This is our first full Pecan Harvest season since moving to this small 4 acre farm with 56 Pecan trees. So happy to have the family come in from out of town to join for the harvest! Check out all that's changed since our first update of the season, linked below. In this episode the mechanical tree shaker pays us a visit and we harvest the last of bigger trees use the new Bag-A-Nut Pecan Harvester, as well as various other small harvesters. You are so right! I thought it was just me, I went out to do some things around the trees yesterday and saw more pecans and thought, "were there more on the tree we missed that fell or what?" Haha! Too funny :D Thanks for watching and commenting

Yeah it’s quite the experience haha! Wait till you see how we have to wash and sort them in upcoming episodes. Our harvest was on the smaller side of what we anticipated so we will see how our profit to cost ends up 👍🏻

Hello. I enjoyed the video. The “Shaker” was amazing. I am excited to see how the pecans are processed. I’m in North Florida where I use the pole roller nut harvester to gather pecans from trees on college campuses.

Thanks! It surely has been one of those years. We have been taking the weight from each tree as we clean and sort and in our upcoming video I will go over the count we have so far. It should be posted by tomorrow at the latest. Thanks for watching and commenting 😁👍🏻 have a great day!

Tree "massager" was so much faster than knocking branches with poles. But it would be so nice to have several of those large harvesters! What harvesting equipment does your friend with 400 trees use? Looking forward to your next video.

Hi Sherry, yes indeed it would be nice to have a bunch of the harvesters! the farmer with 400 trees uses a large drive along vacuum harvester to collect the Pecans off the ground. It picks up the nuts and shoots out any leaves along the way, unfortunately sticks and twigs are also an issue with this kind of harvester and he has to have a crew come in clear them before they use the vacuum. We just bought 20 acres and have counted about 30 pecan trees so far. The property has not been worked for many years now so we have a lot of cleanup work first. How many trees did you complete on the first day and was it just three people harvesting?

Congratulations on the property and Pecan trees! Sounds like a great location! It will probably depend on how mature (or big) your trees. With our family helping there were often times 4-5 of us working to get all the pecans off the ground into bins once the big shaker came out, we were able to get through about 6-8 a day. Before the shaker came, Ben and I worked together to manually harvest some smaller to mid-size trees with long poles by knocking the pecans off onto tarps and putting in totes, we would get about 3 trees done a day doing it that way but again it probably depends on how much the trees produced and how big they are :) I hope it goes well for you guys, what a fun new endeavor. Si it the only function of the harvest or you can use for something eles?

It pretty much only harvest pecans, the bag-a-nut company has other harvesters made for different kinds of nuts too.

just curious what happened to the leaves

The trees go dormant around here beginning in fall so the leaves all fall off around that time and we compost some of them and mulch some using the riding lawn mower with the mulching setting. So they are all pretty much gone by the time the shaker comes out

What type of pecan do you have?

We do know our varieties, unfortunately the original owner passed before we bought the property and we were not given a list. We know there are some Elliot’s and Berkets and Pawnee but other than that out of the 8 kinds we have growing well don’t know.
