My great-grandmother was trained as a midwife in Norway in the 19th century. She never lost a mother, never put her hands inside a woman, never had a breech birth, and didn't think much of male doctors.

Greed and they have been trying to traumatize women for century. There has been documentaries by white women showing how under Midwife care they had even orgasms. Nearly 30 and 60 years ago women breakfast to the media. Now they are simply saying that white women don't even exist are not important. A woman's baby her husband are another race is always more important than her. Well this issue is about sexism and yes misogyny is the oldest prejudice. This is not a black woman issue. Again it's sick that they Co-op to the topic and then all of a sudden it's important because it's happening to black people. Worse and longer have been happening to all women

I was 40 years old when I had my second child. I was biologically 25 because I worked, as a personal trainer and ate very healthy. I had a perfect pregnancy even though medical professionals tried to scare me into all kinds of different things that would have negatively impacted me and my baby. One prenatal check was performed incorrectly and introduced bacteria in my cervix. My delivery, a c-section, was disgusting. I was bullied at the hospital when I wanted to hold off on having them rush my c-section. I had decelerations which nursing staff were not smart enough to link to my naturally low blood pressure. They asked me if I wanted to kill my baby. I felt like they were holding me hostage and fast forward several years, I learned that these kinds of tactics are not uncommon. What a shock that was! I was there with my 16 year old daughter so had no staunch support. My cesarean was rushed. Afterwards, I had very bad pain, part of that was due to my requesting that they remove my morphine drip. I did not want my baby to have drugs in her system although they tried to assure me that she would not. So, she could receive nutrients from the food i ate but not the morphine, was my question to my nurse. I also learned that the nursing staff thinks that everyone is ignorant. My baby turned blue when I was trying to nurse her. She could not breath. I called them to come get her but they took too long so I had to get up to go get help by pushing her down to the nurses station. She made it but had to go to the NICU and stayed for 7 days. The one compassionate and helpful physician was the head of the NICU who confessed that she thought that my daughter was simply delivered to quickly which is what caused her breathing problem. I developed edema in my legs which I had never before had in my life. I drank dandelion tea and the following day it was gone. My baby was also diagnosed with jaundice and the consumption of the tea seemed to get rid of her jaundice rather quickly as well. They kicked me out of the hospital after 3 days but I was there every day, all day and night with my baby. I was not supposed to drive but when my then boyfriend acted frustrated about taking me, so I drove myself. I stayed with my baby and held her all day once she went to NICU stepdown. It probably was one of the worst experiences of my life. The only way I was able to make peace with it was by being grateful for my baby's life. That experience solidified for me just how broken the medical system is. Previously, I had worked in hospitals for 15 years. I had seen enough. The allopathic, sick care industry has taught the population to lose faith in their abilities and ethics. All one has to do is to examine the true statistics on health outcomes as a result of hospital care. Broken bones and other such accidents might be more their forte, but delivering babies seems more like big business in the creation of trauma and further expenses to the detriment of patients. Once males tried to dominate birthing, giving birth became a trauma-laden experience and here we are.

I was perfectly healthy and had no problems or abnormalities during my 1st full term pregnancy at the age of 26, in Oct. of ‘87. My OBG doctor never indicated the possibility of me having a c-section at anytime throughout my prenatal care. And yet, When I went into labor after my water broke. I was FORCED to stay immobile in bed the ENTIRE time! As I was strapped to # debilitating devises, which prevented me from sitting up or moving freely, as I witnessed many other mothers who were also in labor doing. They were allowed to walk around in the hallways and physically move freely during their experience. I on the other hand was NOT permitting to HELP my body perform in a NATURAL or normal productive manner. And When I would complain about being uncomfortable and asked to be able to simply be allowed to SIT up or get UP in order to walk like other expectant moms, I was admonished and yelled at by mean and very hostile medical staff / nurses! After over 10 hours of painful 😓 hard labor I was forced into getting an unexpected c-section against my will. Which left me with debilitating severe back pain for over 3 years as a result! Needless to say I was extremely angry 😡 and disappointed by the horrible experience. And felt betrayed by my doctor and the hospital for subjecting me to needless suffering in order to make a significant $$ profit from my prolonged stay and significant cost increase of having MAJOR surgery!! 🤨😡

I'm half Colombian and the stigma is really prevalent. My mother never smoked anything, nor did she ever take any drugs or alcohol but her doctors ASSUMED that her heart disease was a result of cigarette smoking. She asked them for water and was ignored, so I came from work and tried to get a reason why she wasn't being responded to. They made excuses and the next day she was doped up and transferred within any notice! When I found her at a rehab hospital later that week, she had no idea how she'd gotten there nor where she was. Mama was 68 years old when she died in a hospital that, once again ignored her and claimed that she had no next of kin listed. And the medical community can't understand why we just don't trust them.

My daughter in-law lost her baby at a Jewish hospital near Seattle. The black nurse came into the waiting room and told my partner that the hospital was going to let her die if he did not act NOW. He raised hell to get her the care she needed in order to survive. They had to call security to calm him down. She survived. On her second pregnancy she chose a different hospital , both her and the baby survived. If you are a descendant of Freedmen and Freedwomen you have to do the research before entrusting your health to people who may not care if you live or die.

They wouldn’t let me out until I was strong enough in their assessment. My husband stayed with me as much and as long as he wanted as we had a fold up bed in our own room. When I was discharged the midwife came to the house a day later, then at least a few days after that, then a week or ten days later. I had an issue with breastfeeding so had visits from health visitors. I developed mastitis so had a visit in the middle of the night by a Dr. My baby developed a health issue, night visit by Dr. happened again. All of this under the NHS where healthcare is free at the point of delivery. So many things could have gone wrong but they didn’t because I had excellent care. I am forever grateful.

I work with Black women in Georgia. I have had the hardest time getting black women to do ANY prenatal care. We offer to make the appointments for them, pick them up and drop them back home afterwards. The problem is that black women who tend to be younger (meaning we don't see this problem with older black women or educated black women) will not do any prenatal care, do not take prenatal vitamins (they are given to them for free). They end up NOT being screened for prenatal-diabetes, pre-eclampsia. (Because they don't go to their appointments) then when they do get sick mid-pregnancy and they can't walk or talk....and decide to go to the hospital. They have made no contact with any office....so nobody knows them, knows who they are....what their blood type is/how far along their pregnancy is. It is a clusterf*ck. We have midwives here in Georgia that work with lower income women. Like I said...I troubles me to hear these filmmakers say it is "racism" that is causeing the high death rate. The doctors/nurses and mid-wives are overwhelmingly people of color here in my town and they are not RACIST. Black women seem to be overwhelmed by making an appointment and then following through and making it to that appointment. They say they don't want to go because of things like they don't want to get their blood drawn or they don't want anyone to "touch" their private parts. Yup....we have a network here that tries to encourage mostly black women to do prenatal care and after-birth care...including well baby appointments. This problem is not seen in the Hispanic community....those women are at every appointment with their husbands/partners. Any mid-wife here will tell you it is not uncommon to see a black women for the first time when she is in labor or when she is suffering from a health emergency due to lack care. I think these films are very "powerful" but just hang out in Monroe, Louisiana or Gainesville, GA and talk to midwives, talk to OB/GYN's....find pregnant black women on the street and ask them if they have done any prenatal care.....you will be very surprised. Now you do find many young black girls who go to one or two appointments to get those ultrasound pics....and then never show up again.

The problem is that they do not want to engage with you because they do not trust you. Your comment reveals an exasperated and condescending attitude. Recruit some young black women who are compassionate, good communicators to do outreach. They will probably do a better job of relating and engaging since you obviously cannot. Don't compare black women to other communities either. That's asinine and very telling. Better still, resign. You are a part of the problem. Probably shouldn't write this but your overall attitude seems HOSTILE, PATRONISING and JUDGMENTAL The pregnant black women can detect this in seconds. And you foolishly wonder why they stay away?? What an unfunny joke.If your network is full of people like you, there in lies the problem. Nobody is drawn to zero empathy and zero compassion.

Out of the four children I had two were endangered by the treatment at the teaching hospitals that I had them at. The only reason I had to have them at teaching hospitals was that at the time I was pregnant with them we were going through hard times. One child had to be put in intensive care because I had been over medicated for pain while in labor. The other child almost died due to being ignored while I was in labor. She was born so oxygen deprived she was so blue she looked purple. When I went in to my six week check up the doctor took one look and demanded to know what hospital I had been to. When I asked why he said "They ruined you". I have been dealing with the consequences ever since. The other two children were born when we had insurance and they had no problems. I will never forget the conditions in the hospital where I had the second baby without insurance. There was a young black woman in the hallway standing against the wall screaming that the baby was coming and being ignored. She was still on street clothes and had been standing there for quite awhile. I have always wondered what happened to her. Did she get "ruined" too? My labor in the teaching hospital for the first baby was attended by my husband's cousin who was learning to be a nurse and she had already been to several births. She said she was shocked by the treatment I had received. She stopped her nurses training after that. Maybe it was because of they way the medical staff yelled at me for struggling (I was tied hand and foot at the time) but I was trying to tell them I couldn't breathe. I wish we had healthcare like UK has. No prejudice there against skin color or lack of income. And they see healthcare as something all people have a right to.

@@cathjj840 what a shame. Be wary, you all could end up like us poor Americans who live with illness because we can't afford treatment. Sucks to die from something that could be cured of we could afford it. Of course, that mostly applies to poor people. The rich can get treatment. If you can afford health insurance you can get treatment at a lower price, but when poor that lower price is still a lot of money. That is if the insurance company covers your treatment and doesn't find it too costly to themselves. They want to make a profit so they will try to find ways of avoiding anything that cuts into that profit. Like any corporation they keep a close eye on making money. Politicians like things that free up money for other projects. Plus hospitals and other medical centers probably have seen how much doctors and hospitals make in money here in the US and would like a piece of that pie. My second cousin was a doctor but instead of being a money grubber he invested his profits on equipment for his medical office instead of sending out the lab work and X-rays to be done. That got him information quickly and it saved his patients money and they didn't have to schedule appointments and pay the other medical places that specialize in doing that. HalleluYah HalleluYah HalleluYah HalleluYah The midwives in Egypt before the first EXODUS were able to save the babies and women because they revered and worshipped the TRUE CREATOR regardless of the names of the Egyptian gods promoted.

I have to disagree about midwives. My hips never expanded during my pregnancy due to an accident 3 years earlier. They never did an ultrasound or took it into consideration. When I finally went into labor my daughter ended up getting stuck twice and It took me 3 hrs to push her out, mind you her heart rate dropped from 150 (normal for a newborn) to 50 (dangerous for a newborn) halfway through. When I finally delivered my daughter, she was dead. Thankfully they did cpr immediately and she was resuscitated. I do suspect that she has some brain damage from it, she has autism and has a pretty bad speech delay, though it could also be from limited access to speech therapy and services. Still, I needed a C-section. God was really watching over me and my daughter that day. If her heart rate stopped earlier than when it did, She wouldn’t have survived being born. The midwives were so obsessed with everyone having a natural birth there (a women’s hospital) that they didn’t think of what to do in an emergency. There needs to be birthing centers that have a Dr on call, if not a fixture at the center. I don’t know how to solve the racism in medicine and make medical professionals put aside their bullshit biases. All I know is that just midwives and centers being shoved in neighborhoods that desperately need them. The problem isn’t going to be resolved without a Dr being involved. Still, medicine should be available for everyone near them, at least an urgent care and a family Dr should be available w in a 5-10 mi radius in places like NYC. And be at no cost to the people. Tax payer dollars can afford to pay the Dr and employees as well as for the facility and everything needed to run the facility efficiently and do a great job doing it. All we need to do is stop giving people/companies tax breaks and instead of giving them checks for paying nothing in contributions to our country like Amazon, Jeff Bezos (you know he’s filing for them separately), Netflix, Tesla, Space x, etc. make them pay their share of taxes and put that money to fix the healthcare issue that we are currently talking about

I am sorry for your experience. However, I also think that we forget that babies have been birthed for somewhere close to a million years if you examine the archaeological records. Perhaps the doulas were not trained to deal with such a constriction. I personally think that preparing for a baby should be something that we prepare for upon first learning we are pregnant. We should learn breathwork, how to turn a breech baby by manipulating the position, and how to manage both fear and pain that accompany giving birth. It is fascinating that women in 3rd world countries could give birth to babies by a squatting near a tree, clean the baby up, and go babk to working on the same day. We have lost touch with a natural process. Hygiene is better but many times there is just too much interference.

I did everything was normal I was spotting a bit but that still is normal. I went home and put me and baby down for a nap I stood up from the bed like 3 hrs out from my apt and start gushing even still wasn’t alarmed. Even cooked dinner and then drove myself to urgent care whom then sent me to er. I was hemorrhaging and didn’t even know. That biopsy prob saved my life in more ways than one.

Well, you’ve got two things at play with this perception. First, the majority of those that claim Five Tribes ancestry are not tribal members and they actually have no such ancestry at all. Meaning, the majority of claims are coming from people with bogus lore. So, they are not representative of the actual populations that you are referring to here. Second, there is indeed mixing going on within the legit tribal communities. The levels in each tribes are variable, with Cherokees and Chickasaws being most “mixed,” Choctaws somewhere in the middle, and Creeks and Seminoles being of higher blood quantum. However, the notion of blood purity or higher blood quantum being tied to authenticity is an externally defined criteria anyway. And it’s rather capricious or inconstantly applied, compared to other groups. To contextualize this, we might look at the African American population. The average Black American has a high level of European (around 1/4 degree) and a small degree of Native ancestry (about 1%), by default. And this isn’t even speaking to those that are bi-racial or known to be of mixed status. I mean, that’s the average here. So, if a Black person was say only 50% sub-Saharan African, nobody would ask if they were a “real” Black person, or highlight their “mixed” status. But, for Natives, it’s a different criteria. Of course, a full blood Native is not as dark as a Sub-Saharan African, and the admixture of Native and European can produce a range of phenotypes, including those that look more “White.” So, the Native features might not be as noticeable in an admixed person. Certainly, the visible traits aren’t seen as clearly as sub-Saharan African ones. So, the notion of “Black” status is tied to the One Drop Rule, and visible African traits. Whereas, the notion of Native status is tied to looking stereotypically Native, or being of “pure” blood. And once a person stops looking as a stereotypical Native, their status is questioned. Therefore pure black people with none mixed pure wool hair with burned brass skin are rarely seen due to all mixtures. But suddenly they refer as black, meanwhile never stating the mixtures within. The scriptures or bible states on whom the so called black people truly are. Well, you’ve got two things at play with this perception. According to Judaism, Jews cannot enslave other Jews but you'll find that in their history of the slave trade they didn't ask people what their religion was before putting them on ships. Besides the man who was labeled the Brains of the Confederacy was Judah P Benjamin who was the face on the Confederate dollars and implicated in the assassination of Lincoln. A larger plot and the biggest lie throughout history, was the story of the crucifixion of Christ Jesus the son of Mary (peace be upon them), then the Liars distorted the Bible and the Torah to cover the lie, but could not one of them that turn aside or alter one character from the Holy Qur’an, because Allah Has promised that preserves and protects the Holy Qur’an to the day of Resurrection, as it is the Last message from Allah to His servants and creatures. (4-148) Allah loveth not the utterance of harsh speech save by one who hath been wronged. Allah is ever Hearer, Knower. [4:149] If ye do good openly or keep it secret, or forgive evil, lo! Allah is ever Forgiving, Powerful. [4:150] 004.150 Lo! those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, and seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers, and say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and seek to choose a way in between; [4:151] Such are disbelievers in truth; and for disbelievers We prepare a shameful doom. [4:152] But those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them, unto them Allah will give their wages; and Allah was ever Forgiving, Merciful. [4:153] The people of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven. They asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly. The storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even) after that) they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) had come unto them. And We forgave them that! And We bestowed on Moses evident authority. [4:154] And We caused the Mount to tower above them at (the taking of) their covenant: and We bade them: Enter the gate, prostrate! and We bode them: Transgress not the Sabbath! and We took from them a firm covenant. [4:155] Then because of their breaking of their covenant, and their disbelieving in the revelations of Allah, and their slaying of the prophets wrongfully, and their saying: Our hearts are hardened - Nay, but Allah set a seal upon them for their disbelief, so that they believe not save a few - [4:156] And because of their disbelief and of their speaking against Mary a tremendous calumny; [4:157] And because of their saying: We slew the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger - they slew him not nor crucified him, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain. [4:158] But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise. [4:159] There is not one of the People of the Scripture but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them. [4:163] Lo! We inspire thee as We inspired Noah and the prophets after him, as We inspired Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the tribes, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron and Solomon, and as We imparted unto David the Psalms; [4:164] And messengers We have mentioned unto thee before and messengers We have not mentioned unto thee; and Allah spake directly unto Moses; [4:165] Messengers of good cheer and of warning, in order that mankind might have no argument against Allah after the messengers. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise. [4:166] But Allah (Himself) testifieth concerning that which He hath revealeth unto thee; in His knowledge hath He revealed it; and the angels also testify. And Allah is sufficient Witness. [4:167] Lo! those who disbelieve and hinder (others) from the way of Allah, they verily have wandered far astray. [4:168] Lo! those who disbelieve and deal in wrong, Allah will never forgive them, neither will He guide them unto a road, [4:169] Except the road of hell, wherein they will abide for ever. And that is ever easy for Allah. [4:170] O mankind! The messenger hath come unto you with the Truth from your Lord. Therefor believe; (it is) better for you. But if ye disbelieve, still, lo! unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth. Allah is ever Knower, Wise. [4:171] O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not "Three" - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One God. Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender. [4:172] The Messiah will never scorn to be a slave unto Allah, nor will the favoured angels. Whoso scorneth His service and is proud, all such will He assemble unto Him; [4:173] Then, as for those who believed and did good works, unto them will He pay their wages in full, adding unto them of His bounty; and as for those who were scornful and proud, them will He punish with a painful doom. And they will not find for them, against Allah, any protecting friend or helper. [4:174] O mankind! Now hath a proof from your Lord come unto you, and We have sent down unto you a clear light; [4:175] As for those who believe in Allah, and hold fast unto Him, them He will cause to enter into His mercy and grace, and will guide them unto Him by a straight road. [24:39] As for those who disbelieve, their deeds are as a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one supposeth it to be water till he cometh unto it and findeth it naught, and findeth, in the place thereof, Allah Who payeth him his due; and Allah is swift at reckoning. [24:40] Or as darkness on a vast, abysmal sea. There covereth him a wave, above which is a wave, above which is a cloud. Layer upon layer of darkness. When he holdeth out his hand he scarce can see it. And he for whom Allah hath not appointed light, for him there is no light. [24:41] Hast thou not seen that Allah, He it is Whom all who are in the heavens and the earth praise, and the birds in their flight ? Of each He knoweth verily the worship and the praise; and Allah is Aware of what they do. ------------------------------------------------------- Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth. There is no god but He, The Mighty, The Wise. He does not resemble anyone of His creation. He created the angels from light. He created the heavens and the earth from smoke. He created animals and plants from water. He created the jinn from fire. He created Adam from dust. He created Eve from Adam’s rib. He created Jesus, the son of Mary, from a word He sent with Gabriel, peace be upon him, to the Virgin Mary, He created a serpent (a snake) from the staff of Moses, and with the same stick He split the sea into two parts, (each of them is like a great mountain), He created a female camel out of rock, He creates whatever He wills while He is upon Everything is powerful. He revived the dead of a village (350 thousand) by one pray of one Prophet of the Children of Israel his Name is Ezekiel. He revived some of the dead by one pray of Jesus and Moses [36:82] But His command, when He intendeth a thing, is only that He saith unto it: Be! and it is. [36:83] Therefor Glory be to Him in Whose hand is the dominion over all things! Unto Him ye will be brought back. ٠٠
