Talk’s Mike Graham and founder of FairFuelUK Howard Cox furiously blast cyclists.
It comes after a speeding cyclist, who knocked down and killed a pensioner, avoided prosecution because speed limits do not apply to bicycles, a court head.
Brian Fitzgerald was doing timed laps of Regent’s Park in London with a group when he collided with Hilda Griffiths, 81, while she was crossing the road.
An investigation by the Daily Mail recorded some cyclists breaking the park’s speed limit by more than 40 per cent.
Howard says cyclists “feel they are untouchable” and should be “identifiable, registered and insured”.

The plan all along, as for all old railway trails around the world, was to convert it to a shared use path. Initially the tunnels were not ready as needed lots of work. So some able walkers could deviated by climbing around them. But in time, as per the plan as part of the restoration, the tunnels were open and people were free to use wheelchairs and cycle as well. Considering how dangerous the nearby roads are for cyclists (many deaths) - this was a good things. As I say - all such old rail paths are nearly always converted into shared paths around the world.

@@keithjenkins7919 Some do go too fast and give no friendly shout or bell as I do when cycling there. Especially with illegal E-bikes now there needs to be a speed limit with a fine. And the odd cop enforcing it. E-bikes are dangerous. For the usual casual cyclist - they go at 10mph and slow for peds and ring bells. No warning at 20mph plus is not on. I have had some EVs speed by me at 30mph, very scary. It does help the casual cyclist and families to cycle there and enjoy it. All such old rail tracks around the world become shared paths. It also saves cyclist's lives are they are the ones at real risk - as it diverts them away from dangerous often impatient traffic close passing. Magnitudes more people get seriously injured or die that way. If you cycled a decent amount you would appreciate that real danger to life that exists. I do not doubt you cycle now and again.

Most of the cyclists I've encountered want other road users to abide by the rules yet fail to do so themselves. I was going downhill on a main road, a cyclist was coming up to the junction to my left and obviously didn't want to take his feet off the pedals so he barely stopped. I carried on down hill going at the speed limit and he caught up and was lingering on my n/side rear wheel. I was trying to keep my attention on the road and also watch what dangerous stunt he might pull. We came to some traffic lights on red......he went past 2 lines of cars at the junction and proceeded through the lights on red. No wonder cyclists get a bad name...

On Saturday morning I was out my 10 yrs old husky who is terrified of cyclists, electric scooters and for good reason when she was a puppy she was rammed into by a Lycra wearing lunatic, thankfully she wasn't badly hurt as I managed to pull her out of the way, but Saturday just gone we were out for our usual walk , literally my heart nearly stopped when about 50 lycra wearing lunatics came racing up the path that we share 😳 so I moved over to the bus lane as I knew my dog would go nuts ,they kept coming there must have been about over a hundred of them, what I forgot to mention is that I have a problem with my knee,so I walk with one crutch ,so we carried on our walk always being vigilant but my worst fear came true, as I looked down the bus lane there were about another 100 or more lycra wearing lunatics charging towards us at speed,I pulled my girl Luna close to me as they rode past at speed, they could see my dog and myself were in a dangerous situation as I was trying to keep my dog safe whilst trying to not fall over 😞 sadly most of them thought it's hilarious one of them told me to get out of the way you tucking cripple 😞 this went on for what seemed like an eternity. The colour of their jerseys was orange and blue it happened in Swansea in the morning, I managed to get on the grass verge and got home, but myself and my dog Luna were traumatised by this, they didn't care about me my dog,my situation or the other dog walkers . I must explain why I choose to walk on the bus lane it's a quiet route where the park and ride buses drive up, I trust them more than I do any cyclist and to say that is something. They get away literally with murder and they have ,the old lady ,a married woman, many injured, they know damn well what they are doing but they are the first to moan when someone puts their life in danger, I can honestly say I hate cyclists and there should be a law that if they kill or injure someone or a pet they should be punished to suit the crime

Cycling is a legal method of travel. All E scooters other than those provided by the local council are illegal. Unrestricted E bikes are also illegal. The police first need to eradicate illegal transportation modes but there are too many issues. The confiscation, storage and disposal of these perambulations would be a logistical nightmare. Cyclists will remain a law unto theirselves. Get used to it. We are here to stay and I will continue to ride my bike like I’d only just stolen it. I live in Norwich and I walk everywhere. When I'm on the pavement these cyclists think they own the pedestrian pavement as well. They ring that bell behind me but I refuse to move so I have to move around me and they complain. I tell them they do not own the pavement and they don't like it. They get well and truly punished and disciplined by me. I give them short shrift. I tell them that they do not own the pavement of which I'm walking and I don't have the right to expect me to move. And this is a pedestrian walking in me. Pure.

As a cyclist i can say the most dangerous people on the road are cyclists, as they have no comprehension of road safety or laws. I stopped riding after someone ploughed into me from the side knocking me into a car. Now i walk, and nearly every day I'm nearly missed by an electric bike delivering food for just eat or uber or deliveroo. Nobody can stop them, nobody feels the need to regulate, train or supervise them. Danger to cars, danger to pedestrians and danger to themselves but it is woke, so there's nothing one can do, other than grumble and take the blame. You'll never stop it, it'll only get worse as more cars come off the road. I have one question: who is paying for damages if nobody is insured? Like the car I crashed into after being t-boned, it must have caused £600 in damage and nobody was accountable...can you imagine if the driver was injured badly and could no longer work?

They were however travelling at 29mph in a 20mph zone and the fact that only motorised vehicles are required by law, to comply with speed limits has been picked up by the media. Although I'm a keen cyclist, I think now that 20mph speed limits are becoming the norm in urban areas, cyclists probably should be required by law to comply with them. @southwirralcyclist1986 9 дней назад
@@steveo4991 There are various categories of cyclist. Cyclists that ride in regular clothes and use their bikes simply as a mode of transport are very unlikely to break even a 20mph speed limit. Keen leisure and sports cyclists, who usually wear lycra, do cycle more quickly, but in most cases they are interested in how quickly they're travelling and hence do have speedometers. I agree that if you are a faster cyclist and don't have a speedometer, it will be difficult to judge whether you're breaking a 20mph limit. Just because the law doesn't require cyclists to have speedometers, dosn't mean that you can't require them to comply with speed limits though. A cyclist as to judge whether they are likely to break a 20mph speed limit and then either make sure they cycle more slowly in those areas or they buy a speedometer so that they can judge their speed more accurately. There are also apps you can use on a mobile phone, using gps, to provide your speed. There are similar laws which you have to comply with, but aren't legally required to have the measurement equipment to establish whether you are breaking that law. For example, it's illegal to drive an overloaded car e.g. If the load on the tyres exceeds their rating. You don't however have to possess any means of weighing what you put into your car.

Red herring alert. The 20 mph speed limit on cars (down from 30 or higher) was introduced is because scientific research demonstrated that the damage a car can do to anything it hits increases almost exponentially the faster it travels. An impact at 20 mph is MUCH less violent and/or likely to cause a fatality than an impact at 30 mph. Etc. Bicycles don't impact other road users with anything close the force of a car, van or bus. In any case, cyclist/pedestrian incidents are fairly rare. Look at the stats for pedestrians injured by cyclists. They are almost non-existant compared to the number of people injured by cars. Or the number of cyclists injured or killed by cars. Or compare this manufactured epidemic to the real epidemic of distracted driving by people playing with their phones? It may be worse than drink driving, which has cost the country untold millions to get under control.
