It angers me so much when a hospital or doctor says the pain is in the person's head. I know a young woman who was in her twenties when she started experiencing excruciating pain. Doctors tried to tell her it was in her head. She didn't give up. She finally got her diagnosis. She had an extremely rare cancer. Fortunately one physician in our city was well informed on this cancer and knew how to proceed. She fought a long and hard battle. Sadly the cancer finally won that battle after nine years a few weeks ago. She leaves behind a loving son and husband. Doctors who just say it's all in your head need to rethink why they should practice medicine. Their job is to help people heal or at least treat them to a level to manage life as best as humanly possible. My heart goes out to this dear family. I hope she will be able to find qualified, compassionate, capable physicians for the rest of her life.

As a CRPS sufferer of 5 years, i hope this family gets justice! No doctor or hospital should ever handle patient care with such cruelty! CRPS is extremely serious and painful and should not be taken lightly! I've seen both sides of fantastic doctors and negligent doctors on this condition and luckily am able to get treatment. Sadly, some neglect their oath of "do no harm" and even lie on medical records

My niece has had this disease for about 15 years. Her original injury that caused the CRPS was a fall from a climbing rope during high school p.e. class. The teacher had not placed any mats under the rope to cushion anyone falling.

Parents: I don’t think most of you realize how easily this could happen to us; to you! They medically kidnapped this little girl. A girl who had years and years of medical records proving she had this disease. This hospital needs to pay. The “doctors” who did this need to pay. Unfortunately, even if they were awarded all of the money in the world, none of it can bring back Maya’s precious mother. 😢

As a CRPS survivor. As we all are who live with this horrific and painful disease. I am horrified by the callous disregard of these Drs. I understand that not every Dr knows about CRPS but that does not condone their behavior towards this family and to this girl who as a young age was dealing with pain that most people would not have been able to. There is a reason they call this the suicide disease. I hope this brings more awareness to CRPS. I also hope that there is justice to this family for the callous behavior behavior and disregard John Hopkins had towards this family

So, please just don't. That kid should not be in this trial right now. None of this should be happening.

The defence never seems to mention that they were ultimately WRONG in their suspected diagnosis, which was that the CRPS was all in Maya’s head & that it was therefore Munchhausen by proxy. That incorrect diagnosis is what lead DCF/CPS to get involved in the first place…so yes, the hospital is responsible for this. Also, they are saying they charged the hospital’s insurance for CRPS, which they flat out denied in their diagnosis of Maya…and the defence is saying that regardless of what the diagnosis was that they were reimbursed for the services & treatment provided to Maya. Who cares what the reimbursement was?! Ultimately, the hospital made the incorrect diagnosis to begin with, gaslighted Maya & her parents (especially the mum), and then got the state involved in taking over custody & refusing to allow Maya’s mother to see her at all and labelling her mother a danger to Maya. This lead to Maya’s mother’s suicide. The hospital making the incorrect diagnosis to begin with, and then insisting on treating Maya as per the same incorrect diagnosis for 3 months is the catalyst for DCF being involved to begin with and the whole saga that followed. DCF can only go according to the hospitals diagnosis that this was Munchhausen by proxy. However , the hospital’s carelessness to simply diagnose Maya with Munchhausen, and their failure to continue to investigate other possible diagnoses in the 3 months she was held captive by the state & hospital is pure recklessness. I hope the hospital gets buried for this and that all the doctors involved in incorrectly diagnosing Maya have their medical license taken away from them.

Dfcs/cps hire people that get trained and thrown in the field and giving promotions to people supervisory decisions that make these decisions. Her mother left this world so Myah could return home, a tragedy, look at all the trials online with DCFS/Cps involvement and the children are killed, because caseworkers didn't protect them, it needs to change, I a mandated reporter in my work, but I will have facts before jumping to conclusions based on bias. I would like to know a little more about why the mother checked herself out of her hospital (after having her baby) to go to a hospital to be able to give blood for her baby. 1. Was this a rare blood type that was not attainable by the hospital? Was it necessary that she do that? 2. The hospital wouldn't let her give blood because she hadn't recovered from having the child yet so did she lie to the other hospital about having just given birth or did the hospital not have a policy in place. It would seem like if it was a rare blood type then the hospital would leave it up to her as to whether she would want to give.

His explanation of her “giving blood” did not do it justice. Thrombocytopenia has to be treated by stem cell/bone marrow platelets and most likely she was his only match to his blood or marrow typing. It was not as simple as just rolling up her sleeve. They take this from your bone and it takes the donors body a month to replace, and much longer for a donor who just gave birth. If the lawyer had of explained it correctly, he would have made it clear that Biata saved her babies life while risking her own health and didn’t think twice doing it. JUSTICE FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!

High level synopsis: Maya started having unexplained pain as a young child. Her mom did everything she could to figure out what was going on. They went to a doctor that prescribed them s treatment of meds that finally helped stop the pain. I believe she ended up going to a local hospital due to an issue and when the mother told them what she was taking for her pain, those doctors at the hospital thought it was too excessive. So they pretty much labeled her mom a Munchhausen by proxy caretaker. The hospital staff used the courts to keep her mom away from the daughter (who was forced to stay at the hospital for months) for so long that ultimately the mom committed suicide.

This defense attorney is trying to flip the evidence. This kid had a rare syndrome before the Ketamine. The symptoms were there BEFORE the Ketamine. Ketamine was the only thing that worked. The reasons why she gained a measly 4 pounds was because of containment. Its typical that that doctors do not like anything that is outside of there practice. Its typical that DCF has absolutely no medical training. Now they are stating that DCF (a social worker) is now the main doctor. This defense attorney keeps flipping back and forth who kept her there. The CPS doctor is definitely not an expert in anything. They have become a disappointment in this day and age.

Wait…so mom was a nurse?? Specifically, an infusion nurse?! I’m sorry, but it sounds like to me that the mom may have ended it due to fear of being exposed, & going to jail. Maybe she was giving her daughter ketamine all along, but then ran out, which triggered withdrawals, which CAN cause pain. I think this is a more mild case of “Gypsy Rose” similarities.

Iv ketamine would never be given at home. No pharmacy would be able to fill it for a family even if she was a nurse. Plus when you give ivs at home other iv supplies are needed thst can really only be obtained thru an iv nursing company like a home care co. The only way Beata would have gotten the supplies was to steal them from her job. BUT It would be a significant amount of supplies. Iv insertion kits, heparin flushes, tubing , iv machine , saline flushes etc. so it’s not so easy as you think.

The reality to me, is that they should never allow those types of ''trials" if they're just going to give the patient a ''cure" they cannot access once the program is over. There are so many things wrong with this case which highlight the insane cracks in the medical system. And if the child was in a come and clearly her legs were still turned in as we saw in the evidence presented, how can you possibly still say she was faking her symptoms bc of her mom? Whatever else was going on, she is not faking symptoms. No one can fake anything while in a medical coma. A very disturbing case. @@NurseSue425

it wasn't like she diagnosed her herself. Maya's parents took her to multiple doctors, and it was one of those doctors who diagnosed her, and who set the ketamine treatment. Maya's mother wasn't talking out of her ass, she was saying what she had been told (which ended up being true). It wasn't her idea to give Maya ketamine, but that was the only treatment that worked for Maya's advanced CRPS. And yes, the mum had serious mental health issues AS A RESULT of the way she was treated. Being desperate for your child to get the treatment they need is not attention seeking, it's being a parent who doesn't want their kid to suffer. She was treated like a criminal, seperated from her child, and in her mind the only way for Maya to be released is if she wasn't there anymore. It's heartbreaking what Mrs Kowalski, Maya and the rest of the family went through, and to speak about a seriously suffering mother in such a way is beyond disrespectful.
