from being promulgated. He had to agree or quit when the Government would have exposed him.

If you poke your nose in politics by taking sides in your lecture, you will face the same.

the actual PHD gate watchman job at RBi should have been given to Raghuram Rajan but he got lucky and got the main seat inside RBI and his PHD and CIA asset classes screwed it up at least other PHD’s are getting a much better peon job … so one should thank Raghuram Rajan for his kindness 👍

I disagree with RR's view on chip manufacturing. We should have done this long ago. I used to work for Philips Semiconductors in mid 90's and Philips approached the India govt then to invest $ 2 bn and they found it so, so difficult. Chip designer opportunity could be a low hanging fruit, but saying we don't want to be in chip manufacturing is downplaying in this important space. When Samsung was investing in chip manufacturing in 90s we at Philips were all laughing, because it required so much Capex, but we know how Korea re-wrote history in manufacturing by becoming globally competitive and addressing the risk.

I agree with the larger point that we need to safeguard capitalism from greedy capitalists. The hemming and hawing of DRR is a clear give away. Being a non-political functionary in the government he had no role to air his political views something none of his predecessors did. He could have simply resigned. That would have been more honest and forthright. I buy none of his clarifications and I see no reason for VS to raise dust on settled issues. Just giving away himself as a Khan market gangster. Hello, VS Modi will be back.

The only place I can contest Dr Rajan on one to one terms is the stock market. Sensex was 4000 when UPA 1 opened and 21000 by November 2007 so 5x. Well it was also 15500 in September 2013, 6 years later and only beginning to gain traction when Modi candidature or more like his prime minister ship was confirmed given the shambles UPA 2 was in. Sensex approached 76000 just yesterday. India was fragile five in September 2013. I agree with him that the government is giving unnecessary multi billion dollars subsidies to behemoths but his nuances on some very shady characters, I mean an equally compelling case can be made that the easiest way to mk a buck right now is to become an anti modi globalist stooge and let the money spigots flow.. I have 2 PhDs becoming entrepreneurs!! Opened startups in manufacturing. The government is giving so much of support in several ways including financial, to such people so why should everyone hanker for only jobs? Start your own enterprise and _give employment_ to others of your ilk, can you not?

Regarding Rahul Gandhi, I know at least three instances of Rahul Gandhi's inadequacy: 1) Rahul Gandhi saying `Unfortunately I am a member of the parliament...' and Jairam Ramesh advising him. 2) Rahul Gandhi saying in an oxford discussion that Jaishankar doesn't know external affairs. When the questioner asked him what will he do differently with China, he had no answer. 3) A video comparing Annamalai and Rahul Gandhi's takes on artificial intelligence is going viral. Rahul Gandhi talks about Iraq 152mm shells etc and nothing about the AI. Annamalai starts with an anecdote on how the AI is impacting hiring processes. He confesses that he is not an expert, but knows it will have a huge impact. From all accounts, Rahul Gandhi is a nice guy personally, but not good enough to lead the country.

Indian economy growing around 8%. People have no idea how many jobs have been created, how many start ups, how many entrepreneurs, have risen. Roads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Airports, Sea ports, fast modern trains, stations, Airline companies buying more planes, Digital India, smart cities, more AIIMS, IITs, Management Colleges. Stock Market at at a high level. 100 tonnes of Indian gold repatriated, record remmitances by diaspora investing in India, FDI coming in IT sectors like semi conductor chips, EV batteries manufacturing. next term will focus on this sort of high paying high skill jobs. The fact is not that we are denying this, but that the INC alternative is not even a real alternative at all. The answer is not to not make highways etc. When he talks he is talking as an elitist. He doesn't realize the importance of highways etc. We deserve a better opposition. Let the opposition emerge from within BJP itself. They're more capable of opposing themselves.

RaghuramRajan not impressive and clear cut in his talks. Dont know why he talks in a laggard way. Good his term was not extended. Our economy really improved after he was out. Now we are crossing $4 trillion economy and soon 3rd largest to be. Inflation is in control and over 250 million people out of poverty.

The second part of "jist" VS listed was exactly what RR mentioned in this interview earlier.. and then he backtracked on them.. Can't wait to see Raghuram Rajan in Congress soon.

I do not complete agree and disagree with his views. One last thing to say is do not align with any govt or criticize by Comparison just give the numbers as an econonist and stay neutral with facts. You are doing exactly the opposite and Mr. RR has aligned himself with Congress and anti bjp by his views and belief. What did he expect in real world everything is not colorful, it is all black and white and grey. As an economist he should be netural presenting facts like his predecesors. Mr Duvvuri Subbarao (RBI Governor under UPA) is a classic example. Somehow after listening to this interview and his recent behavior I have some gut feeling that he intends to join politics. Mr. Sanghvi on the other side should set aside his liberal views and conduct the interview with neutral aspect. Raise more positive and negative sensible questions.

He mentions the high growth that China had achieved in earlier decades...but forgets to mention that it is due to the autocratic nature of the regime. Towards the end he says that for faster growth India needs a stronger democracy. Does he see a fully democratic government growing at 10% which he recommends in today's environment? Also, if the democracy was so good in the congress rule , why did we suffer a Hindu rate of growth for decades?

Why the growth wasn't 10 % in Congress regime in comparison to poor countries?

I watched him with open mind that’s why I’m criticising him. Watch again his body language and his defence he wants to project him self as a victim of bjp politics but he himself enter the politics and congress ecosystem! His choice of words! Giving interviews to Rahul Gandhi ! Praising Gandhi family! Talking about Dhruv rather!! Doing minority rant! India has many RBI governors but no one does politics the way RR does! If RR try to interfere in political affairs then he can’t act like innocent bureaucrat! I hope you will consider my observation with open eyes! He could argue that Gandhi family has high jacked the congress party and Rahul was born with a silver spoon and a 4rth generation dynast but according to him Rahul is brave for continuing his political career and power ambitions!!! Rajan was more interested in politics than RBI governor job. He wanted to prove his credentials as Gandhi family bhakt.

The RBI is NOT an independent government institution like the U.S. Federal Reserve. Nowhere as independent. So, when Rajan crossed Modi and the FM (by getting into issues outside the jurisdiction of a central bank Governor) he got fired. There are limits to one’s independence in a bureaucracy. In fact, such limits exist in almost all bureaucracies, including the IMF.

Rajan made a stout defence of himself in this interview, primarily because Vir was not incisive in his questioning. If memory serves me right, Rajan was brought to heel by Dr Subramanian Swamy! Swamy is or at least was, an intellectual giant and he saw Rajan unfit for for the top job in RBI.

To create jobs political parties need to have capitalist mind but unfortunately not all parties share this ideology. Indian politics is only grabbing the power by hook or crook! Education system need to change.

Besides he accords no importance to the new geo politics which will affect supply chain for all industries esp. auto, Solar, Pharma etc where China presently calls the shots. Risk mitigation is a must as even USA may weaponize Chips ( like it is doing with $ and SWIFT) in future

Dr. Rajan's proposal may sound naive and idealistic, aiming to skip industrialization and directly achieve high-end industries. However, he is merely using an optimistic tone to convey a pessimistic reality to Indian: the door of industrialization and globalization has already being closed for India . It's like a family of five trying to escape a village engulfed in flames; the bus that could accommodate all five of them has already left and is accelerating away. The family could choose to desperately chase the bus together, but the outcome would be dire for everyone. Dr. Rajan's suggestion is to decisively grab a motorcycle, allowing the two most promising family members to escape, even though this means the remaining three are doomed. This way, they can at least preserve a glimmer of hope for the family's future. India now have a harsh reality to confront.

In that case Mr. Rajan, let Rahul Gandhi once again face an interview with Arnab.

Apparently, it is quite easy to get a PhD. India is producing PhDs who can't put across their ideas and often people do PhD when they can't compete in the job market, meaning they are already declared unfit by the market. People hope degrees will get them the job but alas market wants skills along with the degrees.

It's an insular country as well as a country that is deeply obsessed with controlling the world, there is relative freedom in America which is also running the largest surveillance state in the world. 12) American Empire don't care much outside of Power, Control, Money and Influence 13) America is a country that is run by lobbies (pimps) as if America is a hooker for sale. 14) America is a completely upside down country where Red is Republican and Blue is Democrat, in other countries Communism is Red and Conservatism is Blue. 15) America is a completely upside down country where Hand Egg throwing Competition is called American Football and people insist you to call a Liquid GAS. 16) America is a global bully and nuisance. 17) America is tolerated by everyone and respected by no one. 18) America is Run by Liars, Crooks, Thugs, Murders and Pseudo intellectuals, and all those things are verifiably true.

Qualification is different from knowledge and skill sets. If you really like it, please do see jasbir Bhatti's comedy serial about PhD. Our education system for the lower strata of our people is compromised in all ways. Please do better research before discussing on matters where you need better understanding.

Mr raghuram rajan, don't bark from foreign soil. Come to NEW INDIA n open your eyes wide open. If UPA N RBI reform n cleaning our systems when you're RBI GOVERNOR, our country will be in much better position. Don't sell your dignity from foreign soil. Nobody will respect/accept your voice if you continue like this.
