Allowing ownership of natural resources by mortal beings is suicidal for future generations. The hubris is why greed has taken so much from so many. How can something that took millions of years to create be owned and used by a being who may live 100 years at most? And here I sit in a home powered and built by this flawed philosophy and my choosing to do so or not won't change the future of it, only removing the destruction at its roots will. Require long term responsibility upon the most destructive industries or reap the destruction their allowed to impart.

the main problem is few if any voters in moist countries vote mainly or even largely about climate issues.

Greta is right about the "business as usual" and the "blah blah blah" but wrong on the fundamentals. The main problems are liberalism, global capital, overpopulation and egalitarianism.

I analogize the climate situation to a population living on a mountain surrounding by rising seas. The collective wealth of mankind declines as the water rises and diminishes the anount of land, food, animals etc available to the population. The so-called "wealth" generated by industry merely enables richer people to bid more for land higher up on the mountain, leaving poorer people to the rigors of the sea. It seems that the richer folks won't stop until the water level reaches them. Alas, by then it will be too late.

Oligarchs allow Thunberg a platform because her audience remains relatively small and she does not ask her followers to do anything that would hurt capitalism profits. Even if she did, unlikely most would make the sacrifice necessary. If or when she begins stops repeating the cause, and begins speaking about grass root action to end capitalism and wars, she will be disappeared into a jail or grave.

I have been listening to Greta Thunberg since 2018 when she was about 17 years old. I'm 70 years old now. Back in 1969 when I was 17 years old, I was not allowed to speak and express my views. No, I was told to sit down and shut up! I learned how to read and write before I started school. Back in the early 1960s, when I was only in the fourth grade, I was already reading at high school and adult level. During the summer months I would hang out in the public library, checking out books that I was not allowed to read in school. Astronomy was my favorite topic. I read about Nicolas Copernicus, Galileo, how he was put under house arrest for the remainder of his life, by the Inquisition, and about Girodano Bruno getting burned at the stake in 1600. I read about EVOLUTION!!! Yeah! But when I was 17, I was not allowed to express my views on the world. I was told to shut up. We need more young people speaking up. I say, good for Greta Thunberg!!! I don't know if she's 21 yet, but I think she should run for public office. Come to Texas, and get on the state board of education. I would vote for her in a New York minute! Run for Congress! Yeah! Set a new record for the youngest person to run for a public office! Do it! Do it! Just do it!

Yes, if we can reflect back on our earlier lives, all of this consumption of goods and home renovating wasn't going on to the extent of now. This mania driven by advertising, for gutting and redecorating, new cars, etc, is ridiculous. And the extent of it will become apparent when sea levels rise into the massive garbage dumps we've created. All that toxic plastic and rubbish will end up in the sea. So we can all reduce and plan better for our waste. We can buy less based upon need, not want.

A quick read of the concluding notes (main arguments) of COP26 for example - The sentences always start with phrases like “the meeting notes“ and “recognizes the concern“ and “It urges…“ etc etc. In reality, COP has zero executive powers, nor is legally binding. It is simply saying and hoping, that something will be done. Consequently, bureaucracy and economics makes sure that “business as usual” will follow through. Nations big and small are out to fool each other or pass the blame, while the planet burns and floods en mass. The annual event is basically surrounding a large political specter and not an environmental one. She is So right. But I don't hear any solution proposal from her. No politician will fix this.

I mean she's of course completely right. But let's be honest, if it only took her a few years to get to this point she's not really cut out for the activist life which generally involves decades of futile efforts for minor change.
