The hardest tune for Miles ever to get right... so he said.. Asked Monk in 50s after every gig - Did I play it right ? ... No, you didnt... Then, once ;) - You did.. This is great.

I would differ. He still couldn’t get it.
@tomasvanecek8626
@tomasvanecek8626 Год назад
@@anandapandya1 To be honest, I think the same.. Sometimes I love him, if just for a single slurred note.. you see? But overall, playing anything, he never had the genius of Parker (if you subtract his old school vibrato etc) .. so yes, Miles couldnt get a lot of things right

Miles still playing with some of the greatest jazz players and did play with probably the greatest Charlie Parker. He got it perfectly right.

@@RorertoLombardo There is no absolute perfection in jazz.. there´s a feel, and that was different - when Miles played Monk, it wasnt his mindset ever..

Thanks so much for this! I remember hearing Miles Davis live, first time, much later than this. And to be in that room with his sound was magic. Same with Mr Shorter, Mr Hancock. You say to yourself, these fellows really exist in our time and space. Remarkable, because to me , before, they were just magic sound and imagination preserved on recordings.

So much latent talent on one stage..., & youthful too! Herbie must have been all of 24yrs old..., & look at Tony! Maybe 17-18 yrs old..., and their musicianship was sounding mature at such young ages! RIP Wayne Shorter...,

Why did Miles look at you like that in the end on that second chord. What was wrong with it? It sounded good to me. Was there a note in it that he didn't like?
@dorengarcia7925
@dorengarcia7925 4 года назад
I think it was Mr. Hancock who once remarked "I hit the wrong chord, and Miles came in an with what he played made it work." That's just how Miles was, you might think he was angry or even rude but he was just listening intently and thinking.

He is turning towards Ron and Tony I think, calling the start of the next song.. the video ends abruptly because they immediately launch into it. Dunno if Herbie's spicy chords had anything to do with the sudden termination of Miles' cadenza. Maybe. It's nice not having the mood shattering applause between songs.
