@@jerbear97 I'd argue this drummer's style is more jazz influenced/soulful than your average math rock drummer, his feel is very distinct imo. Takashi plays _a_ _lot_ of notes, he's highly energetic, even frenzied. It's true even for his non-math rock projects- he loves to fill up the space he's given. What makes him a masterful drummer is that even though he's playing a lot, his work never sounds overcrowded because of his volume control and disciplined control of rhythm. There are some math rock drummers that sound similar, but to me, the conventional 'every other math rock drummer' sounds much more trimmed down, controlled, or even spartan compared to Toe.
Thank you, Toe. I've listened to you guys ever since college was tough, living alone was rough, relationships were breaking, friends were hurting. You enabled me to restart again. Thank you for your music. I wouldn't be here without you, guys. Stay phenomenal.
this is the only band i know where the live / not fully mastered versions of their songs just sound better than their recordings on the album. These songs gain so much from a live performance its surreal, one of my all time favorite bands!!!
I was lucky to see them play live in Shanghai, 2019. I traveled alone from another city two hours away just to go see them, and it was really worthy, a once-in-a-life-time experience.
@@jaspberry yeah! that's right, it was awesome man, I remember they were kinda drunk that night, but still played awesomely hah I remember there was a show in Beijing too though
Man, Ionno why but every time I hear Latest Number it always makes me cry. Their music has such a wonderfully human quality about it that transcends language barriers and hits you right in the feels. I will always be grateful they exist and that I got to see them once and had my mind completely blown.
I don't know if you are going to read this comment, but I want to tell you that you guys are incredible and I hope that you will continue making music for many years, a lot of love for you from Peru.
Fun fact: it's called 'Where Are My Ears?" because the first (recorded?) version of it was played during the filming of Doku-En-Kai. The band is jamming while they wait for Yamazaki's in-ear monitors to be fixed. Pretty cool to think that they may have made it up on the spot, and now it's something they play to transition into The Latest Number.
not only that but also i think the mixing here is much more dynamic and crisper than the album version, like every instrument is perfectly balanced. even when the playing gets aggressive you can still make out the tiniest details
Incredibly talented musicians. Toe is severely underrated and underappreciated. You guys are like a breath of fresh air in the music world. Thank you for making the music that you do.
Japan was absolutely slaying in the early 2000's with Toe, The Back Horn, Envy, Downy, Asia Kung-Fu Generaton, Number Girl. Cornelius, Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her, and Acidman to name a few.
@@whatdothlife4660 early 2000s Japanese music regardless of genre all encompasses a melancholic yet beautiful vibe, probably my favorite era in music history
You are truly a gift ! Thank you for doing what’s natural to you and being so damn amazing 💕 I think I can say it feels like a gift every time you release something to us 🙏
thank you toe, thank you for understanding music and make us feel what no other band can, for sounding just as in the studio versions, for being such great musicians and after all these years still producing great stuff. we love you from everywhere in the world
Thanks so much for posting this... Your music has been a wonderful escape from the weirdness that has dominated this year. It always puts me in a positive head space.
Thank you toe. At my most difficult moments, I always seem to fall back on you guys. Ever since I first heard your music, it's been something that resonates with me to help me keep pushing forward through the insanity. Thank you for all the things you've made.
Will always love you guys! You played here 4 years ago and in the same night i asked a woman i was dating to be my girlfriend. 3 years later, same date, you guys came, played again, and became a part of our 3rd year anniv haha. I guess toe really is magic!
@@sarinhakaki I know but I was solid broke at the time so couldn't make the trip or afford the tickets :P if they were to come back, I surely would go see them
