For the voice of Boo, they literally attached a microphone onto a 2-year-old girl (Mary Gibbs) and followed her over the course of several days, and took whatever useful giggles, screams, burbles, phrases and other sounds from hours of footage to create her "dialogue" (plus a few things deliberately prompted in the studio). The same recordings have since been used for other Disney/Pixar baby voices, including Lion King 2, Inside Out, and the video game Kingdom Hearts 3. Must be nice for Gibbs, continuing to get new royalties decades later for "acting" you weren't aware you were doing!
@@DanielGonzalez-xu1hiShe was paid $1,000,000. Billy Crystal and John Goodman were paid 2 & 2.5 million, so yeah, she was paid pretty well for a 2 year old.
Mary Gibbs at 27 has returned to acting back in 2022 after she took a break from 2004. Her father, Rob Gibbs, animator and director for Pixar sadly passed on in 2020. Mary has her own RU-vid channel called Boo all grown up. Her father must have done animation for Monsters, Inc including Boo because she looks like little Boo.
As a father, there is NOTHING more touching than coming home after a long day, having your child be asleep and you just want to check in on them by peeping through the crack in the door... and they just cheer up and call your name like Boo does at the end... it not only melts your heart, but becomes one of the most touching memories you can have of your children.
Working night shift mine was the reverse. My boys (5 and 1) would climb into my lap and we'd watch Australia's Funniest Home videos. My then wife would usually have to wake me up to help her put them bed before going to work. Later, after remarrying, my 5 year old step-daughter would climb onto the recliner with me, hug my arm and go to sleep while I played Queen music videos for her. :D
Fun Fact, Magy: The voice of Randall’s red three-eyed assistant, Fungus, was voiced by *Frank Oz* who performed Grover, Cookie Monster, Bert, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and many others of the Muppets. But he’s also the man behind YODA. 😁
Sully's continuous fainting when i he thinks Boo has been squashed, had me rolling on the floor laughing with tears spraying from my eyes the first time a watched this.😂
I have to wonder if his reactions was an homage to the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Falling Hare" (1943) where he's getting sick and fainting while in a plane doing a nose-dive. It's a famous cartoon depicting him dealing with an aircraft gremlin.
The scene where Sully thinks he’s seeing Boo get crushed in the trash compactor is an homage to an old Looney Tunes cartoon, “Feed the Kitty.” A bulldog meets a kitten that isn’t scared of it, really cute!
That was a really heartwarming intro and you vibing to jazz music is a whole vibe, definitely not too much and you certainly didn't embarrassed yourself ❤ This movie introduces us to such an interesting concept, seeing monsters use kids' fear as fuel, making their entire monster society function. The emphasis on the relationships between characters is really beautiful: Mike and Sully, Sulley and Boo, Mike and Celia - they all stay true to each other, no matter how difficult things get. Boo was incredibly cute and the way she turned Sulley's world upside down, showing us just what a big heart he has - guaranteed to melt your heart. Randall was a really creepy villain for an animated movie, backstabbing everyone, ruthless and his entire way of being was just unsettling. @10:38 - Celia was probably inspired by Medusa. Medusa was a gorgon (ancient greek word meaning "dreadful" or "grim" or "scary") In the end, making the kids laugh and discovering that laughter is so much more potent than fear was such a beautiful resolution to the story. Sulley ended up changing the entire monster society along with his best friend and everyone else - all because one little Boo randomly stumbled into his life. Thank you for the beautiful reaction, nothin seems to brighten up your mood like animations do so it's always a special occasion whenever you react to one ❤
Fun fact: This is the second movie both John Goodman(Sulley) and Steve Buscemi(Randall) worked on. They previously worked together on The Big Lebowski(1998). Goodman was the one that convinced Buscemi to do the voice of Randall.
I wasnt expecting to break down crying. I lost my mom back in november of 2023 & this was a movie i remember seeing with her as a kid. I miss her so much & thinking of these childhood movies always gets me.
22:23 This is an homage to the old Warner Brothers cartoon with the characters Marc Anthony (a big, tough bulldog) and Pussyfoot (a cute little kitten that melts his heart). I wish Magy could see it because I'm sure she would think it was adorable.
What I like about the opening is this. Once the sim kid, scares the monster, and the monster screams. The movie is telling kids "Hey nothing to be scared about".
Little did you know.... Boo is not teleporting on accident, she DOES have superpowers! There are little easter eggs as to who Boo really is in the Incredibles 1, 2, and Brave which are other movies made by Pixar studios.
Wait, what? (My actual verbal response, also.) Incredibles 2 is the only one of those I have yet to watch (even though I got the DVD several years ago), so can you point me in the right direction for the others? Just, like, where to look? I was originally going to ask for explanations, but nah-just tell me scenes to examine. You’ve got me rather curious.
@@Armaldo468 Been a while since I've watched these, but I believe the official video is called The Pixar Theory. Big spoiler alert though if you haven't watched other pixar movies.
This is such a fun movie, it is to bad they quit making movies like these (Toy Story, Walle,Ants, etc). Your smiles and laughter really add a lot to the fun of your reaction Magy.
Monsters Inc was my second favorite Pixar movie as a Kid. The little girl Boo is so Adorable 😊. Mags I love that you are full of Joy & happiness, it makes me smile a lot 😃.
Boo must be Violet from The Incredibles when she was really little,I mean she literally gets out of sight without a sound, like the part where Sully takes a look just after Boo was done on the toilet, literally vanished as though she was never there at all, unless you're able to turn invisible nobody can get out of a cubicle silently and quickly when someone is literally just outside the cubicle itself 🤔
Fun Fact: Boo The Human Kid's Voice Actor's Name Is Mary Gibbs And Boo's Real Name Is Also Mary. And At Film making, Many PD Were Followed Her For All Day Long To Recording Her All Noise And Lines.
Rest in peace James Coburn 1928-2002 Steve Susskind 1942-2005 Joe Ranft 1960-2005 Steve Jobs 1955-2011 Roger Ebert 1942-2013 Dan Gerson 1966-2016 and Ralph Eggleston 1965-2022
Fun one, Magy! Such a sweet story. Thank you for sharing it. 🙂 Oh btw, the little green guy, you've seen (heard) him before in The Princess Bride. He was Miracle Max!
If you haven't already, go back and watch the ending credits. Pixar went the extra mile and created a blooper reel for the characters that's really pretty funny.
“23-19!!” My favorite Pixar, still. You need to find/watch The Company Play, if you haven’t. It’s TOO GOOD to not watch. I seem to recall it playing during the end credits,(on the dvd) though I could be mistaken.
When I was little this was always mine and my dad's favorite movie to watch for movie night. It's now been 8 years since my dad passed but I still continue to watch this movie to remember him.
One of my favorite movies. I'm glad you chose to react to it. Good job. If you have access, the movie was released with outtakes after the credits-- it looks like the crew had a great time making those.
I have never seen this movie, and all I can say is, I thought little Agnes ("It's so FLUFFAY, I'm gonna di-i-i-ie!") from Despicable Me was the most adorable thing - but this child is even more adorable! All after MAGY, of course, hahah.
19:28 24:27 26:06 26:20 32:05 Every time I’m attracted to more of Magy’s “Oi(s)” sounds, it made feel happy & warm on the inside just hearing it.😁 I never understood why but it’s adorable. 23:39 Also I have add in the jumpscare too🤣 I really enjoyed the Monsters Inc reaction, its one greatest Pixar classics there is.👍💯
I’m sure you know about the prequel Monsters University but there’s also a show called Monsters at Work. It’s pretty good. Season 2 is reported to be coming out sometime this year (about damn time).
Mags, the sushi restaurant Mike takes Celia to is named after famous special effects creator *Ray Harryhausen* who made mythical creatures come to life (by himself) using stop motion animation and combining then with live actors in films for three decades starting in the late 40s. I was fortunate enough to meet him! My favorite films of his that I think you’d enjoy: Jason and The Argonauts The 7th Voyage Of Sinbad Clash Of The Titans That last one you’d enjoy in particular because he animated two mythical creatures you mentioned here and in Harry Potter. Speaking of which, it features a young Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) 🧙♀️
One of the greatest. I saw him in person at a talk he gave at CU Boulder some years ago. He brought several examples along, like one of the 8 inch tall skeletons they fought against, and a little aluminum flying saucer from a movie. He showed a little film clip of a school project he did while a young student.
Rest In Peace James Coburn(1928~2002), The One Of The Greatest Classic Hollywood Actor And The Cast Member Of , And The Voice Actor Of Waternoose From ...
Sulley's reaction of fainting over and over is borrowed from the Chuck Jones cartoon Feed the Kitty where Marc-Anthony the bulldog believes that his kitten friend Pussyfoot, is being baked into a batch of cookies by his mistress and he watches through the window (as he was locked out for causing trouble in attempt to save Pussyfoot) and faints over and over again. Sulley's scolding Boo and then hugs her is also heavily inspired by Marc Anthony doing the same when he saves Pussyfoot from being discovered by his owner.
This is a really fun movie that hits so hard on the emotional level. Lots of stuff in it, including insider-references to animation itself. Great reaction! Pixar really makes fantastic movies - go ahead and do more of them.
I remember watching this movie first in the theatre when it came out for the first time. I was born in 1996, so I think I was 6 years old at the time. And then when it came out on VHS, I watched it quite a lot. Definitely a feel good film to go back to, and I enjoyed watching it with you Magy 😊😊😊 P.S. - what you said at 4:06 about being compared to Mike so many times … if I may say so, I think you’re much more beautiful than Mike is 🤭🤭
6:12: Mikey is the best! 👁️😄 Billy Crystal was perfectly cast! I love when he asks Sully for his “odorant” instead of deodorant! There’s also subtle expressions and body language he makes where the animators did a great job with him.
Notice the differences between Randall and Waternoose when it comes to how evil they both are when using the Scream Extractor on Boo? Randall is actually sadistically evil where he is enjoying the sight of how much Boo is going to suffer, meanwhile Waternoose is clearly bothered and knows how messed up using this machine on a child is. But he still believes it's a "necessary evil" in order to save their city from losing power. And Fungus (Randall's sidekick) is not okay with using the machine on Boo in anyway, and is probably the most sympathetic. Because the machine was used on him, he knows what the experience is like and is well aware of how this machine could likely kill Boo. :(
The big boss is James coburn, Old School Hollywood royalty! I think his first movie, is a all time classic and he had very few lines. A movie u should see. The 1950s, magnificent 7!
29:59 That moment Mike finally figures it out... I'm gonna call that a "Mike Moment"... Too bad he didn't keel over, too - it would have been a "Drop The Mike (Mic) Moment)"...
Magy, this might be my favorite reactions from you outside of Lord of the Rings. First off, you look so amazing and i love your laugh and smile. Second, this is totally one of my all-time fav animated movies along with Ice Age. You rock girl...stay safe and keep smilin, this world needs more of you.
1. This was actually the first movie I ever saw in theaters. Saw it twice as well. 2. You said, “literally,” correctly for once. And, then, you went back to saying, “litally.”
The decon scene where a monster was wearing a sock was a callback to the movie “Silkwood” which takes place in a nuclear facility and contaminated workers had to go thru an aggressive showering process.
My father rented us that movie when it still existed on videocassette 📼and every time I watch it it makes me cry with Boo. A story of the best, greetings from Mexico Magy, you are greatly appreciated, greetings and blessings from Mexico 🤗💙
Please please watch the brave little toaster next. One of the best animated movies ever but so so forgotten. This and the monsters inc. are the best ever
This is one of my favorite cgi movies. I love how organic the little girls vocalizations are and found out that since she wouldn't sit still in a sound booth, they let her explore the set and followed her with a sound recording crew. Giving her the freedom to explore the real world mde her so poignant in the Monsters Inc. world, i believe. Great reaction! You are always such a joy to watch.
I love monster Inc It's one of the best movies. Boo is so cute 🥺😭🥰She's like one of the best characters in the entire movie. Also Mike wazowski is amazing😂
I love that duet between Billy Crystal and John Goodman. The song "If I Didn't Have You" is fantastic. Also, if you don't recognize the voice of Mike's girlfriend Celia, that's Jennifer Tilly, best known as Tiffany, the love interest of Chucky.
