Thanks for the Barstow sunset!! My granddad worked in that yard there as security for Santa Fe. I spent a lot of my growing up years in Barstow because of my grandparents living there.

I remember seeing many Illinois Central as I lived in No.Ind. and travelled quite often to Chicago. When I was young,1956-7, I can remember seeing a couple old Pierre Marquette box cars! Their steam engines were long gone and they were out of business. There was still some steam hauling freight on Grand Trunk until 1958.BTW: My grandfather worked for G.T. He helped lay the first tracks in my hometown of So.Bend,In.

my grandpa and dad both worked for the IC back when it was steam. grandpa was a crew chief on a rail maintenance crew. my dad was a laborer 25 cents a day. it was all steam back in the 20's and 30's.

Back in the late 60s when 5th Army headquarters was located at Fort Sheridan, the only commuter train to the North Shore from Chicago [and back] was the "IC" [Illinois Central]. I didn't notice any freight trains labelled that way. In those days each company operated both pass and freight lines under the same name. In those days there were also 'smoking and no smoking cars'. The smoking cars' interiors were usually 'blue' with smoke. Now there is no 'IC' at all. Along with others like New York Central - which was my ride to Michigan. It doesn't seem that long ago. And last I knew - 5th Army was combined with 4th Army - in Fort Hood TX. Not even up with that anymore.

I shot that CSX with the LTEX switcher earlier in the day at Fostoria! Good shot! I also shot both LORAM’s heading west through Deshler a couple weeks ago. I wonder if it was the same pair?

Speaking of the "City of New Orleans", it is my considered opinion, that probably the best rendition is the Juke Box Band from Shining Time Station (the TV show). I'll put a link in a reply to this comment in case YT decides that it is a dangerous link and deletes the comment. In any case, searching for the song with "Shining Time Station" will quickly find it.

In Alamosa, Colorado there was ( maybe) still there is a company that restores old passenger rail cars. The guy who owns it is a big Illinois Central fan. They had a passenger run over the La Veta Pass. And he painted his cars in the Illinois Central paint. He has the original “Monte Graw” passenger car. Fully restored. It was on the La Veta run when I went on it in 2012. You maybe asking what is so special about that car? It was THAT CAR THE SONG WAS WRITTEN IN!! Steven Sipes

Super ending in Barstow, California. In my reading the gray KCS royal engine is part of the Mexico division. Three divisions it appears in one corporation. DOD interesting sharp looking caboose? Couldn't quite make out the lettering. That 19 BNSF power train has been going all over it seems. Was that snow on the ground in the desert Hesperia California? Sierras had the train engine snow plows out. A camera in the high mountians would be fun too. The construction trains are always fun, sparking away! . The Christmas carolers sounded really good. That was another huge Convoy tanks away! With another black sheep in the mix, two that is in the bunch. Canada has a unknown black engine to me. CSX was leading with a nice switcher engine. Is the gold black engine part of the black diamond NS fleet? Vintage engine? Those Mexico City engines look like they all have been washed waxed and shinned up. Always like so to see major large infrastructure stuff going by rail or barge. Less on the roads then, Safety First. The Canidea family I have troubles in decerning the Coyote and fox at times unless it is a red fox. Fun to see the wild Kanines. Today's kanine his gait appeared to be a fox to me I am a novice only. Thanks Addendum I see all those lovely private excusion cars....the Envy Class of Cars and engines including the steam start up . The steam engines trigger all the senses for sure. Wave of the day was NS engineer.
