Great video, man! My favorite way to carry a fixed blade when I’m not appendix-carrying my gun.
@powerart1

The crkt obake looks particularly cool carried this way.
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Hell yeah! Probably one of the coolest ones for both it’s design origin and of course the shape and overall design. Not terribly expensive either so I can see me grabbing one some day.

What an effective, reassuring communication style. Congratulations on your eloquence! And thanks for the vid. Disadvantage to me seems to be comfort, vs. attached outside the belt where it isn’t touching your skin, up front, and wearing long enough shirts where it’s plenty concealed.

Thanks a bunch! It’s a constant struggle and work in progress lol… You are indeed correct on those drawbacks. Depending on the knife though, such as in the Anaconda’s case, I actually find I forget it’s there sometimes. Every now and then though if you sit in a different position or bend over in certain directions, you’re immediately reminded via the sheath jabbing you in the hip 🤷‍♂️

I've heard it called the "rip-cord method" by the knife designer Lucas Burnley for his custom fixed blades and for the knife he designed for CRKT called the Obake

@@HardOnGearChannelwhat's the purpose of that ring at end of knife? Seems like it makes it more cumbersome

Samurai carry really sounds cool! 😅 I tried it all and ended up just putting my fixed blades into ma front pocket without clip or anything. Just turned out to be the most concealed and the most comfortable. But I'm waiting for a Kwaiken in the mail. I might try again to Samurai carry it, just for the sake of coolness! 😁👍
@HardOnGearChannel

Nice man! Thanks for giving it a go. The Kwaiken seems like a sick knife to carry like that 👌

Imagine if your belt loop break in a bad situation 😬😬😬😬I’ll probably tie it around the belt itself if your wearing one be more secure if you wearing cheap pants

Samurai carry is pretty cool, more of a fan of appendix or scout with the belt clip but would love to see a video from you about the Ka Bar TDI series.
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Thanks for the suggestion! I love the concept behind the TDI and I’ve got to handle the large version and love it. I’ll grab one of them one of these days and you’ll definitely see a video or two of me singing it’s praises and probably testing it out 🤙

Just be careful with the length of cord....so that the free swinging sheath doesn't smack you in your "junk". 👍🤣👍🤣 I used it for a CRKT Okami (I think). Update: it was a CRKT Obake, not "Okami".

I would use shorter cord. Your required pull length seems too long for cqc to me and my comfort. I don’t want my arm halfway extended in front of my body while an attacker may have drawn a weapon.

I've seen this done with the lanyard at the 2 o'clock (or 10 o'clock) and the sheath stuck in the hip pocket.
@jacobdelbridge9675

Hope this doesn’t sound dumb, but I’d there a specific knot you use, or a most efficient way to tie it around your belt loop/sheath?
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Not a bad question at all. I’m going to do an entire video on how to set a knife up for this carry option. For now: 1) Cut around 2-2.5 feet of paracord and burn both ends leaving a bit of bulb on each to keep the knot from slipping. 2) Feed one end through the bottom most rivets or connection point(s) of your sheath 3) Tie both ends together using a SQUARE (aka REEF) KNOT and ensure it is secure (turning the length of paracord into a loop). 4) Using a GIRTH HITCH, loop the end of the paracord loop around your belt or your belt loop. Those knots are super easy to learn/RU-vid if you don’t know them already. Hope this helps!

will it be a good idea to carry a knife concealed with this method when you are wearing thicker larger clothing in cold weather?
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Valid point, anything above the waste definitely gets tricky. I have carried it this way in winter, but I’d rather have something handle down and easily accessible on that case.
@Konstantinos340

ibeen edc-ing my kobun and my cs spike before that for years this way, no idea what it was called but it works well with the knot on sweatpants too if you aint wearing jeans or pants with belts etc all day. Shorts aswell if you live in a hot country like i do.
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Oh nice! I’ve never thought about that. Might be less secure (depending on the pants/shorts) but definitely a nice option 👌

Seems it would get in the way of your handgun if you AIWB. I carry my Glock 48 MOS appendix and a Toor Jank Shank at 2:00
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel Год назад
Absolutely I’m sure it would. The Jank Shank would definitely be a better pairing if you want multiple tools in front of you. I live in Canada, so I’m afraid my Anaconda is only my IWB carry. Less of an issue for me having the larger blade there.

reminds me of the mic holster for pistols. For me it feels less consistent bc it can move, its harder to index it in the same spot perfectly every day, and the holster may or may not come out. Also there's less retention, not as secure. Putting it on would take more time too. Not for me.
@HardOnGearChannel
@HardOnGearChannel 10 месяцев назад
I rocked it for 6+ months and I definitely got used to it and found it pretty convenient, but there definitely validity in everything you’re saying. For the last 1.5-2 years I’ve gone back to consistently wearing it with an Ulticlip Slim, handle up, reverse grip, on my dominant side. The consistency and reliability is significantly better and I don’t think I’ll ever change it again.
@CuatroLolo
@CuatroLolo 10 месяцев назад
Bro that's sweet! I really like the Toor choice btw. Ulticlip hasn't gotten my money yet since I live in cold weather area so I end up always wearing a belt with a kydex belt loop knife. Non dominant 3 o clock (im lefty and AIWB). For edc I carry a cheap karambit, I really need to find a good one that suits my needs. In the assaults attempted on me in Chicago, personal experience tells the hawkbill seems to suit my needs better. On the plate carrier I got a Williams osoraku zukuri mini kaiken and that 's my favorite blade right now.@@HardOnGearChannel

@@CuatroLolo Sick! You should look at the Clinch Pick and consider giving Craig Douglas’s concept videos and training videos a look. In case you’re unfamiliar, he’s broadly considered by other trainers to have some of the very best CQC style weapons courses in the world. The Clinch Pick is on the small side (for a reason) but one of his knife designs might fit the bill for your urban defence needs.

@@CuatroLolo Here’s a good one Craig filmed with WPS to give you an idea of what I’m talking about: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AwNFvOaqh94.htmlsi=Qdc3gSptwcTzn855

We're in the same world haha I've seen this before! The clinch pick is definitely well thought on but I'm not them. I prefer reverse grip because I know little to nothing about knife fighting but I've been a long time muay Thai practitioner so I think I could implement some existing skills easier. Also I like blades that have a full size grip and a smaller blade, such as the Williams I have, I only spent that much because it was one of the very few ones that fit my criteria. Id rather have a big handle and small blade than vice versa. It's easier to grab quickly, Harder to lose control of, and inspires confidence. Good suggestion nonetheless, subbed by the way.@@HardOnGearChannel
