Haiden Deegan made history in many ways on Saturday night. Not only is he the first 250SMX champion, but he also just won his first indoor race and title! Haiden and Brian Deegan discuss that in this Vital MX video.
I think the “this is a learning season” mentality has been a huge benefit for the kid. It’s taking some of the pressure off the kid, in an already high pressure scenario. I’m definitely a fan of the kid, and this whole 250 class this year has been better to watch than the 450s.
Ditto. Thanks so much for giving the time Brian. There are so many people that truly enjoy the interviews and insight. It gives us personal stakes in routing for Hayden
"You want respect....go get it." Loved hearing this from Brian in a world full of entitlement! Haiden is literally proof that we raise our kids to work hard and "earn" respect they will achieve great things! Great job Brian, your sons success also reflects on you as a father!
The kid had opportunities that he was born into but HE capitalized on it and earned this title.yes he's a rich kid but he has the talent the money didn't give him talent
I'm at a loss for words , I'm so proud of Haiden. I will never forget Washougal. I knew then there was a real chance at a championship. I also will never forget his emotion at the end of Moto Two . When it hit him that he truly was the first SMX 250 champion 🏆. And to see th whole Deegan family there to hug him and share in the experience. God bless you, young man . Enjoy the ride and rest up . Stay humble, stay safe, and stay cool 😎
@stevedouglas1654 I bet it was really something to see live . I was on the edge of my seat . I was exhausted when it was over, lol . Thanks for commenting 🙂
Most impressive thing about Haiden this year has been his consistency. How often do you see a rookie have his composure? If Hampshire, for example, had this composure he would have multiple championships.
Absolutely. Does he have maturing to do? Yes? Has he done a lot already ? Yes. So many times when setbacks could have been much worse, championships seem to be often won on bad days, as in keeping it from being worse.
What his dad said about riding at 80 or 90 percent limit stuff happening is a great example of how Brian knowledge of all racing gives Haiden a huge heads up he studies thing like Jet Dungey and Villopoto
I really enjoy how all of Haiden’s siblings are there and are his biggest fans! I truly believe we all could learn from the example of family that Brian and Marissa have set. Great job and as a former motocross racer I truly enjoy watching and supporting Haiden.
I’m super happy and proud that he did it and what a way to end his Rookie season The DangerBoy is the Future and Congratulations to The Deegan Family #TheDeegans #HaidenDeegan #BrianDeegan
Great job Haiden. Watching Haiden come up thru the ranks all these years on the KTM's I was kind of surprised when they announced he signed with Yamaha.
Trying not to be bias, which is near impossible for me right now because I am fully on board on the Deagan train, I think that was one of the best interviews I’ve seen (especially with Brian) you asked every question I think that wrapped up a whole season in one short interview. And Brian’s comment, “You want respect man, go out there and get it”! That was awesome, and once again Sir Haiden Rose to the occasion. In all, congratulations to all the riders, and thanks for the show!
WOW! Maybe the best interview that I've ever watched. I always liked Brian even when he was a young J*ckoff but the way he has supported and raised his children is very impressive. His knowledge of the sport is incredible, and he is just passing it down to Haiden at a speed that Haiden can use and absorb. Good job Dad!
I’m not a parent but I understand wanting to see tour kids do better than you. Brian got that pleasure early in life achieving a starting achievement in his career greater than one of deegans greatest in his motocross career. Life coming full circle. Looking forward to watching where they all go.
Dude Deegan was a desert rat by way of Missouri. Around his win he talked about he was running with Seth and the Crusty guys. That was the real Deegan, this is the Tool Deegan, but he is a real dad for sure, and for that and a few cold beers in Ocotillo for a 17yr old punk from Missouri long ago, I give my respect.
What a great dad and son team, hats off to the whole team as well. Look forward to watching your career develop from the UK and love to all your family x
With all he has accomplised so far, Haiden is incredible grounded. He has some great values. It was a great choice to go with the Yamaha program when you made that decision
Just crazy impressive not only that a 17 year old kid can be a beast like that, but the composure is crazy good. 55 and lifelong Mx fan, gotta say nothing is better than seeing new generations coming up and winning.
Can’t say enough about Hayden Deegan, I’m 54 years old and he has literally my favorite athlete. His success comes from nothing but hard work and his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
I ran into Brian at supercross in Texas this past season. Such a cool down to earth dude. I wish nothing but continued success for both him and his family.
Bryan knew early on that being a dad is not gonna be all about him but all about his family, how many athletes we've seen to this day that couldn't let go and pass it along. Thats why im sure this win is extra special for Bryan, his fam and their team.
Wow! Brian is the best dad ever! I never would've guessed that 20 years ago, but here we are. Knows exactly what to say to Haiden, and it worked. Well done~!
Brian nailed it on the head. If Haiden went out there and wrecked everyone, the season wouldn't have been nearly as exciting to watch. Congrats to Danger Boy and the Deegans!!! Legendary family.
Horse shit....Danger-dud was pissing his leathers trying to catch Jo for pay-back.....it would have been better had it played out that way. Shimoda is the better rider
while interviewing the general, interviewer referred to Haiden by name once, referred to Cooper's thought process running in 3rd as to not being "the Haiden thing" once, "your son" once, "the kid" once, 7 or 8 times "your kid"... sports journalism at its finest ✌️🐝➕
Arm chair moto thoughts here so take it for what it is worth. Everything they are doing is working, so hard to find issue with it, especially when you see they are actively making changes as a team... But I would love here them discuss my thought below. When the track is tacky and does not allow for tire slip, he seems to have some trouble. His balance tends to shift to the outside and you can see he is maintaining balance with the arms and not his legs and core. It's a similar to the difference in turning feel when you go from a bike to a quad. Saw it at Thunder Valley and in a few parts of some tracks throughout the year. Last night in the first moto the track while slick on the base showed some signs of that same kind of tacky dirt and appeared to see that type of situation develop. The second moto the track had lost most of its moisture and was looser in the spots that had been tacky allowing his normal style to shine. If I am correct this issue will be more pronounced when he gets on a 450 in similar conditions.
You can just tell by the way Brian talks about the Colleseum how special a place it is to him and his own legacy in motorsport. One thing for sure now is that haters are gonna be raging. Mamma Deegan called it not so long ago telling them both we are here to win. Well done hell of a first year. Now unplug go rest spend time as a family we will all be here for the next part of the journey when you come back. What would be great for the Deegan clan is Hayley now getting her own championship win.
Brian nailed it with the comment about him wanting to love dirt bikes. I was a 2 sport college offer guy and I was so burnt out with both sports I gave up on both. I could have possibly had a good life as a professional athlete and look back and think how I blew it. But it just wasn't ment to be. But im glad he understands keeping that passion Haiden needs to have. All the best to the Deegans
Not a Deegan hater, in fact love what the family has done for the sport. But, I’m more of a hunter Lawrence fan. It’s crazy how good of a rookie season Deegan has had. His dad is probably so stoked! All of the hard work over the past how many years is starting to pay off. I love hearing people talk about how he has had everything handed to him. That doesn’t mean shit. You can give a guy a rifle, fishing pole and a grill, doesn’t mean he’ll be able to feed himself. It’s been up to haiden since day one to put in the work himself. You can’t buy the skills he has on a bike. He’s gnarly as heck.
Great job as a father and mother raising their children to be respectful and working hard for what they want. All the kids are a class act. First of many championships to come.Stay cool you guys
God Bless the Deegans , Congratulations To Haiden Deegan ,So Very Proud of You & All The Hard Work , U did All Year Long !!!! Day In & Day out ,I’m sure as a 17yo That’s hard to see & comprehend, But U Have no Better a Coach / Father , As Ya do ,,, & As A TEAM !!! Down the Road ,I see nothing but Huge Success For You . As a Good Motto ,, Never Get To High Or To Low ,,I’m Very Impressed for all ya Done , Year 1 & Nothing But Success & Blessings In The Future,,, 🎉😅 ,,,,,, Keep Digging & Lettin It Rip !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Haiden looked like he was struggling with traction ALOT in moto 1, idk if it was the bike or nerves making his throttle control off, cause it seemed like every corner he was just spinning. Brian did say he had arm pump so I’m sure that contributed. But super pumped for the kid well deserved.
Man I don't know if it's the HDR on my TV but damn Brians vaneers were nearly blinding me. The camera having trouble adjusting the contrast haha. All jokes aside congrats to Haiden. He's fun to watch.
Just shows that starting something rad that you can pass onto your kid(s) is a great way to ensure their success. Gotta be there pushing and teaching them, surrounding them with good, like-minded individuals and a “team”. That’s how you build generational success that doesn’t fizzle out because you hand them a fortune and they blow it.
The 3 Yamahas getting infront in moto 2 probably did seal the deal indeed. Kitchen setting the pace and the other 2 just following without fighting eachother.
1000% right there... Levi set the pace for Haiden to follow and Coop knowing he wasn't in contention kept Jo at bay and didn't press Haiden... total team effort in Moto 2
Excellent interview. It's so cool to see Brian lose that "misfit" edge and just be a normal guy who loves racing and loves watching his kid succeed. I guess they'll always be the rebels but not so much like the Mulisha days. It's just cool to see him come full circle because Brian was an amazingly talented racer especially as an amateur.
Brian is smart and that misfit edge was a brand he realized real quick would be what made him money and having the balls to risk life and limb doing shit on a dirtbike that's nuts
I have to say I wasn’t a fan just because I think he needs to be a little more humble, but I realize now he’s a kid that wants to win and there’s nothing wrong with that. The kid has a lot of heart and good work ethic . Congrats to Haden and his dad for getting him in with the right team. 👍
High confidence is a really important factor in riding a motorcycle well, and especially when we’re talking winning championships. Now being cocky isn’t good, but I think high confidence is 🔑
I’m so happy for the deegans n brain is the smartest guy in that hole industry he built himself a huge career then turned his entire famliy into millionaires he is a great guy with truly represents take care of your famliy n he can probably care less about the 500k he is making way more then anyone he literally gives everything to his kids a great father
