Francis Ngannou grew up with no friends, alone because his Father was an abusive drunk who was hated in the community for his violence. So Francis vowed that he would never be like his Father and he would be a respectful man, he moved around to loads of schools, worked in the sand mines to pay for his schooling, see's a video of Mike Tyson and has a dream. Move out of his village to his capital, trained but he wasn't never going to get his dream there so he sold his motorbike and left without telling his Mother because he couldn't tell her where he was going because he had no destination, just a dream. So he travelled to Nigeria, hiked to Algeria, made it to Morocco where he lived in the woods as a nomad, alone. Then climbed the concertina wires wall of Melilla 6 times, got in a raft 6 times and got caught and sent 100's of miles back into the desert and on the 7th time he made it to Spain. Where then he spent 1 month in jail until he was released. He then made his way to France and when he arrived he was put into a refugee camp but left, lived in carpark with a smile on his face knowing there was no police coming to drag him back to the desert. Going into every boxing gym he saw asking them to train him because he wanted to be the Heavyweight Champion of the world. And he did, but in MMA but he couldn't let that boxing dream go away. So began negotiations with Dana white to make the fury fight and he was having none of it. He tried setting Francis up with a bad fight on his last fight when Francis had a bad knee and defied the odds and beat the guy the UFC hand picked to beat him. Then gave up everything he built and took the risk to have one chance at Tyson Fury. Tonight that dream came true and everyone will respect him now, no matter what the judges say.
I think that Ngannou's freakishly-rare HW athleticism, as well as his ability to absorb & utilize some top-tier training, allowed him to put on a ridiculously impressive performance against one of the best heavyweights in the sport. And since Ngannou's had plenty of experience fighting at an elite level as a mixed martial artist, this no doubt allowed him to retain a sense of calm & focus that most first-time pro boxers would lose at an event like this. I dislike the tendency that boxing fans have to use losses -- or in this case, perceived losses -- to tear a fighter like Tyson Fury down (& even his past opponents, like Deontay Wilder), instead of giving full credit to Ngannou for his work ethic, athletic prowess, mental focus, & granite chin. I'm still looking forward to the now-postponed Fury/Usyk matchup, and perhaps even moreso, the inevitable contest between Wilder & Ngannou.
@@benitolazio8193 He was the HW champ. He beat one of the best HWs of all time in Stipe Miocic. To call Ngannou 'average' is to admit you know fuck all about MMA.
Carl, please please - never change. I cannot get enough of your no-bullshit, honest commentary on boxing. In a time where most pundits/commentators have no spine - thank you for being a voice of reason and risking your standing with friends and colleagues to share your opinion with your fans. You’re a world champion Hall of Famer, nobody can say you don’t deserve to share your views. I love it. 💪
Indeed. This is the best synopsis of boxing I've ever heard, aside from Teddy Atlas. Teddy has lost jobs because he is so honest and blunt. Not many people have the courage to speak about corruption in boxing, they will make disguised references but never explain it this clearly.
Francis is a class Champion, his grace and calm win everything. He is also 100% gentleman. Look at his behavior towards his mum and family and how he gives interviews post fight.❤
Carl's commentary on the boxing scene has been consistently exceptional. With his growing fanbase securing him more regular spots on mainstream platforms, I was really worried he would curb his honesty - but I'm soooo glad it hasn't! Consistently brilliant and always keeping it real. 👏🏼
@@DL_UK Dude .. grow a spine. You’re embarrassing yourself. Even your crush would be embarrassed reading that moronic conspiracy bs. Just dry your tears, go outside and touch grass.
Yeah, i second that. I thought i would see the majority of boxing heads deny reality and not give Francis the credit he deserves, and tbh so far the only wild take ive seen was from Lennox. Credit where credit is due also to the uk commentary team for keeping it 100. USA commentary was the literal opposite of uk team, so biased it was shocking.
Glad you touched in Ngannou's character. When he was attempting to negotiate a new contract with the UFC, part of his request were improvements to all UFC fighters contracts and conditions. This was as important as a better deal for himself. And ultimately I think that's why the UFC did not resign him. All the way through negotiations and after he thanked the UFC for what they have done for him. He never once slagged them off but at the same time he never wavered from his request for other fighters.
"No man alive (except Ngannou) can beat my son... Not a man born from his mother (except Ngannou) can beat my son... HE CAN'T BE BEATEN (EXCEPT BY NGANNOU)"
Yep that should be taken into account in boxing, and look at the faces after. Tysons all battered Nganoou could just go straight out for a sit down meal..
Yeah it looked like Fury was the one that didn’t belong in the ring. His main advantage was using his weight to tire out an opponent and he got manhandled on the inside/outside & clinch.
Everybody forgets that Francis has always wanted to be a boxer and has trained boxing all his career, even in MMA he mainly used his boxing, he rarely used any kicks and hardly any grappling.
Had a very humbled look on his face after that fight last night. And when facing off with Usyk, no shouts of ‘gappy tooth’ or middleweight’… Just a look of ‘I could be in trouble in December…’
This is bang on, he looked watery eyes. No bold and brash screaming or post fight singing. He looked uncomfortable when usyk put the 23rd out there. Even though all week the entire fury camp were stating they had something on usyk for the 23rd, and they were going to out it. Old shoulder roll frank was shitting a brick and fumbling that date back sharpish.
That was really a breath of fresh air. With Francis, pro-boxing world and its pundits were shown the emperor's new clothes, so to speak, and how in MMA things are far more down to earth, the top dogs fighting each other multiple times a year, not avoiding risks, dont minding losing, always putting in heart.
I agree with everything you say. Tyson underestimated him and thought he had won that fight before it had begun! You could see he had not trained properly, looked slow, moved badly and after the second round seemed to lose confidence. He never looked like he could hurt Ngannou.
Fury couldn’t rag doll him. Francis was too strong, too instinctive, too aggressive. Ngannou looked literally stronger than him and actually manhandled Fury. Good counter and a hard chin. He would beat Fury in a rematch.
At least people are calling it as it is. They did this to protect tyson's contract against usyk. How dumb would it look to fight the best for a unification whilst losing to a MMA fighter
I loved how every time he tried to lean on Francis he just got casually shrugged off like it was nothing. Francis is immensely strong and Fury met his match.
I come from a family of boxers and, having watched the Buster Douglas, Tyson fight back in the day, knew Francis was very capable of an upset. For the first time in my life I placed a sports bet- 50€ on Frances and would have won somewhere around 400€ if the judges had got it right.
Fury won the fight. Francis threw him off with his awkwardness but only won 3 rds clearly. Never bet on boxing is what my dad told me in the 80s. he spoke from experience
@@rmc4091 yes wide points win froch could only fight one way joe far faster on a different level one opponent in common kesler carl wouldnt stand a chance with joe
Ngannou was brilliant, I didn't give him any credit before but his counter punching and ring awareness were class. He won that and anyone with half a brain for boxing could see it. There's a reason Tyson is so downbeat and sheepish.
Ngannou's strength and technique in the clinching exchanges absolutely destroyed Fury's stamina and zapped his strength. Fury has relied on leaning and grappling his opponents to tired and weaken them but that completely back fired. Coupled with Ngannou's solid basics and composure.
You talk about Fury fighting once or twice a year but this was Francis' first fight after 2 years, coming off a huge ACL injury to top it off! The fact that Francis made it so close against the champ is insane
I keep saying the same thing as in previous comments Carl is totally spot on, he knows his stuff. I just wish boxing wasn’t always about the money, Fury lost this fight but there’s too much money at stake & that’s why he got the decision. Great channel Carl keep it going buddy.
Never underestimate a fighting beast. Fury underestimated Ngannou. Big mistake. People are saying that Fury looked tired and overweight. He clearly thought that it would be an easy night's work.
I wish Fury would Retire, give us all a break his bullshit and John furys ridiculous ranting . Ungannou and Usyk the Best Roll Models, altho Wilder and Aj are OK Too. Aj bit Embarrasing after the 2nd defeat by Usyk, but He is still Likeable Enough.
I thought Ngannou won the fight fair and square. Fantastic performance. Other than Carl Frampton, I felt all the British ex boxers, who were there, were bias in favour of Tyson Fury, perhaps because they're mates with Tyson. Good to see Carl Froch saying it as it is. Think Ngannou should join the pro-ranks now and get himself a fight against a top 10 contender. If he wins that, and I think he will, I wouldn't be surprised to see Ngannou fighting for the world title in Saudi Arabia next year. He deserves his shot at the title seeing as he's already beaten the WBC world champion!
Look above, I never made any reference to Fury toying with him, don't know where you got that from. Fury looked uncomfortable throughout and that's credit to Ngannou. @@ChrisThornburn-ke5xk
Ring rust is a pretty poor excuse considering Ngannou hasn't fought in 2 years and has never boxed. His defense and composure were properly impressive. Fury was throwing lots of really nice feints and Franics just wasn't biting, he didn't look nervous at all, had decent head movement and blocked most of Fury's uppercuts. All in all, I thought it was a really solid performance. Then you consider that none of Fury's shots bothered him at all, and he was the stronger guy on the inside, it just looked like Fury had no answers.
It’s not a excuse but francis clearly never won the fight, froch is a hater, he even try to say bruises prove francis won, if that’s the case then chisora and AJ beat usyk, Francis lost on punch stats, he lost on defence, his footwork wasn’t better, he lost on all aspects when scoring a fight except one, and winning on one aspect isn’t possible as you score a fight based on all aspects
@@mufasaisalive5031 he’s been hating on fury a while and AJ, I watched his other video and he’s saying bruises show who won the fight, you know yourself that proves nothing, people say Francis won but can’t seem to explain how, people clearly don’t know how to score a fight, too many casuals get exposed in the comments. Are you one that thinks Francis won ?
I'm shocked beyond belief. I love MMA but boxing was my first love as far as fighting goes so I thought Fury edged him out. But as fighting goes, who you want to win or how you think things will play out really impacts how you see things unfold the first time you watch the fight. No other sport compares to fighting in this regard. I honestly thought Francis looked great but Fury was sharper and landed more scoring shots. Obviously I was watching from a biased perspective. Not because of the fighters involved but because I wanted to see boxing maintain it's prestige. I'll definitely be watching it again.
I can’t stand fury but I believe he edged him out I had 4 definite rounds to fury and 3 to Francis and the other 3 I’d just about give to fury but it was close very close
The wresling background of Ngannou definitly helped him. Fury is great in the clinch and uses his weight and size to pressure down opponents and he couldn't used it effectively against Francis. I wonder what would of happen with 2 more rounds, Francis looked like he had more energy at the end of the fight then Fury
Agreed I noticed that as well. One of the main tactics Fury likes to use, is by clinching and putting all his weight on the opponent, then after a few rounds, that helps tire the opponent out. He couldn't do that with Ngannou at all, he was useless in the clinch against him, and at times, Ngannou wasn't even allowing him to clinch, then Fury would get countered.
Wouldve been 2 more rounds in the bag for Fury with the jab, Ngannou did absolutely nothing the last 2 rounds. Someone mentioned that "powers that be" told him to stop throwing which would be very interesting and could be a viable explanation why he literally didn't throw anymore punches after having a very good round 8
At the time I thought Ngannou was robbed. Btw, I predicted before the fight that Ngannou would win by knockout. I just scored the fight and have it 96-95 for Fury. The fist two rounds I scored for Fury, nothing happened from either fighter but Fury for me won on workrate and largely the jab. 10-8 for the third for Ngannou. Scored round 4 even, 5 and 6 for Fury, 7 and 8 for Ngannou, with 9 for Fury and 10 as an even round. The scorecard does not tell you the fight. I agree with you completely about Fury and the jab against a big shot from Ngannou. I just do not think Ngannou did enough with the big shots on a regular basis. He landed a few, not as much as I first thought, but did a lot of damage. If Ngannou did not stand off so much and went for it, I believe he well could have won by knock out. Fury did have quite a lot left though and would have dug deep. All this inactivity for Fury is terrible.
Before the fight I predicted some sh*t akin to the Logan-Danis fight. More scripted and staged bullsh*t. Protecting the image of "their man" and that's what we got.
I only had Ngannou 3,4 and 8. Other close rounds I thought Fury was just more active, think if Ngannou had a slightly better gas tank he could have won some of them rounds.
That hook Ngannou landed to knock Fury down was a classic Mike Tyson counter hook. Can tell Tyson trained him, and who knew Mike's style would work for Ngannou; he didn't peek-a-boo but quite a few of the punches were very Tyson-esque.
Yeah like what MMA fighters do in the clinch, rather than just holding, they use dirty boxing and are very active in the clinch defensively too because they have to be against Muay Thai fighters (looking to throw elbows and kees) and grapplers who are looking to work for take downs. Future boxing opponents will also have a tough time inside against Ngannou.
What a load of nonsense, Fury outboxed him and won. It was a poor display and he didn’t look great but it is a boxing match where the scoring is based on actual boxing not damage absorbed! UYSK absorbed more damage than AJ in their last fight but lost on boxing ability. Fury won fair and square.
Fury looked and sounded embarrassed in his interview at the end, the result shows how corrupt Boxing is, Fury lost..what a total joke, can't stand Fury, at least this has ruined his legacy in thinking he was the best
@@paulmcdonough1093 you know I was pretty convinced Carl’s fan base didn’t have a single brain cell between em…. Didn’t know it could get as bad as you lad
This is the best video I've seen on the Fury vs. Ngannou fight. Thank you for covering the whole gamut. You spoke about how polite Ngannou is at the end of the fight; people did not recognize how intelligent and wise Ngannou is (his quiet African accent cloaks his razor sharp mind). You also mention Ngannou's physical stature; his physical strength and speed were ignored by people making predictions. But you cannot ignore such a discrepancy--Fury had 50 pounds more body fat on him, and Francis weighs somewhere around 280 pounds of natural lean muscle, no extra fat. And Francis is a clean athlete, having been in USADA testing for many years, and never failing any tests, despite being the strongest heavyweight in UFC history. People ignored Francis's attributes, and tried to pretend that Fury would win based on experience alone. In retrospect, people should feel dumb for doubting Francis.
Man, your superior power of hindsight puts as mere mortals to shame. How could we be so dumb and arrogant that we would expect a boxing specialist and a word champ to control a boxing fight against a newbie? I apologize. As a repentance I'll leave Internet for... a 30 minutes.
@@ramieskola7845 Hey I'm proud to get one right. I haven't picked many fights correctly in the last couple years, so I'm going to gloat over the Ngannou pick. 😆
@@Nautilus1972He got embarrassed. Can’t imagine how much of a knock to Fury’s ego it must have been to have spent months calling himself the GOAT only to then get knocked down by an amateur and then have to win on a rigged points decision and all in front of boxing royalty
And this is the crux of why Ngannou did so well against him. It's not because Ngannou is a good boxer because he's not great, but Fury always just 1-2's and then ties up the opponent. He couldn't do that with Ngannou so he was out of options. Usyk toys with Ngannou imo.
@@Itsmetheworldsgreatestup for the fight? He's already delayed it again 😂 When has he been up for any top fight since he held the belt? Calls out everyone and takes the easiest fight. Got exposed last night. Looked awful vs chisora and whyte. No chance does he take the usyk fight
Bet he weasels out of fighting Usyk, Joshua, and Andy Ruiz Jr. This all while social media theorizes these dream fights as going his way. He, in fact, is doing what Manny Pipsqueak Pac-Man did. Let social media marginalize Bud Crawford so he doesn't get my ass kicked.
Boxers tend to have bad performances after a long layoff. Fury had a terrible performance against Wallin and then performed brilliantly straight after against Wilder. He can beat Usyk.
Carl nearly laughed when she did too the way she throws things in mid answer too i can imaginethem havingba good relationship. Shes obvioisly relaxed isnt she 😅
Knew nothing about Ngannou before this fight, but what a great fighter. Very respectful too and a really likeable big guy. It would be great to see more of him against the other big heavyweights.
Carl, you are my hero for bringing up the 'hold me back John thing.' You have said what everyone on Earth is thinking about that deluded man. We are all sick of him!
Ngannou was criticized for looking too much like a brawler in the beginning of his mma career, he just fell into mma but he was pursuing boxing even then. His “awkward” boxing style has been with him a lot longer than I think some people realize. I still didn’t think he was gonna do this well, but I’ve learned to never count out ngannou after the Cyril fight
Absolutely spot on Carl. I had it 6 rounds to 4 to Francis. With the knockdown i thought it was clear. Tyson was lunging, winging in shots in desperation and was out of ideas from round 2. Boxing needs to clean up its act now as its driving fans away with such blatant corruption. UFC as a product, brilliant fights start to finish and very little filler. Boxing we are lucky to get one other decent fight on an undercard, too many belts and fighters dodging each other. Ryan Garcia and Terrance Crawford posted about this recently and I fully agree. Something needs to change and boxing needs to clean up and do some dofferent things. Last nights reaults just hurt boxing, Tyson lost that fight, myself and most pundits thought prior Tyson would box his head off by Francis didnt play his game, didnt rush, was composed and patient and landed clean shots forcing Tyson to come over his front foot and Francis working on counters. Brilliant game plan and he executed. Sad night for boxing purists to see and admit but Francis should now be champion.
Totally right Carl, Saudi money bought the Judges, Francis is a real man, Tyson should take note, don’t be surprised if he retires, the Fury’s have held heavyweight boxing long enough
yes ruined the sport, WBC are to blame allowing the heavyweight champ to fight Whyte, Chisora and Francis over the last 30 months, disgraceful!! he should retire as hes not what boxing needs.. hes a selfish greedy man who has only beat one good fighter and that was an aging Vladimir..
I'm seeing how Terrence Crawfords wrestling history is very helpful for his boxing career. The balance and being able to manhandle your opponent is showing to be extremely helpful in boxing!
Fury needed that humbling his ego was getting out of control. Funny becuase this is the same feeling i had when Fury beat Wilder in the 2nd fight as Wilder needed that humbling too.
Carl you’re 100% spot on with what you said. I love how you just say it as you see. You deserve every success with your RU-vid channel. Please always stick to this formula of keeping it real and true to your beliefs. Top man 💪🏼
I think Ngannou should fight the winner between Fury and Isyk for the Undisputed World heavyweight title. I think that's a fight everybody would want to see..Ngannou deserves a rematch for the title.
Even before the fight started it seemed that Fury didn't want to be there. His eyes told me he was lacking in confidence during the ringwalk. I think he has lost the hunger for boxing. I believe he will finally quit boxing cause he knows now he won't beat Usyk, i don't think he would even beat AJ after last nights performance. He has made his money, kept his unbeaten record but his legacy has been ruined.
@@MarkyB1 well before this fight he was regarded as the best Heavyweight of this era of Heavyweights. Thats some sort of legacy. As Froch said, that legacy is now in tatters.
Loved how when Tyson tried to muscle him the elbows and forearms came up as if to say I don’t think so mate I’m not having it. Fury usually relies on the fact that he can rap his fat body around his opponents wearing them down , Francis was tough and for a first time pay per view boxing match against a lousy world champion he was bloody awesome.
Fury is the only British fighter I know in History that I can remember where the vast majority of home fans actually want to see get beat, 'against anyone'.

I personally think fury won but feels like a loss. The elbow for me should’ve been a point deduction, which if given would’ve gave fury the loss in my view, But without that I think fury did win. But way to close. More punches landed on more rounds. Don’t agree with the big shots taking priority over connected jabs as you could just run around the ring and win a round with one hard punch each round by that logic, ie bouncing around like ksi and throwing in one big hit then running off. But the vid is great and hope you always keep these up. Awesome vids
The one judge that had it 96 to 93 was about right Even giving the third a 10 -8 round I had Fury winning . he didn't take the fight seriously and actually dispalyed lazy footwork.
I think your assessment was spot on,I doubt very much that there will be a rematch,I think Tysons head was gone and he totally underestimated Francis,I’ve still got a feeling he will beat Usyk though🤔
And people think Fury is the best HW ever 😂 not a chance, he doesn't even make the top 10 and losing to a UFC fighter will tarnish all of his career achievements thus far. Usyk must be licking his lips.

I’m a big fury fan I do believe he won by a small margin but fury didn’t seem himself during the fight and certainly afterwards he wasn’t the fury I remember he didn’t seem happy he looked quite shocked to me maybe even humbled . There was just something different about his personality
Totally agree. I believe judges should really do a press conference after big fights to explain how they scored the fights. They need to be held accountable so they can bring credibility back to the sport. It was a close fight but to save the arguments, I feel this needs to start happening.
I am a judge and I 100% agree, there have been many times when I have wanted to explain myself and give my reasoning but it always get brushed under the rug and then on to the next event.
Thinking about this more, there's no way that AI can't be better than human scoring. We have cars driving themselves by analysing camera data. But for now every moment that judges score can be recorded, then can be compiled into a video. So we can all see what was scored right/wrong or missed, and all judges can be compared
Using Fury's logic, with his "lineal" title. Even though he didn't put the belt up, or put it on his official record. Ngannou beat him therefore is the lineal heavyweight champion right now.
