tbh I kind of interpreted the whole thing of the guy's bad upbringing being brought up by the author intentionally to show that the whole "Freudian excuse" trope with serial killers is actually pretty weak when you think about it, because it's one person selfishly using their personal trauma as an excuse to end or ruin countless other people's lives (in this case, innocent little girls), especially when a *lot* of people suffer abusive childhoods, and yet comparatively very few ever become serial killers or pedophiles because of it. So I sort of thought V V Cava here was making a statement about how it's actually pretty narcissistic for a likely pedophilic serial killer to think that temporary freedom from his personal demons is more important than the lives of all the girls he kills

Great story! The edge of your seat suspense and the sense of justice being served for all the kids......especially little Maria whose innocence ended up saving her. MCP - you remain my favorite narrator because of performances like this (and love the the "tea" promo at the end). Thanks to all. Needed this after such a crappy day. You all are the best!

I like this story a lot, but I feel like the writing can be a little on the nose at times. Like, the line about how killing girls is the only thing that allows him to feel control after being abused. That’s accurate psychology, but people like this don’t know that about themselves internally.

I just don't understand how a person can go "my life was shitty, I'm gonna start killing little girls because it's the only thing that helps me." more like you never tried anything else or didn't try enough things, like, Idk smoking weed? Which has been shown to help with uncontrollable urges? Jesus christ I know I'm 25 and this ain't new but I can never understand how people have reasons for murder, or murder in the first place.
