Up central funding….been nothing but cuts. 19 councils in this mess. Not all incompetent. They have been squeezed for years. Good material for these 2 racists though.
This should be a no brainer. Why aren't their finances completely open source? I should be able to log in and look at their bank statement (our money) any time I want.
We in Ceredigion had a ten percent rise last year and a thirteen percent rise this year! No services, no libraries, no sports centres, no swimming pools and absolutely disgraceful roads. So what are we paying for most would like to know? The whole council tax has become a second mortgage for most, and the rises are unsustainable!
I live in Ceredigion too and we do have swimming pools- Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Lampeter, Tregaron, Cardigan that is every town in the county. There’s also leisure centres in all those towns. The council tax increase is for wage increase, covid compensation or that will come, and private companies. £4million we pay a private rubbish company. The only information they haven’t given is wages and how much they cost us. There’s more information on the Facebook page of where the council tax goes. £4million for school transport for 3,400 school pupils which should be paid for by parents every week and is paid to private bus companies. Can’t remember what else was on there but it’s far too expensive for everything. Libraries cost us £175k and there’s library’s in Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Lampeter and I’m sure Cardigan- possibly not Tregaron but not sure. It’s disgusting the amounts shown for what we get and what we pay for. It’s just going downhill faster for everyone. Services will decrease because we can’t afford to keep them. What we have now won’t keep going because we can’t pay more. Half the country doesn’t even pay council tax but we still have to pay for those services. Pointless!!!!
@@PatIsaac-w7z I live in Newcastle emlyn and we have none of those things…..so we are paying for nothing!!!!!!!!!! Or we are just subsidising these other places to have those amenities, not good enough. Ceredigion council has huge empty buildings in Aberystwyth, ever since covid, those aren’t needed they should be sold. And the same applies around the county, staff are working from home, so there’s no need for all these cost heavy buildings, there’s a huge saving. Councillors gave themselves a huge 17% rise last year, Christ knows what it is this year, absolutely ridiculous! Ceredigion has the reputation for being one of the worst wasteful councils in the country, it’s got to stop. This whole area is a poorly paid area, mostly leisure and care jobs, over £2000 a year for next to nothing is I repeat completely unacceptable!!!

@@PatIsaac-w7z Henllan is in Ceredigion, Newcastle emlyn is my closest village. Llandysul is my other closest village. Wether they are in Ceredigion or not isn’t the point, neither has any facilities to justify these huge council tax costs. Carmarthenshire has also increased their council tax by a similar ridiculous amount. Cardigan pool is closing by the way. The ultimate fact is these levels of increase in council tax are unsustainable for such a poor area of the country!

Birmingham council have been useless since the 60’s, Smallbrook ringway dire, Chelmsley Wood, Druids Heath, the library the was built in the 70’s and knocked down 30 odd years later. Total mis management. They built flats and were told they would not be able to keep the water out, which was correct, then there was the Maudsley affair. They have always been useless. The trouble is there is no financial liability for managers who miss manage and Andy Street, well!

But there is no obligation to pay council tax it was abolished since 1992 the majority of taxes go into the government consolidation fund it doesn’t go towards local Services.
@@jonathanwilson8951 they are not a real courts they are a hired room by the council and nothing you to do with the court,a real magistrate will not sign court documents for the council as it is illegal,as ive said there is NO obligation to pay council tax its all corrupt and its all in legislation online for you to read,I wouldn’t take their offer (summons) to appear in their fake courts, do some research.

How often are Councils financially audited, if things are going wrong it needs to be spotted quickly, immediately monitored, urgent action taken, priorities always being basic amenities, public health and safety and provision of local services. I also believe that municipal workers are essential and important to society as a whole, people like cleaners and bus drivers are very valued and respected in countries like Germany, they are perceived to be doing a vital and important job, which they are, they are enabling the smooth functioning of society. The attitude of people who look down on waste workers etc is unhelpful. This situation is an unforgivable disgrace.

Given such a substandard performance, with fiscal wastage - What about a typical Councillor's annual wage (plus allowances and pension benefits)?? WHO determines how much is considered reasonable, for level of responsibility?? (.. Hopefully, not self-determined!!) Is the Taxpayers Alliance or even the Government itself, involved in monitoring the wage spending?? Clearly, it appears the taxpaying public are NOT getting fair value for money from many Councils, in general.

What incentive is there for councils to behave appropriately and be prudent with our money? How do we hold them to account because all sorts of outrageous things seem to happen behind closed doors - things that we neither want nor need, never mind the 'equal pay for equal work' issue (which could have been foreseen for many years). There never seems to be any open and honest debate or consultation. Isn't the concept that councils are supposed to serve the people who voted them in? What's stopping them seeking a 50+% increase and why should just the home owners alone have to contribute?
We all know why Birmingham is bust how can you go bust for doing nothing where has the money gone, will there be a pay rise for councilors soon above inflation as normal diversity is our strength

I'll sit on the fence and say it could be due to Birmingham Council not managing things as well as they could, and lack of investment from Westminster. I'd hazard a guess at the latter being the main culprit. At the end of the day, the Tories are the ruling party.
Ordinarily I would be appalled at this betrayal of the British people But there are hardly any British people in Birmingham - which is the very reason the council went bankrupt in the first place.
You've got to consider what proportion of Birminghams population all 2 million or so, actually pay council tax, if you're on benefits you won't pay anything or very little, a large part of the problem must rest with central government policies on employment and immigration, 16 million people in this country are on disability payments, add on another 5 million unemployed, just saying
