With all the custom automotive history behind Chip, with all the different hot rods he has put his hands on, the excitement and the pure joy of finding this Barris Bros. creation is written all over Chips face. I also really love seeing the pics of the proud owner behind the wheel....gangster!!!!
Amazing that you are keeping a classic car in original condition and bring it back to life. Looking into the future I can imagine in 50 years, another restorer is drooling over a Foose build in a barn somewhere. Love ya work!
It’s not an original car. It was a hot rod done by George Barris, the guy that built the original Batman car from the tv series with Adam West, he also built a lot of other famous cars. This was one of George’s first custom cars. Sadly George passed away recently and Chip wants to help the family preserve George’s work to help them sell it.
Great video. Thank you. In Oregon in 1960, the guys were painting Candy Apple red and Pearl (from Pearls) paint. Medal flake in 1968. I guess I am just an old guy to remember those paint jobs.
I'm an old guy too.. LOL... I remember when those candy colors first came out & the very 1st was Candy Apple Red, reminded me of a candy apple at the state fair... 😁
Great to see a second video of the car. It needs the love of Chip and the owners family to stop her getting chopped in to something else, or just fading away into obscurity. 👍 That paint work on the photos WOW
This is an amazing piece of history and art please Chip do your magic give the resurrection to this car and at least a drive inside the parking lot will be awesome see it soon with all that glamor!!!❤❤❤
Chip when i hit the lottery we're both going on the road saving automotive history like this...how great to hear you talking about leading...old Bill would smile and puff his cigar!
Can you imagine Chip Foose washing your car at your house with you! My therapy is cleaning my cars/ trucks/ bikes and detailing them, always feels good. I'd be clinically healed if Chip came by, LoL
This car and the historie is just great. Two guys in the sixties doing their thing. They must have been so proud at their work. I like that Chip Foose sees that nothing needs to change. The cliche it is only original once is totally true for this piece of automotive historie,. l love this small series. We just do not have this in the Netherlands but I really appreciate it.
You said it...when you come across videos as such it makes me walk out the garage and pick up on my ride where I got a little depressed and move on...we are a strange breed my friend!
Beautiful car and Story about it’s History! An early Barris Build is Cool to see and Chip is a great choice to show it. Thanks for sharing Guys,😎👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🕊🦋🕊☮️🖤🌅🎉🇺🇸
Beautiful. That color just popped when they washed it. Can't wait to see what Chip does to it. That story of the model overspray on the car though. lol
Cannot believe the boys didn’t help there Dad to get it clean and running before he passed . Was it respect for there Dad or fear as they never touched it . Glad Chip is all over this project .
What a fantastic find Chip! It looks fantastic after just a wash! That Candy Apple Red still looks deep enough to take a huge bite of when it was wet! Please just clean it & get it running & driving good & that’s it! Keep doing what you do sir! All the best from Scotland!👏👏👏👍❤️🏴🇺🇸
Chip making great memories of a car for a family -and he’s just cleaning it up and giving them some valuable historic information to let them know their father built something that was admired by many.
I'm not trying to be critical but apparently the memories weren't that special to them or they wouldn't be taking it to auction. Because there's no way that I could sell that car. Just one old car guy's opinion.
What a find. The man was an absolute legend. Same goes for you to Chip. The way you can look at a vehicle and see all the small details to do to them is absolutely amazing. Wish I could afford for you to rebuild my 01 single cab Silverado.
When this car first popped up over on the H.A.M.B. people were speculating that the interior was likely trashed because the ad had no photo of it. Obviously they were wrong. It looks to be in pretty good shape. The car is gonna clean and polish up real well.
Amazing piece of hot rod history! A-nd perfect that Chip is involved! The right man for the job! Fantastic that the family kept all the slides and documentation! Incredible time capsule! They're only original once, and this is it! Go Foose and the care takers of this car, keep moving forward!
My Dad bought a 1954 Olds around 1958 or so, blue and white two tone. Historically, my oldest brother slipped on the gas pedal and drove the the left headlight into the cement foundation of our house. I have forgotten the outcome, I think my Dad then bought a brand new Rambler.
I hope whoever buys it at auction shares it with the general public as much as possible and doesn't end up sitting in some private garage for another 50 years. That is truly a museum piece.
Still retains the King County "A" plates. What an unbelievable treasure. North Bend is at the foothills of the Cascade mountains, rain happens often. The condition is remarkable. My sister worked at this family's clothing store back in the 1970's. Small world. So happy Chip is helping this family.
Hello Chip…. Proud to say I’m building MY version of your “GrandMaster ‘35 Chev Master Coach Deluxe”…. I saw the REAL Grandmaster at the 2005 Good Guys Show at Del Mar Racetrack…. It was PURE luck that I saw YOUR car approx 5 years after I found MINE cast off in a field in a Lemon Grove, CA brickyard… A most beautiful & unique stroke of GOOD FORTUNE! An amazing once-in-a-lifetime discovery.
Fender skirts were frequently stolen in the 59s, and some people put razor blades near the latch lever as an effective deterrent. Easy to spot the person who made the attempt.
Thank you for filming and posting this. It’s so awesome to see a piece of custom car history so well preserved. I’ve always thought that the stories behind the cars is what makes the cars. The owners dreams are in these cars.
I was lucky enough to meet mister Barris the late 90s at his friend's house, we sat and drank beer and ate pizza talking about old cars I was an acquaintance of his friend in Bonita springs,FL
Looking forward to your process of getting this car cleaned up and ready for the auction. So many details and possibly some areas that will need attention. After seeing your past restorations, I can’t wait to see the result on this one.
What an amazing find! Chip's love for this car shines through. I'm astounded at how good of condition the car is in. Getting the engine and brakes in working order is going to be interesting to watch.
Chip. You are in heaven ! I'd love to be there with you ! That music was really bugging me .....and then it ticked ! I first heard this in a Buddy Rich video with the wonderful Barbara Stanwick singing "Drum Boogie " Thanks Chip !
My Dad grew up in Van Nuys California and graduated from Van Nuys High School in '57. He was big time into Hot Rods and I remember him talking about his buddies who had a George Barris car. I wonder if this is it?
Packhard tail lights, 58 Buick headlights, 53 Chevy grille ... George Barris custom ... takes me back to my younger days reading Rod and Custom (the half size edition like 8.5 by 5.5 inches) pulp paper mostly B&W.
More of this kind of content and love Chip!! I love seeing you do some archaeology and recount Kustom and Hot Rod history with a hands on approach. 🏁❤️
That’s the importance, the love of the passion that was designed by the artist. There’s nothing in the real car world that’s more important than the love
Chip, At this point in time, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else, I'm really excited to see what this is going to turn out to be. It's 10:51 PM EST, and I've been on my desktop since 9:16 AM, the sandman is beating me stupid and I've got to log off for now. G'nite.
There are 2 Barris cars in the central valley in Red Top area garaged and in mint condition. Plus a couple of Winfield's cars as well. If you would like a tour I can make arrangements. I used to see your dad at goleta once and a while when I lived off of walnut lane.
I couldn't sell it, even if I was in financial chaos way to much family history with that car. I would've signed it over to a respected family member before selling it out of the family . That's a Legacy car you'll regret selling that later on. Fantastic custom Chip and his crew will get it back to what it deserves to be.
I don't think that I've even blinked watching any of these video's.. I saw this car in the Barris books I used to get from the library so many years ago.
That car is a genuine work of art. The only thing that makes you nervous is the thickness of the paint. You don't want to take and remove too much of the surface when your detailing it.
It's really surprising that the car is in such good condition, and it hasn't been messed with. The magazine articles and pictures are very cool. This car was a very big deal at the time, and it's still a big deal all these years later. Guys like Barris were so talented, and the things they did to cars back in the day were amazing... I'm curious how much it will bring at auction.
When you say Tomatoey red, it reminds me of the original color of my 37 Chev PU. Swift #20 Commercial red. It has an orangish hue that I do not care for. So if I do paint it in the original scheme of Black fenders and Running boards and red body, it. will be a red that leans more to the blues. Probably like my 2002 GMC Envoy. The truck was my Aunt and Uncles before me. I had fallen in love with the body style when I was in HS in the late 60's. I didn't know they had it until I visited after HS graduation in 68.; My cousin and I got it running and we drove it. but the clutch was slipping and the steering sloppy as all get out. My original plan was restoration when I got it in 87. I was working on it with my dad who had been a mechanic in the late 40's. But Dad died suddenly in 93 and I put it away and didn't touch it again until a couple of years ago. I couldn't continue with restoration so decided to do a Resto Mod. it will look original , but the frame has been beefed up, FatMan Stage III and a rear end from an Explorer. Engine is out of a 2014 Silverado. I'm looking into the Hot Rod Institute in Rapid City SD to do the body and paint.
By 1970 these old paint jobs still stood out but when you would git up close you would see how the layers of laqure would of cracked my favorite of these were the pearl white ones .😊
Things so wonderful that you don't know who has the fortune, the father that his son loves what he has done or the son does what the father loved, congratulations to both.
Can’t wait to see it get a light polish I suspect the sons are not car guys that is why they are not bothered with it What amazes me is that the dad had that built to go to college and then kept it all this time It would not have been cheap back then with all that custom work
