PBJ's comments about it being the CEO's job to sell you on their product by any means necessary is evil, and don't let his false Christian ramblings convince you otherwise. He is effectively advocating cigarette companies to sell to kids to make a buck. That sugar blasted cardboard they call cereal has next to zero nutritional value and has components like excess sugar that are actively harmful, especially to children. As an occasional treat, sure whatever you want to give your kids, but not even close to being part of a balanced breakfast. To prey on families struggling financially and tell them to use your products for family dinner is evil.

Just as we are figuring out how all the pesticides are building up at the soils surface because of modern “no till” farming practices. Now chemicals used seasons previously are building up and testing positive in grain grown 2-4 years later. So four years ago if they used a pesticide that is not allowed to be used on crops grown for human consumption, that chemical will be present in the grain you consume even though it was never directly applied to the crop. They are the accumulating type of chemicals and they are quickly building up in the soil we grow our food in and in US as individuals. Farming practices and produce/ crop chemical testing procedures desperately need to be changed and updated or we will all be riddled with diseases very soon. Only testing for chemicals that were applied during this growing season is not keeping people safe anymore when the modern pesticides bio-accumulate and affect crops for multiple years in the future because without the deep tilling process being done, they all bind with minerals and accumulate at the surface and then they have a pronounced latent effect on that fields future crops chemical content for years to come. Of course big pharmaceutical companies would like you to get an extra daily dose of tanacity, imidacloprid and glyphosate. For the shareholders of course. 👌

Whole wheat berries are sweet, chewy, and go great with milk, nuts, fruit, etc. It's got lots of calories too. In my opinion wheat berries are a fancier cereal thats already naturally sweet and more calorie dense.

Here are some potential health risks of wheat: Digestive issues Consuming too much wheat can cause the intestines to work harder, resulting in digestive problems like water retention and bloating. Leaky gut Lectins in wheat can bind to intestinal walls and create leaky gut. Blood sugar spikes High digestibility may cause an unhealthy spike in blood sugar after a meal. Gluten proteins Wheat gluten proteins can cause a range of adverse reactions, including allergies, celiac disease, and a range of less well-defined conditions. Wheat is not a complete food. It provides carbs and fiber, but not protein and fat.

Kinda scary how they push this. Cereal is not the be all, end all for breakfest, nevermind dinner. It doesn't fill you at all. You and your family will undereat and get sick just from eating cereal over time. I stopped eating cereal once I realize that my body always felt sick afterwards. Doesn't matter what brand, my body rejects cereal.

I wouldn’t totally dismiss this. When I was working my first job out of college and living alone working paycheck to paycheck, there was about a two year period where I ate my favorite cereal for lunch in order to save money. But as far as feeding a family for dinner, I can see where that’s a bit of a stretch.

You know, I'm in Canada, and food prices are high too. My kids all earn less than $20/hour, and they've all moved out. Jack and Rachel share a place. Sam has his own place. How do they manage? They cook, and they know what a good price is. Last week, Jack slow-cooked half a brisket overnight. About $40. First meal, pulled beef tacos, enough for both of them for dinner, and for lunch the next day. The priciest secondary ingredient is the taco shells, and they're pretty cheap. Second meal, pulled beef chili. Four servings. Celery, onion, peppers, canned tomatoes? Not expensive. Third meal, pulled beef stew. Four servings. Onions, carrots, potatoes, cabbage. Not a lot of money. You go to the store, and the first place you go is meat. Second place is produce. You plan your meals around what's on special. Anything nonperishable, you buy in quantity when it's a good price. And always remember that you have a freezer. Pork shoulder roasts are on for $2.99/lb? Buy four. Frozen turkeys are going for $1.79/lb in advance of Thanksgiving? Buy two. Even if you aren't going to cook either of them this week, they'll be in your freezer waiting for that rare week when nothing's a good price. When you're buying groceries, you need a combination of short and long term thinking. Do that, and you can make the store owner weep when you pull up in your car. I could tell you stories. My kids liked Frosted Mini-wheats for breakfast. The family sized box had five $2 coupons on the back. Two of the coupons were for snacks I could put in their lunches. So I'd wait until the cereal went on sale for half price ($5.50) and buy ten of them. I'd cut out the coupons on all ten boxes and wait until the snacks went on for half price ($2.19). I'd bring in my coupons and buy ten of each snack. I paid $55 for $110 worth of cereal, and $3.80 for $87.60 worth of snacks. That's $58.80 for $197.60 worth of food. We were dirt poor, but ate like kings. Top sirloin. Prime rib. Pork tenderloin. Chicken breast. I never once stooped to buying regular ground beef. You just have to know how to work it. You need to integrate short and long term thinking. What is the situation now? What is it likely to be in the future?
