‘WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS’ MOVIE REACTION *First Time Watching* 

Funny no one mentioned that Stu wasn't an actor, but an IT technician who worked on the short film that the movie was based on. Taika Waititi didn't want Stu to take any acting lessons in order to make his performance more natural.

The show is also hilarious, a must watch!

Everyone is telling you to watch the show as well, and for sure do so, but it sounds like you've never heard of Jemaine Clement, so you really need to watch Flight of the Conchords! Legendary show. The actor for the main werewolf in this movie is also in that show.

My favorite Taika Waititi movie. Despite his recent smash hits, that I also like, I keep coming back to this movie. Trivia: Each of the main characters are similar to a vampire from a famous vampire movie: Petyr is analogous to Count Orlok from Nosferatu, Deacon reflects David from The Lost Boys, Vladislav is comparable to Gary Oldman's Dracula, Nick is reminiscent of Edward from Twilight, and Viago is like Louis from Interview With The Vampire.

Comedic masterpiece - the blend of horror and sitcom humour is seamless..who else could have a guy bleeding out be hilarious?

I liked the ending. The dude vamp got his girl,even though he was a cradle robber

This movie resulted in two TV spinoffs, both really good. There is the American wwdits show, and Wellington PD which follows the cops.

You should definitely consider reacting to the What We Do in the Shadows TV-show too!

I would also recommend the TV series adapted from this movie. It just started its 3rd series here in the US. It's as funny as the movie. Also, the 2 police officers have their own show as well called Wellington Paranormal. Also worth checking out!

I love how all of the flatmates represents a different vampire from pop cuture history. Pyter is Nosferatu, the first film vampire. Vladislav is Bram Stokers Dracula whose name was taken from Vld Dracula aka Vlad the impaler. Viago is an Ann Rice style dandy vampire whose just a hopeless romantic. Deacon is more of a composite of vampires from 2 movies that came out the same year, The Lost Boys, and Near Dark. The worms thing is definitely a Lost Boys reference. Nick actually says in character, "I'm Twilight!" Which is hilarious because that makes Stu his "Bella." A human with no personality who all the vampires instantly love for some reason. 😅

Want more? Tv shows? This movie, the show of the same name and Wellington Paranormal are all set in the same shared universe. Wellington Paranormal follows the two local police officers from this original film and features a few cameos with 3 series and 4th on the way. Great cast and chemistry between them all is fantastic. Even the New Zealand Prime minister's husband made a cameo in an episode (s2e1) and so did a favourite character from this original film (s1e5)...maybe even a swearwolf (s1e4)...or two? (s3e2) as well as great episodes about aliens, ghosts, witches, demons and blobs...everything. Highly recommend as it is produced by Taika and jemaine Clement, who also directs some episodes. The US show is also produced by them starring my British boys Matt Berry (who I've seen perform music live) and Kayan Novak. Both are heroes of mine. Berry has a distinct voice and way of speaking along with comic timing, genuine music talent and generally being awesome in everything. As is Kayan Novak who is the Fonejacker/Facejacker. A man of a thousand voices who can act his ass off in any role and is also too good for this world. Rest of the cast are also amazing. But I have a bias to my 2 boys...being in a tv spin off of one of my favourite comedy films. Also filled with cameos of not just the movie but all vampire movies in general. s1e6 and 7 have an insane level. As well as another few heroes of mine including Doug Jones, a fantastic actor of both physical and verbal who has played so many roles, some being iconic creatures. So when people say their favourite universe is MCU or Star wars...mine is what I have dubbed the "what we do-verse". I know, it's a comments section...not a film or tv blog...but I cannot help but write essays in reaction videos about how much joy this film and it's 2 spin off shows have brought me in dark times. I will tell anyone and everyone about how good both shows also are. "Not as good". Extremely high bar that is almost always met. US show is geared more towards US tv and same with the new Zealand show. Are some episodes not as good as others? Absolutely. Doesn't mean the entire show is not worth watching. Some episodes I rewatch regularly. They are near perfect. I wanted more...there is more and I got more. Very rare from an independent comedy film. In fact...A first? Has an independent film ever had a spin off? Let alone 2? That are this good? Exactly. Enjoy!

You, you went in with the right attitude and remade it for me. You were saying "poor Stew" and yet I could tell you believed Stew could and should be sacrificed for comedic value. Then they brought him back and had werewolf interaction. What a great excuse. You rolled with the punches and you rolled with laughter. I will watch anything you set before yourself cause you don't take yourself too seriously and you understand how to enjoy the ride. "Willing suspension of disbelief" doesn't come easy for some, but for you it's like you immediately understood the trade off was worth it. You're gonna laugh, and the best part is, your dental work is impeccable! Love you dear. You're the perfect person to share this shit with!
