The 1 man you did not mention was the course record holder. Who had a hole in 1 WITH A DRIVER, on the 5th hole (medal tee), into the wind!! -5 37 was the gross score. It's stood for 15years! And this man happens to be my father :)
Erik is great for golf vlogs because, while some vlog for the holes and have more of a "How To Play" style, Erik vlogs for the moments and for the feeling and the beauty of golf course on a great piece of land somewhere in the world. Erik invokes an emotional response when you watch. Both type of golf vloggers are necessary but Erik is in his own world with capturing the feelings of golf.
For the record though the old boy was saying "arable" farm not animal farm. Arable being a farm with crops, rather than a pastoral farm which is livestock only.
It’s easy to invoke feelings of travel and adventure in younger audiences like myself. It’s hard to invoke those same feelings in golf, seemingly regardless of where it is. Erik and RGC crew have found the perfect blend of the two that inspires a 20 year old kid like myself to play golf and remember that it is meant to be fun and a get away, and that it is possible in almost every corner of the globe. I love RGC and Erik for that alone. Thank you for keeping me young and inspiring me to do more.
What a course. Arran is a beautiful island, alongside all the other islands of Scotland really. Looks like you got one of the 4 good days of Summer too!
Erik, im 29 and just got starting playing golf last year. Youre probably one of the good reason for it. This is the best content I have seen on youtube along w/ Adventures in Golf. Please never stop making those videos.
Played there back in the 80's when I was a kid. My parents used to take us to Arran for Holidays back then. Believe when I say, you had the best conditions ever.
Erik and Alex, you make a special place even more special. I think if I were to have a dream 4 ball you'd be strong contenders, along with the gentleman Tom Watson. Thanks, can't wait for the next episode. Rod
One of your best ever. Really captured the magic of the game and I don’t know why, but there truly is something about the way golf is viewed and played by the Scots that just gets it right. Such a great, great episode. Thank you!
Hi there,i,m 67 yo and have been playing for just 18 mnths and everything you,ve said about golf is so so true, many thanks, look forward to more,,take care Les
An old colleague of mine who lives in Troon told me I have to go to Arran and play their courses. She said I won't have experienced anything like them before ! Willie was a real character
Wow! I want more, this series gave me goosebumps and it's only episode 1. I feel like I'm a lot like Willie, I go to the course to forget and enjoy playing golf.
Great, greater, even more, greatest ever video I have seen in the “discover a golf course” movie from you Erik. The images, the talk, the people the way of filming et and putting it together. We were there with you! Many thanks for sharing this with us.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, my guy! It's a pleasure to be able to "bring" people along our travels and make them feel like they're a part of the team there.
This is the course I got. My handicap on. Must have played it over 300 times. Love it. I have family on the island and I get over at least 3 times a year.
So beautiful... the gravitas of history mixed with the "we're out here to have fun" mentality is powerful. A microcosm of what we should aspire to as humans, or something deep like that. Great work as always.
Brilliant. One half of my family are Boyds originally from just across the firth of Clyde - Kilmarnock. So this course must now go on the list to play sometime. Awesome.
I wish there were more people around me who had the same golf mindset as you and the RGC peeps. Just to understand the history and appreciate a course for it qwerks! Looking forward to this series a ton!
What a truly amazing fucking video for golf! So well shot and told. Heart of gold kind of stuff. Find a local, tell his story and encompass everything we love about the sport. All while making it a travel and adventure video. God this was good. Kudos.
Got to play here in 2014 on the way to Macrahanish. Really cool course, super friendly people, totally worth a stop if you’re headed out to the Kintyre Peninsula.
Loved this video, as a Glaswegian we all have a love affair with Arran. Can’t wait to see the rest of the vids in this series! Keep up the good work my guy
This whole video is great. Beautifully shot, crispy clean audio, incredible storytelling. Would love to work on video of this caliber some day. Looking forward to the rest of this series!
Only just found your channel (sorry), you should totally come to the north of Scotland for a round. Some cracking courses up here. I’m a member of Moray which has the best finishing hole in the north, I’m biased but it’s true. There’s also Castle Stuart, which hosted the Scottish open and newly opened Kings, which I’ve not yet played. I’m watching this as I eat breakfast and about to play Trump international and really enjoying your stuff. Keep it up!
He said "not an arable farm"., not "not an animal farm" - Just for accuracy. But like the others, I just love your respect and sheer enjoyment for our golf courses. Many quirky courses in Scotland - Hopeman, Brora, Kingussie, Stonehaven are four I like. But the bucket list of the best must start with Dornoch, Prestwick, Gleneagles, Turnberry and the Old Course. Muirfield, Troon, Carnoustie. The front nine at Royal Aberdeen - perhaps the best in Scotland? Must add that friends raved about the new Dunbarrie Links near Upper Largo in Fife and I would add that if you go to Kingsbarns also go to the Cheese Toastie Stall at the local beach for the best cheese sandwiches in the world! (though the catering at the club there is first class too!)
Need to play the Barra golf course. Its literally a field with fences around the greens to keep the cows off it. It truly is how I imagine Golf started. Best 9 holes I have played for it pure fun. Up over rock outcrops down little valleys, drop a ball because your ball landed in a pile of cow shit hahahaha. Great fun.
just a funny note, my first 18 hole course i played was Princes near Sandwich, nothing like uncut rough links golf for your first real game. i was terrible, had great fun but played the whole course with the same ball which i was really proud of.
myself, Tom Mclardy, Steve Brooks and Kevin Snow stayed on Aaron for some golf, played this course. Such a shame it was raining but Big Dave ( the local taxi driver) took us around to different courses. Great little hole here where you play to the green up a mountain
Learnt my putting craft on Sheringham/ Beeston Regis Putting Green - North Norfolk, UK (with views of Sheringham GC on the other side of town). 18 hole putting green up the side of a hill on the cliff edge by the sea. Want to learn about breaks when you are 4 years old, perfect.
You have inspired me no end to get back into golf. Went out on Friday in the pissing rain to play Whinhill in Greenock. Have missed playing big time. Thank you and the crew 🙏
