Another interpretation of this fable is that the boy was the victim of the villagers' doubt and mishandling of the situation. The boy saw a wolf, he cried for help and everyone in the village came running, the noise of the crowd scared the beast off, so no wolf. The second time the boy saw the creature, he called for help: it was the same scenario, again no wolf. The third time he called out, no one bothered to come, the wolf wasn't frightened and the boy got devoured. This version is more of a Grimm's Fairytale than Aesop's fable. lol
