This man, for his feature film debut, delivered an absolute MASTERPIECE. Shawshank Redemption is as perfect, as sad, as beautiful, as good feeling as can possibly be. It's practically flawless.

It's only just dawning on me that Darabont is responsible for one of humanity's greatest films. You can think it's over rated or not as substantial as other "great" films, but the fact it's reached SO many people is really something to behold. There's films that have beautifully deconstructed the human condition in so much more detail, but the sheer appreciation of this film might say so much more about us.

Not just Shawshank, The Green Mile was a massive box office success and is still regarded as an all-time great film, The Mist is incredibly well-regarded among horror fans and me in particular, and he freaking created The Walking Dead (which he unfortunately had taken away from him)

The two most powerful types of stories are those that hold a mirror to humanity and those who inspire humanity to do better with hope (fairytales). SHAWSHANK DOES BOTH.

I'm Irish but I'm glad he went with Morgan Freeman for the character Red. I don't think anyone could have played him as well, certainly none better. Tim Robbins was perfect in the lead. He is convincing as an unassuming and seemingly very vulnerable man who turns out to be the bravest and toughest of them all. This was also the first time since I watched Gandhi, that the audience cheered after a movie which only happened one other time that I remember and that was for Close Encounters.

Shawshank is one of the greatest films ever made, hands down. I stopped watching The Walking Dead mid-way through season 2 after Darabont was fired. Really want him to make another film or series but I've heard he's not easy to work with and has burned too many bridges. 😕
@calebbraunsroth2164

He actually attempted reprising a Civil War film based on an old Stanley Kubrick project. It was said to have Ridley Scott on board as a producer for the film as well. Darabont even claimed it was the most beautiful thing he had ever written in his whole career. Only problem was that no studio in Hollywood wanted to help make the film happen. It saddened him and it saddens me that filmmaking and cinematography are becoming less about making art and more about making money. Though he may be a demanding filmmaker, you have to admire a true artist's creative vision.

I was in this movie, and had some of the most amazing times on the set. I was a corecon, and having spent so much time on set and helping with small but critical points, this man asked for me to help direct. I quote " some1 get this man a chair !", Frank said. Morgan Freeman trotted across the room, grabbed Tim Robbins chair set it beside Frank and made a hand gesture to sit. I looked at Morgan and said That's Tim's chair. He said, "the man said get you a chair..." I was like 😵 okaaay. I sat down, Mr Darbonte laid the script in my hands and said what next ? I'm liket are you kidding me !? He responds with, "look you caught several mistakes I missed, i said if I need as much help on this as possible so please work with me, not against me". And so it was, I sat behind the camera with this man for maybe 2 weeks before I finally began to lose it. That has to be one of the most mentally challenging positions to occupy. I can't say thank you enough to Frank for that once in a life time opportunity he granted me. Thank you, kind sir ! And at thr end of the shoot Frank had told me he wanted to do something special for me. So he comes in on like the last day or 2 of the shoot and brings eith him a stack of movie scripts for me to try out, a plane ticket and a set of keys to what now is a very famous beach house in Cali. The extents of my appreciation couldn't be shown. This was so mind blowing for me. Unfoortunately I had prior engagements that requires my presence as I explained to him and really did not want to say no or disrespect him and his offer. It was a bitter sweet and irreplaceable time in life. Again I can't thank Mr Darbonte enough for being such a kind man. Working with him, and that whole cast and crew in fact, was a total privilege, I am honored to have had that opportunity !

@Loosesapphire5135
@Loosesapphire5135 2 года назад
@@kyleharry6758 when I was on shawshank he was still at that lower level, as this film had not catapulted him to the top of directing. I know several people who are famous & wealthy, & not at all the same now as they were before. I recall Frank telling me, once this was done he'd need to go to rehab. Not for drugs or anything like you'd think, but for the toll the 8+ months took on him. He said "I'll be completely physically exhausted from the stress, no rest, it's my life until it's done". This was in response to my telling him I needed a break from behind the camera after only a couple weeks. I wasn't able to make good decisions, & it was beyond stressful, I couldn't sleep, the script & scenes were always in your mind especially once you went to bed 😣 This is why I give him such credit, as i had 1st hand experience with what it required to shoot that movie... & I had to step away from the camera, where Frank had no option as it was his baby to birth. Makes me think of the story he told 1 day on set, of Rob Reiner calling multiple times to convince Frank to sell out his seat as director 😂 Frank has to tell that story.

apparently AMC didn't gave him his 280 million cut, He sighed the project as the showrunner/main writer. but they locked him as a executive producer and they were doing whatever they want, they also lowered the budget just to make more episodes... personally I believe on Frank in this. since this is not really a surprise, AMC has many lawsuits over the years, it's proves that they are just a greedy scum company. I hope Frank will win the lawsuit and come back in the industry again
