I swear, watching the Sanderstead bowling attack reminds me of watching the NZ One Day bowling attack of the 90s (Chris Harris, Gavin Larsen, Craig McMIllan, Nathan Astle etc)
A lovely video, as ever. Thank you for all your hard work - these really are a treat. Just a side note, thought it was a bit sad to see the appeal for the catch that didn't carry. Your instant reaction was that it hadn't, the body language of other people said the same, and the fielder jumping up and putting his finger up felt like a man trying protesting just a bit too much. Didn't feel in the spirit of the game.
Very good analysis at the end from the (Cornish Plymouth Argyl) Kohli. Sums up whats best after a super game. Good to see Matt Harris opening the bowling. Seems to be the trend these days opening with pace and spin. I also follow Sawston and Babraham on saturdays. Very high standard the EAPL. They managed also to hold out at the end against their oppo after batting second against a huge total of over 300. Heres my point. They put 10 players around the bat for at least the last 10 overs. Reckon if Sanderstead had done the same, they might have won. Sawston bat down to at least no. 10 and held out for the draw and remain top. But seeing 10 players around you is certainly scary. Thanks as always Dan
Great game! I thought the tail for Old Whits batted pretty well to hold you guys out. Another day, it could have been a different story. Keep up the form going into the back end of the season.
I think Whits were far better at setting their field. Check out the number of nice shots only for a single instead of four. Lovely evening for a beer . Well played Sanderstead
Not sure I really see the value of this format. Knowing when to declare is a fun tactical challenge, but it does seem like a bit of a block fest. Very low run rates on what was a good pitch.
It was very dry and not as quick/bouncy as usual. In hindsight a declaration at 50 overs would have led to a better result - but tough to make that call with only 3 frontline regular bowlers
@@SandersteadCCTV seems like a hard decision to make. I don’t think you guys made a bad decision, if you aren’t past 200 it would feel wrong in my mind to declare. Perhaps should of had a more attacking field at the end though like you said.
Not at all! It actually means a closer game. If you have a team who is much stronger, they can bat, retire early and have more time for the weaker side to get to the total. Or get them out and get to the bar quickly.
The two batsman that got run out there's no communication between the batsman that's why happened one batsman runs doesn't even say anything to the other one you need to communicate as batsman so the sort of thing doesn't happen
Had a very village game against WEllow in Notts on Sunday. 8 v 9. Ended up being a 20 20 in the most bucolic setting surrounded by sheep who got peppered with 6s. We had three wicket keepers, all of whom bowled, while me as skipper as a normal front line seamer on Sundays didn't bowl and decided to open the batting instead. Couldn't find my cap, batted in straw panama instead. Got 29 in a first wicket stand of 85, my highest ever score. Admittedly against a bowling attack of one very good quick and 6 sub-Dels
Yup a pint of PILGRIM. what a great game. Proves that you can get an exciting game what ever way it’s played. ( limited overs or a declaration). Some great all around performances, batting, bowling and behind the stumps. ( AND WHY NOT) Thanks Dan . Hope Lucy? Has a fun safe holiday! Daughters !! 😂🤣
Matt’s word last week was ‘Depleted’ wasn’t it Dan??….so ‘Rejuvenated’ this week works! Although I do watch these in Radom order so I could have that wrong. Another great vid! Thank you.
Good bowling Matt and Sandeep. Who is Jack, first game? This fantasy league is tricky with so many players not playing weekly. I've lost far too many points on transfers!
Thought bowling was looking a bit thin early in the season,Sandeep has really stepped a very very handy cricketer.Looks like a guy you would love to have on your team always giving 100%.
Funny that you complimented the umpires at the end because I was just getting ready to write the same. No two matches are ever the same involving the 1st XI which means we are compelled to watch to the end.
Well fought winning draw for the Lads. Sandeep looked absolutely buggered at the end!...got to love some of the team names you play etc Old Whitgiftians.Very olde worlde!!!!
@@SandersteadCCTV up here, especially on Sundays, we have fantastically named teams. Bengal United, Young Lions, Nottingham Tigers, Pakistan (!!!), Pakistan Badshahs, Rainbows, Cheers Cricket Nottingham...
The gap is there to incentive people to go for the win - however, not enough captains have the necessary risk/reward balance and many play too defensively.
@@SandersteadCCTV Yeah, we found that with the Kent league years ago; it transpired that you could cost a team more points if you took the losing draw than the points you would be giving up. Madness,
Yes, these games are tough. In hindsight an earlier declaration would have made sense, but we’re missing a few players so glad to walk away with 10 points
All sorts of baffling things for me in this from the oppo.If u win the toss and want to chase then chase! To not really even go for the winning draw target all a bit baffling. Also I’m not sure having people on the cover boundary so early in ur innings either is that great. If a few of those 1’s go for 4 you get to 200 far quicker Probably declare on 50 overs and then they have more time to get the runs. In any event a cracking video Dan as always. Keep up the good work.
Dan always enjoy watching SCC games and vlogs. Carrying from your chat with T about where you'd like to play cricket, have you read "Batting on the Bosphorus" by Angus Bell. It's an amusing tale all cricketers can relate to. Give it whirl...
I knew and worked a bit with Harry Thomson, the author of Penguins Stopped Play. He was a TV producer - main man behind Have I Got News For You among many others. He sadly died of cancer in 2005 - I like to think he would have loved this channel!
@@SandersteadCCTV Yes, I remember the last chapter being terribly sad as he played his last innings in great pain to give his side the chance of a win. He would have loved watchign Sanderstead TV, I'm sure - he played in just the same spirit.
Well played guys ... it is a shame that you struggle to have your best X1 on the park every week ( no Josh Stacey or Tom Coulson today it seemed ) as always well filmed by Dan and a special visit from the Cornish Kohli always has me smiling with his wit...out played the rivals and came away with a winning draw... not a bad day
Yes agreed. Well umpired! And I do hate it when a batsman taps his bat (13:08) when the ball thuds into his pads. Poor form IMO, even if there was a slight edge. Once again, well umpired!
We bat very deep. I think the main reason is that Simon will always be needed to bowl his maximum overs (either 10 or 14 depending on format) and he’s struggle to do that if he’d batted, say, a long innings at 4 beforehand.
When I saw “The Battle of Croydon” I was expecting axe throwers, kebab chuckers and all sorts of flying objects. Were you ever a captain Mr.Allen? as I like and share your views...chuck in a few moonballs and half volleys test their will
I dabbled in captaincy over the years. But mainly, as an off-spin bowler from the era when there was no limit on overs that anyone could bowl I would bowl long spells (sometimes 20+ overs) whilst bowling second. I developed the various methods of “winkling out” the stubborn batsmen. It’s about using imagination and sometimes risking losing in order to win.
@@SandersteadCCTV couldn't agree more about risking losing, I discovered the art of "winkling" by mistake when I brought someone on so bowlers could change ends and the non bowler took 3 in that over
