Kōrero around the new history in schools curriculum is driving more people to better understand our nation’s history. Subscribe to Re: bit.ly/subscrib...
You can now walk in the shoes of Māori who were attacked by colonial forces during one of the bloodiest battles of the Land Wars in Waikato.
Replica trenches used during the Battle of Rangiriri in 1863 have opened to the public. And it’s already drawing large crowds - as more New Zealanders search for a deeper understanding of our nation’s history.
“I believe it is a type of healing, particularly for those who are learning the history of this place.”
This is part of our reo Māori series, Ohinga, created byMahi Tahi Media , with funding from Te Māngai Pāho and the NZ On Air Public Interest Journalism Fund.
Stay tuned for a new episode every week.

Warriors, human kind have always fought against each other. Looking back you think with the values and understanding of todays world, doing this doesn’t help you understand the real history correctly. Most people don’t understand that

We have all had family that have died in war and land taken from us why do Maori always want us to feel sorry for them. The British saved the land and people there was nothing on this land and the iwi where attacking each other long before the European people came long before. The British brought food and farming which saved the people. We need to thank them but thats not told our children in schools.
